Not alot to say really. Retail players are practically playing on demo servers now most of the time. The ladders for this game are horrible in relation to both activity and teams overall. Chock it up to really bad marketing, but I believe this game proves that word of mouth doesen't make a game succeed on its own. Fun game, innovative concept, lack of players has already killed this game and it isn't coming back.
We commonly have 64/64 players on the squadgames.com retail server. It isn't dead by any stretch of the imagination. Once 1.03 patch comes out with new units, optimized netcode, and more bug fixes things will be on track for future free Savage development by the providers. I routinely see a lot of other retail servers full like TWLHosting.com with positive feedback from the community on s2games.com forums. This game is just so huge and overwhelming from a competive play standpoint that some people just give up trying anything other then pub play. Give it some time with 1.03 things will be good.
I think the only problem this game has is that they made the demo too good. Most people I know who hang out on the demo servers agree that its a good game, but aren't addicted enough to go out and buy it. I say just give it a few months. By then, the addiction ought to have set in, and more will have migrated to retail. Most guys I know who were pretty good on the demo version have eventually gotten retail, which will hopefully become a trend.
Timmay I have no idea what your talking about. There are no missing features and there are a few minor bugs that can be anooying but nothing big, maybe you could elaborate? "[20:06] s2slothy: I forgot to eat today
[20:06] s2slothy: that sucks
[20:06] QA|Dorsk: At all slothy?
[20:07] s2slothy: yeah, and I never got around to eating dinner last night"

well for example the ai is nonexistant (peon ai). game browser filters dont really work. and the next patch sounds like an alpha patch. ie: adding missing animations, models, etc. in other words the game isnt really finished.
"adding missing animations, models, etc. in other words the game isnt really finished."
You will have to site some sources becuase what I have been told by those playing doesnt line up with that. The Peon AI is kinda messed but it still works, this game wasnt based around computer opponents so thats understandable in my opinion though. THe browsers work fine in my experience, I dunno though. Very much unlike most alphas I have played but whatever : )
from my experience the AI only messes up on certain servers, in which case it kills the game at that point...the peons mine a little bit then sit on their bums, if next patch fixes that, then everything else in patch is a bonus, b/c from what i've seen everything else is already in the game...and yes, they had horrible PR, i only knew this game existed b/c a guildmate of mine brought it up

this crap ends maps. rather frustrating. ditto on the pr, someone asked me to play the demo.
I downloaded the demo for this game yesturday and my only question is: Are they going to fix the lag....because i am having to shoot well ahead of a person to hit him....if this next patch fixes that then i will definately buy the game because then that it is fun

As for missing animations - They are going to change some things and have decided to add some animations and graphics in the next patch. Hell this game is more ready than T2 was when shipped. The Immo and one other item will change as well.
The issue with Peons/workers not mining right is a pathing problem actually and only experienced on Demo server. I have not seen this on any of the Full Product servers.

it happens far more often than you'd think especially when you keep your buildings close together.
and t2 was feature complete when it was released unlike savage... it was just bugy as hell.

in this game u have to lead them...takes time for the bullets or whatever ur shooting to reach them...unless its like tempest or the coil gun you are firing
I played the demo and decided to buy the retail. I'm sorry I did because there is a game imbalance on public servers. It seemed like Beasts always win, so I decided to keep track of 22 games. Beasts 20, Humans 2. I like playing on the demo servers, because you know the only imbalance is the commander or the players...not the game. Very few people agree that there is an imbalance.
Another issue I've had, is that the game looks like it's running just fine at 800X600 High res, or 1024X768 High res. I get my ass kicked in battle. When I drop it down to 640X480 low res, I kick ass. I'm running a pretty nice system and it's not my ping...it's how the game renders the graphics. I can play Unreal Tourney, Tribes 2, Battlefield 1942 at high resolutions and have no problems in battle.
One issue that drives me nuts, is when I'm typing a message and the screen changes. I'm no longer able to access my message and have to re-type it.
The workers on some servers work great! It's not every server.
Why do I keep playing the demo? The game is fun when it's balanced. You really need to learn how to command, in order to appreciate the commanders role. My favorite game of all-time was Allegiance - another RTSS by Microsoft. It died because it was a Microsoft product = buggy, and the subscription servers didn't offer enough feature to make it worth the $10/month. The game play and teamwork were the best. Graphics weren't that great, but it really didn't matter that much.
One feature that Allegiance had was 'autopilot'. It allowed the players the opportunity to communicate with each other on a game plan. You would autopilot in 3rd person until a battle was close at hand, and then jump into 1st person to fight the battle.
Savage focuses more on 'cooperation', and less on 'strategy'. You need to help build, and kill NPC's in order to be a productive team - but as an individual. In Allegiance you had to protect and heal, which focused on team productivity and helping each other out.
I really want to see the RTSS games make it big in the industry. I'm looking forward to the patch!
