When I was in college, my professor was an advisor during the Reagan era on our borders and immigration..He was a staunch supporter of putting several military bases on the border which would also serve a duel role...The troops could train in desert, and other environments..And they could help secure the borders from all these immigrants comming here..

I saw 2 great shows on how the illegal immigrants are destroying our country..
1..They do not pay taxes for social services,etc..that means we are paying for their schooling, education, healthcare..
2..They tax the education community, which has standards now...When a typical child cannot read and write at that age, level, the schools are required to provide special education teachers and programs to accomidate them..This costs a ton of money to do.
3..Increased burden on the police...While immigrants are generally good people..Their children have problems fitting in and in a lot of cases clash with the law...This is an increase on our police force...Also, the # of uninsured car crashes from them has increased dramatically, thus putting more of a cost on our own insurance
4..People will say the mexicans and others while they dont pay taxes, they spend money..That is partly right and mostly wrong..They send a good chunch back to their own countries..So the money is spent there...Remember, education, healthcare, police, etc are paid for by TAXES..
5..These people need to learn our langauge..This isnt mexico or latin america..If they are gonna live here, they at least need to learn our language...
6..Jobs..While some ignorant folk will say they take the jobs that no-one wants..Thats a bullshit statement..We as a country need to get rid of this GET RICH now attitude..WE teach our own children not to take these jobs and they then sit on welfare..We have millions of qualified people that could take these jobs..

This is a major problem and it needs to be resolved...I have no issues with legal immigrants being here..I do however have a huge issue with ILLEGAL mexicans and others being here...

Snake I think your post is a little too one sided but I agree with you that the borders need to be controlled to a far greater extent.

- Mexicans work for damn near nothing in large numbers. Now ask yourselves how many businesses would not be able to make a profit if they had to actually pay a legal min wage?

- Illegal immigrants don't pay taxes? This is what we call a misrepresentation of facts. Someone please tell me how much you must pay in taxes when you make a dollar an hour?

They still pay sales tax, property tax's (thru rent), and every other tax that is not taken out of your check, which they don't make enough to pay for anyway.

its not one sided at all..Its based on facts and statistics...

They take our jobs and they essentially required the US gov't to make the minimal wage out tehre..Otherwise we would be like 3rd world countries and what we pay...And they dont work for 1.00 and hour..they are paid less, but not that level in most cases

2ndly again, they DO NOT PAY TAXES..A sales tax doesnt fund schools, healthcare and police forces...

California is a perfect example...MOre people are fleeing than going there...

You dont pay property taxes when you rent...FYI

Its a huge problem...
http://www.illegalaliens.us/factsandmyths.htm
Let's review a few basics first. Immigrants have enhanced America. Immigrants and illegal aliens are neither inherently good nor inherently bad. Legal immigrants come to America with the explicit approval of Congress and thus all Americans. Illegal aliens come here with an implicit 'blind eye' approval. Thus, illegal immigration problems are due essentially to inaction of Congress, law enforcement, and ultimately American citizens. To fix our dysfunctional immigration system, Americans need to educate and change legal, political, educational, environmental, labor and religious institutions. Over-immigration is not inevitable nor is the doubling of U.S. population this century that it will cause.

Legal immigrants deserve respect. Illegal aliens are law breakers who do not deserve jobs, amnesty, educational subsidies, driver's licenses, and other benefits at the expense of U.S. taxpayers. Illegal aliens first should be encouraged to Go Home voluntarily and then deported as the law requires. Once the public recognizes that jobs and benefits equal encouragement the public will truly press for the flow to cease. Amnesties for illegal aliens have clearly made the problem worse and should be vigorously opposed. See the National Review for an excellent article on amnesties.

Unfortunately many Americans do not honestly debate immigration policy because they are woefully ignorant of the facts, especially on the negative effects of mass migration. There are an estimated 8 to 11 million illegal aliens in the U.S. today. Immigration today is almost quadruple the traditional level. Immigration has accounted for over 70% of U.S. population growth since 1970. See chart. Immigration has contributed significantly to school overcrowding, traffic congestion, the health care crisis, environmental degradation, social tension, and other negative impacts on our country. Yet pro-mass migration forces, including the politically correct media, cheap labor advocates and ethnic pandering politicians, rarely acknowledge the down-side of mass migration. See the internet sites listed in Links for unadulterated information describing negative mass migration impacts because generally the media fails to do so. For example, school overcrowding is usually blamed on "The Baby Boom Echo", but the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) recently released a shocking and enlightening report on the real reason behind school overcrowding. View the report (567 kb PDF file). You will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to read and print this brochure. Consider distributing or presenting the report to your local school board. How often is our health care crisis attibuted to mass migration? Rarely if ever. For more shocking and enlightening information see the article WashingtonTimes. Because the costs of mass migration have long been ignored by the media and politicians a huge dose of honest debate on the negative impacts of mass migration is long overdue.

