What the hell is wrong with the education system? This is about the 100th time this year something utterly retarded like this has happened.

Great message we are teaching our kids...arbitrary rules that directly injure their education are more important than common sense.

Quoth the Bunny: "Forum Whore".

after i got my wisdom teeth pulled the nurse let me keep my vicodin... 6 before lunch makes for a fun studyhall
I heard about some kid who was eating out of a bag of potatoe chips pulled out a chip that he thought kinda resembled a gun and he held the chip up in the air and shouted "bang bang" and got expelled.

elementary level too if I recall correctly.

It truly is sad, these people in their tighty-whitey's can't even think straight to use common sense in dealing with problems in the schools. I'm more inclined to say they ARE the problem in our schools Get rid of the adults who obviously can't think with common sense.

Seriously, Dont fucking school districts COMPREHEND how much an expullsion fucks up a kids life? No, it isnt just a year long suspension, colleges wont accept you, you lose an entire year of schooling, meaning you are a year behind everyone else, shoved back into school into to an entirely different class, too. Schools who expel their students need to realize the damage it does. And not just expel kids freely, without just cause and reason.
a kid at my school got expelled for threatening to kill my friend after he squirted water at him.

I got exspelled when I was 16 for haven a BC powder in my book bag.

I went and took my GED 2 weeks later, scored a 520, and went right to work in the construciont field. After 7 years, I am going to take my SAT and going to go to college for Computer sceince. I alreadyhave my MCP, CCNA, CNA and CompTIA Linux+.

bottom line is though, this is what happened to me, my 3.5 GPA, no matter how many advanced class's I was in, it didn't matter.

When i was in highschool this girl in another school in my district was expelled for having midol in her backpack. They searched her and found a bottle of midol and tampons or pads or something. So they expelled her. How f-ed up huh? What she supposed to do? just deal with the pain? or what? Shit like that pisses me off to no extent! And if that were my daughter i would sue the living dog$h!t out of the school district!
OMFG,,I cant believe they didnt sue.
Expulsion isn't the end of the world. I was expelled from HS. Twice. I worked for about two years, took some 'Continuing Education' classes at a local University, and then transferred to a state university out west.

I was luckier than most in that I was able to be tutored and get a diploma from my school, and I also had good SAT's...but the point is, expulsion isn't the end of the world.

Of course, I got expelled for hitting someone with a nasty weapon. Not advil. The world is fucked sometimes.
These are the times we live in folks. Kids are treated as adults and subjected to "zero tolerence" rules. I guess people forgot part of being young is making mistakes, now we have rules that say they aren't allowed to screw up.

This isn't PC. This is 'zero tolerence' policy taken too far. The nation has been on a tough on crime trp and they have taken it too far.

PC is attributed to the left, this certainly isn't coming from anywhere near the center or left.

There are a lot of variables responsible for this Gestapo type attitude in schools lately. I agree with you that it is completely and utterly over the top lately. Lawyers are largely responsible for this as well as zealot minded school boards and over anxious parents.

It seems that the priorities of this nation are flipped around and totally distorted. This is very evident when marijuana smokers/sellers get more jail time than a person who molests and rapes children.

Either my viewpoint of reality is distorted, or there is something seriously wrong with our judicial system.

I think a good portion of this crap is the summation of too many activist groups, be it parents, cops, lawyers, or other, breathing down the local super intendments and school boards necks.

Schools are so scared of being sued, or boycotted against, that they will do anything in order to avoid blame. Even if this mean the occasional sacrificial escape goat, or through holding their own renditions of the Salem witch trials, it appers that there is little they wont do in order to promote the idea that they are doing everything in their power to solve the schools problems (when in reality they are doing everything but that). Ironically, this idiotic process has done nothing but destroy our school system and childrens lives.

thats really messed up

back home - whether someone plays a prank on the kid or someone hits him/her upside the head or beats beats the crap out of him/her up - he/she replies in kind plus some.
It's never been an issue our "teachers" had to deal with - unless they witnessed them. (tis public school exp - its like this in every nation i guess)

Getting expelled for fuckin advil or midol - is just plain insane. I've known a few that go to school stoned/eX'd up/on acid... but alas - they can go ahead and go to their schools - do their thing - most they get is a slap on their wrist?