Myths about immigration abound. Often those favoring immigration reduction are called racist or anti-immigrant but the truth is nearly all immigration reductionists favor immigration and immigrants, but at a drastically reduced level. Americans need to stand above the name calling and speak the truth. For example, is America being true to its values by creating and exploiting the illegal alien underclass at the expense of our own working poor? Is America helping other countries raise their quality of life by recruiting their high-tech workers, doctors and nurses? Is America really addressing national security by promoting a virtually open border?

For a list of arguments dispelling popular immigration myths, see ProjectUSA.

History has shown that illegal immigration is highly correlated to legal immigration. In other words, reduction of illegal immigration will only occur when legal immigration levels are reduced. To learn more on the correlation, see this report from Center for Immigration Studies. For additional reasonable and achievable actions to reduce illegal immigration see http://www.NumbersUSA.com.

I don't agree. These people do not make enough money to pay income tax, PERIOD. This is not debatable it's the truth. If they did pay taxes their employers would be locked up for breaking the law by not paying them the legal amount and not respecting overtime and the like.

Also illegals do pay property taxes on their cars and their houses buy paying rent that is higher then the mortgage which is then used to pay the taxes.

Sorry Destino..You are wrong and not aware of taxes...You dont pay property tax on a car...You also do not pay property tax or any tax when you rent...

Sales taxes are much different...You might want to contact your local IRS office to get a better understanding

Connecticut collects property taxes on your car and your rent funds the property taxes paid by the land owner so you're wrong on both accounts.

As for sales taxes not paying for schools, thats just dumb. Even in the event that sales tax dollars arent fed directly into the schools, they cover other funds that would otherwise take away from the source of the school dollars.

Where are you Snake because in VA we do pay property taxes. Also rent profit is used to pay for a properties taxes. That's how my family does it, you charge rent + X, then you use the profit to line your pockets and pay for any expenses of the property including taxes.

?? If you rent, you do not pay property taxes... What the owner does with your rent payments could pay that, or it could pay his crack habit Bottom line as a renter, you will not receive a bill from the city for property/welcome/land taxes on top of you rent payments.

What he does with it is irrelevent. Bottom line is that you provide him with the capital that covers the cost of the taxes. This is one of many reasons it is better to buy then rent in the long run. All the expenses you think you are getting out of is covered by what you are paying.

The difference is that as a home owner I HAVE to pay taxes..As a renter you do not..Its that simple..There is no argument at all...

Illegal immigrants get pay UNDER minimum wage and do jobs that no american citizens wouldn't even want to touch so i'm not even going to complain that they take jobs from americans. I do support stricter border patrol both north and south of United States. Why? Some raghead terrorists are going to use that as and access and infiltrate our country and kill us. It's not that freaking hard to enter USA from Canada or at least before 9/11

ok whatever.

Now let's get to the good stuff. How do we fix it without going over board and dehumanizing our neighbors to the south AND north (where a smart terrorist would cross). The last thing we want is a palestinian type border where people get killed all the time.

I say we increase the technology we already have in place, if you don't know about it here is a good article.

The sticker on my car says "PROPERTY TAX" on the back of it.
Who cares about a word...

I am talking about a basic tax principle, that you dont understand..

There have been several proposals to implement, or at least study, a statewide motor vehicle tax in Connecticut. Three legislative property tax reform commissions and tax forces made such recommendations between 1988 and 1995. None were enacted. Since 1995, 10 bills have been introduced proposing (1) eliminating the motor vehicle property tax, (2) establishing a statewide tax, or (3) requiring a study of the feasibility of eliminating the tax. None of these bills received a favorable report, though some had public hearings in various legislative committees.

Post edited by ~~Snake~~ at 8/6/2003 1:16:29 PM

the problem with vehicle taxes is its based on a the value of the car...There is huge room for errors and manipulation...

So Polaris and Destino are right there is a tax in 16(only 7 view it the car tax in complete leiu of traditional property taxes based on land value.)states..But its been shown to not work and all of them are under attack..

Also, I still cannot find anywhere a tax included in rent...

Are you a born smartass?

English..Comprende???
First of all, In my area we have a nickname for the town. We call it "Little Mexico". I cant leave for work in the morning without seeing ATLEAST 200 mexicans standing on corners waiting for Landscapers. (I leave at 6 AM, and I only have an 8 minute drive to work).

If they do pay property taxes, per person it is nothing. They wind up living 30-40 people in a single family house. Its getting horrendous. I walk down my block and I hear people speaking spanish more then I do English. I understand that the US is supposed to be a "melting pot" and esp. my home state of New York, but how mixed is it if its 52% Mexican? If they are going to live here they should speak the language that we speak.

They take the jobs nobody wants? Back when I was alittle younger I tried to get a job mowing lawns for my neighbors. Heres the problem. 98% of them had Mexicans mowing their lawns, 1.9% were perfectionists and would only do their own lawns, (with a pair of scissors of course) and the other .1% mowed their own lawn except for spring cleaning. This, however was really spring cleaning, its juts where these people dont mow their lawns for maybe 2 or 3 months, then hire some kid to come and mow it, and then they bitch that its not perfect. (the grass is 4-5 feet high to start off) TEENAGERS WOULD BE HAPPY WITH THESE JOBS!

There were plenty of Mexicans in my school, and I know for a fact that many of them were here illegaly along with their parents. My school had problems with class sizes in the 30s, for Honors and AP courses. The smallest class I was in was italian, because everyone was taking, SPANSIH. Why? Because they already spoke it!

Heres the best one. They are starting up these programs here to try and help the illegals get jobs, and get houses. ITS RUN BY THE GOVERNMENT. If the government knows they are here, then the government should send them back to the country of filthy water. If they want to come in, they should get on a list and wait, just like my ancestors did. I am proud to say, that a long time ago, my Italian ancestors waited, and entered this country LEGALLY.

I have no problem with legal immigrants, because they have to pay taxes just like the rest of us. They have to pay for the benifits they recieved. UNLIKE illegals, from wherever they may be from.

{I am sorry for the length of this post}

You think too much inside the box.

A) Illegal immigrants take jobs away from honest citizens.
B) B/c they don't pay income tax and various other taxes for social security, but use our road systems and other government funded (tax funded) objects that just makes it wrong.
C) We (who pay taxes) must make up for them so our taxes in turn are higher.
D) They aren't making a dollar and hour. Way to throw in some random and totally wrong figure.
E) shall I continue or have I pointed out to everyone just how narrow you think.... every action directly affects the next... think on a larger scale my friend.

No its called taking care of your own countrymen first.
This problem is rampent in Texas and it drives me crazy, if you want to come to the USA and work and be productive thats fine, do it the legal way. These people are a drain on our society just for the fact that they take more out then they contribute in. So who makes up the difference? me and you. i dont have problems of legal immigrants ,its the ones who do it skate the system for their own benefit. military on the border is an excellent idea, especially in the current times. The ideal situation would be that these people stay in their own country and help try and make it prosperous instead of leaching off of ours

I was responding to a comment that said nothing about illegal immigrants.

"avaliable to US citizens for 14 days before immigrants from another country would be eligible."

This *IS* xenophobic.

It's simply putting legal US citizens ahead of illegal immigrants.

And.. if an immigrant from another country would like to come here and be a productive citizen, and get here the legal way or through the amnesty type legislation being voted on by our congress, that is fine by me.

Your post said absolutely nothing about illegal immigrants. Again here are your EXACT words.

"avaliable to US citizens for 14 days before immigrants from another country would be eligible"

BTW - there is no law needed to state illegal immigrants should have to wait to be employed because employing them is...wait for it.....ILLEGAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A - How many honest citizens are lining up to pick strawberries? Not many. And because illegals work for less they create jobs for themselves that would be too costly at legal wages.

B - They barely make any money 90% of the time, if they did pay taxes it would be next to nothing.

C - Keep telling yourself taxes are going up because of illegals and not because of massive increases in goverment spending.