That's just wrong.

Actually the point is that they aren't treating them like adults. They expect these kids to act like adults when they leave HS but the whole time they treat them like babies who must be sheltered from the dangerous world of things like Aspirin(which we all know is a highly dangerous substance that makes Heroin look like a lollipop).

WHAT?

How is having Advil, a LEGAL PRODUCT, which anyone can buy in any store for like 5.99, an expellable offense?

I can understand expelling someone for like having a gun or something, but this is redulous, there was no illegal activity. That school needs to be sued.

No kidding. Advil will get you expelled. Not showing up for class, not doing your homework and generally being a crappy student will get you just enough of a passing grade to keep going because they don't want to make you feel bad about yourself.

WEll I agree he should have been expelled for that. Threatening someones life is clearly grounds to get expelled

not to mention giving every other kid a 'cushion' by telling them they have ADD so they can say "it's ok little johnny, if you fail it's because you have ADD"

I remember I was told that I have/had ADD, I just kind of laughed it off as I blew through Middle School and High School.

Have you forgotten what being a child is? Kids say dumb things, do dumb thnings, and even think dumb things. Why? BECAUSE THEY ARE KIDS. You can't have life destroying ultra rigid policy when dealing with children.

Come on...Do you forget we were all kids. And I surely didnt threaten someones life. Kids grow up much faster in todays world. And you cannot afford to let threats slide and very bad behavior. It only takes one kids to shoot down students or rape or kill. Sad as it is, its our reality. Our culture and music have created a monster IMO....

Destino I would agree with your opinion in the 50s when you didn't have so many middle/high schoolers coming to school with weapons.

I believe that a lot of our problem spawn from the schools but the problem with schools accountablity lies within the parents/government control. If parents gave a damn they would do one of two things. Home school their children or hold the schools to a HIGH standard. Also if schools were allowed to be run by local government (like I believe they should) then the parents would have more of a voice.

Actually Darkwhyte many kids during the 50's did in fact go to school armed with knives. Albeit mostly pen knives or swiss army, but nonetheless knives which would get a kid suspended/expelled nowadays. And as far as the kid getting expelled for threatening isn't that a wonderful lesson to teach? A bully can pick on a kid all he wants and when the kid tells him to stop or else he gets expelled. You've just offered the bully positive reinforcement and he will continue harassing his classmates freely because he knows that as long as he's sneaky he can get away with whatever he wants too. And voila you've created another fucktard like Ken Lay who will go through life taking advantage of anybody he can because he's been taugh that he can get away with it. Now if that asshole with the watergun had been convinced that the kid would have slit his fucking throat if he didn't stop then maybe he would have been a little more wary to pick on people in the future.

I have said many times to my friends. "I'm gonna kill you for that man!" Did that mean I was actually going to kill him? No. It was a figure of speach, that would get me expelled now.

What about the kid who's now being charged by the Homeland Security jack-asses with making a bomb threat? He put a note in his checked baggage that said (and I'm paraphrasing), "Stay the f*ck out of my luggage. It's my property and I don't want you in it. Even if I had a bomb, do you think I'd be stupid enough to put it in here, dumbass?"

He could spend up to 8 years in jail.

Well that's a bit different. By putting that letter in there he wanted to start something or get a reaction. Well he certainly did. Using the word 'bomb' when dealing with the airport is pure stupidity. In this school's case, if the kid was warned that they should not be bringing asprin to school that's punishable. Expelling her for a year, though, is senseless. With this dumbass you are talking about, we have all been warned about stupid shit like that and he did it anyway. He should be punished, 8 years is a bit rough though.
Do kids jump off of high office story buildings? And would it be funny if a kid was at the top of a building screwing around and saying he was going to do it?

Do kids shoot others with guns? And is it funny when kids joke around about it?

Times change people. Over half of all violent crimes are committed by 20 under kids. So if they can't learn to not do that, then they pay the price. Seems parents need to learn how to parent and teach their children to make smart choices.