D - they certainly aren't making legal wages or getting health care.

E - Only thing you've pointed out is that you've fallen for the lies blaming all of our problems on illegal aliens.

Just need to point out....

When you work, YOU are not the only one paying taxes, companies pay taxes per the employee also, so usually whatever you pay in taxes, your company/employer is ALSO paying. That would be a little different in some of these cases as some of the work would probably fall under a 1099.

Please don't say IA's don't recieve healthcare...THEY DO. EVERYONE in America receives healthcare. If you, them, they...whoever needs emergency care hospitals cannot turn them away, federal law. Now, perhaps you mean more quality healthcare, more preventative. Im all for it, go to school, study, get a good job with benefits, thats all. Be smart here people. Over zealousy is just as bad as misguided over compassion'ism ( I know thats not a word by the way)

*edit* Also, there is no way to argue the wages that are made, there is no public record. It may serve you all well to be in a position to actually SPEAK with some of these people...because the 'small wages' and 'such little money' they make here, is a very VERY large increase from what they make in their home countries...

*another edit* Point C...a good amount of this large government program spending can be traced to many things that involve problems with illegal aliens. Welfare issues, healthcare, reading programs, public education, etc etc. Id be willing to bet that any list of these 'programs' would be easy to relate in one way or another to illegal alien aid somewhere down the line.

So then crack down on the employers.

Think of it as the war on drugs, you can't catch all the users so you go after the suppliers.

Same with this, stop chasing after Mexicans and increase the penalties to the people that hire them.

ok snake, your a fucking moron.

A car IS considered PROPERTY, its called a dictionary. You might be confused over the term EXCISE TAX (its property tax on a car purchase) there is NO STATE IN THE UNION that doesnt have a tax on cars..... in some cases it is extremely outragious.

also, i luv how you blindly mix IRS taxes (federal) with state (local).

I am self employed. I am VERY well versed in taxes because literally %40-%42 of all my money goes to taxes at either the state or federal level..... then i get to pay %8.5 sales tax on anything i buy. And lets not forget, in my case, i have to pay %3 more than someone that makes the same amount of money because i am self employ. Really fun when i pay for health insurance out of pocket (453 a month) and i here someone crying over their group rate going up to 125.

Typically, tax on gas is used for roads and schools on a state level, killing your they drive cars but dont pay taxes theory. Taxes on groceries, schools and civic needs on a local level, they fucking eat they pay a share, do some research. ALL of it goes into 1 big pool, and is redistributed according to state budgets, but the above it VERY typical.

Rent is not paying property tax. NO you dont get a receit or bill for it, yes, as a renter you ARE PAYING IT. NO ONE ON THE FUCKING PLANET IS DUMB ENOUGH TO RENT AND NOT INCLUDE THE TAXES IN THE RENT PRICE. period. "here, let me rent you this house for 300 a month, and buy they way, ill pay the 800 in property taxes and lose money as long as you live here" dream on.

next part...... you pick lettuce? We consume lettuce with almost every meal. A head of lettuce is .69 here. You think anyone other than an illegal is going to pick that for $2 and hour? Yes, the welfare bums need to get off their asses and do it, hey its a job that is needed. Problem with welfare, you are ACTUALLY PENALISED for having a job! You make 1200 a month on welfare, you get a $5 and hour job, which wont pay for SHIT without help from welfare, they kill the welfare. Welfare, as it is now, is NOT designed to help someone get on their feet, you are punished for trying to. THAT is the welfare problem in this country.

You college professor.... dont get me started on these so called "experts". If they knew half as much as they teach, about real world business or work in the private sector, they would laugh their asses off at the respectively meager salary a college pays compared to the real world job they are teaching you to get pays.
fly your arguemnet is flawed in this way- if there is a rent house/apartment the owner is paying property tax wheather or not its being leased or not its stilled payed.
the point trying to be made is this - an illegal escapes federal income tax and state property tax yet they reap all the benefits the system has to offer. Is it fair to you who as you stated pay 40-42% of your income to taxes?
The only tax an illegal actively pays is sales tax when they purchase an item.
What my problem is ,if they are going to come here and use our system they should contribute to it like everyone else. Now why cant they go through the right process to become a legal intity in the USA? maybe apply for visas instead of paying someone 10 grand to sneak them across the boarder.