Their are obviously times when people kid around. But since gangsta Rap, Violence, and other media outlets glorify killing and violence, we need to reflect and see that some of these very problems started there.
Glorifying violence is not the problem, sort of. Parenting is the main problem. A child growing up in front of the TV is the problem. A child being fed by TV dinners and the microwave is the problem. A child not getting punished in the proper manner is the problem. LACK of parenting is the key to this messy room we have created.

Simple as that.

Education of subjects rather than banning is the key to fix some of our problems. For instance, we should not tell our children to stay away from guns we should in-turn educate children about the weapons and what they are capable of. When concerning drug use, instead of JUST telling them to say 'no' educate them on the effects. I'm not talking about school funded education on drugs because that's a joke. It's a parenting duty to do these things not the school's duty. Show the child what can happen if they go down the path of drugs/violence. Then ask them 'why would you not choose to go down that path johnny?' If the child can re-articulate back to you the ideas you just told them in their own words and convince you not go down the path of drugs/violence then you know they have a full understanding. I am 100% positive that our problems in America derive from our homes. What happened to stay at home Mother's? Why has our society told women that they are not equal to men if they do not get a corporate career? What happened to men praising women for their work at home? What happened to enforcing good morals in our children? What happened to family dinners where parents took an active role in their children’s life? It's sad. But it will continue to be sad if we follow this path of children growing up without education. (And I don't mean grade/middle/high school or college)

AMEN! A parent isn't supposed to be a best friend or buddy or pal or anything. A parent is supposed to be a parent. A parent is there to keep you humble when you get too full of yourself and put you on top of the world when it seems to be crumbling. A parent is supposed to be your harshest critic and your top supporter. Most importantly, though, a parent needs to be there, period. They may not be happy with what you do or the effort you put out, but a kid needs to know that a parent cares and does what they do because they care.

Part of the problem we have is this HO and Ganster mentality. I know several guys who think of women as HO's and such and they don't respect them even though they have children with them. That is sickening! We have so many kids in this country that don't have both parents in their lives. Parents need to be responsible and they need to make sure they are available for their kids.
Why is it that kids are treated more severely then adults. If I joke around at work "I'm going to kill you if you lay a hand on my printer!" people laugh it off, yet some people do show up at work with guns and kill everyone.

In school kids do the same thing and the adults running the show do their best to destroy that childs life. That's crap, it's a different world today because over sensative and irresponsible adults make it so. Knee jerk politicians and hatefilled 'tough on crime' nut jobs are destoying the life of children everywhere. The concept of charging kids as adults was the first mistake and now we are paying for it.

100% disagree as usual. We need to charge more kids as adults for one. Kids at 14 are 10x smarter than we were when I was that age. If a child murders over the age of 14 IMO then should be eligible for the death penalty. We have been too lenient on kids for too long is the problem Destino. Kids from my generation go whipped, smacked and bitch slapped when we were bad and we are the ones who see how bad the kids are today. We understood the consequences for our actions. Todays kids respect no-one because lawyers and lawsuits.
zero tolerance for mistake making kids, however it's 3 strikes you're out in real life. somethings out of balance. getting expelled over aspirin is absolutely ridiculous.

The concept of zero tolerance is great. But they need to make sure they use common sense when exercising it. I agree the aspirin thing is bullshit. But I 100% agree with Zero tolerance as a concept.
I agree with you snake. Minors should be treated no softer then an adult. If a grown man kills someone and a 11 year old kills someone in the end that's two dead people.

just a semantical clarification for Snakey. kids today are 10x more EDUCATED than we were not smarter. They are just as smart it's just that we're tryinmg to cram 10x as much crap into their heads now. And YES that is also part of why kids today are different than we were. I remember in 4th grade getting home , maybe doing a couple math or english problems (usually fun type stuff) and then going out and playing etc. My niece that's in 4th grade gets at least three real homework assignments a night and a lot of times barely finishes them before dinner. sooner or later these kids are getting burnt out and for some of them it is too much. Now that's not to say that we should lower our educational standards but more to the point of restructuring them so that we can accomplish learning and a decent childhood at the same time. Do we really have to sacrifice one for the other?

i love the concept too, but there needs to be clauses and exceptions for cases like the aspirin or midol in backpack. wish there was a quick fix.
