Some of you will know me, a good chunk of you wont, because I mainly play Tribes 2, but this applies to all game players so please read.

Some of you may have heard that Tribes 2 is currently having/did have (depending on when you read this) technical problems which have caused us to not be able to play the game (the main login server went down). As online gamers we expect things like this to occur from time to time, however, the server has been down for almost 48 hours now.

Sierra supplies very few servers for Tribes 2, most are player provided. Therefore they have to maintain very few servers, which equates to a low overhead. They have made (from my guesstimates) over 10 million dollars off of Tribes 2 players alone (taking into account the decline in cost of the game, and over 500 000 copies sold).

Sierra has offerred no explanation as to why the servers are down, how long it will take to fix, if they are working on them, or that they are sorry for the inconveneince - the only message we get is an error message when we try to log in.

In 48 hours NOT ONE attempt has been made to communicate the problem to us.

While I have no hard proof or facts, it seems to me that Sierra's support of Tribes 2 has dwindled considerably. It is curious that it takes over 48 hours to repair a problem, when they have clearly already taken our money in exchange for providing a service, which is unavailable.

We (I am speaking for the T2 players that I have talked to - quite a few, but if you dont feel this way feel free to respond) the Tribes 2 players are quite fed up with the way that Sierra treats us. We feel that we have little to no power in the face of this large company with a very large share of the gaming market. We have been forgotten about for a large part because Tribes 2 is not as popular as it once was. There is no money to be made off of it anymore. However there is still a dedicated base of players for the game however, and many of us are avid players - that have already paid and deserve the technical support of Sierra to fix these issues in a timely manner, not 2-3 days later or whenever they feel they can get around to it.

Having the server down for 48 hours damages what player base there is left. It also frustrates players, because no reasons, or explanations or apologies have been given, or even a time frame. My email to Sierra resulted in this response

Hi, we are working on getting the servers back up and running. We have been
having some network issues.
Thank you for your patience. We should be back up and running as soon as
possible.
Mike Bowman
Manager online support.

I sent a complaint after the servers had been down for over 36 hours.

You may ask what my point is.

Its fairly simple, if we as players dont stand together and tell gaming companies we wont stand to be pushed around, or neglected after we have paid our hard earned money for their game, then they will continue to treat us as they please. They will not repair servers, they will not add patches, they will not service our games even though we have paid for them. Why? because we keep shelling out cash for the next title, and the next one, even after they do things like this.

For proof I submit to you the fact that it was not too long ago that games were released without the need for further patching. Now it has become a regular occurrence.

So Im asking for support from the Online gaming community.

Alteast bump this thread, send an email to Sierra, complain....do something.

As a group we have a lot of consumer power. Alone we have nothing. Games earn 86 billion dollars a year for gaming companies. We spend that money, its time we got something in return.

While you have some very valid concerns, game companies do not make $86 billion a year.

Yep, Polaris is right... last year the industry 'as a whole' made 7 billion dollars. So the 86 billion comment is extremely over exaggerated; but you do make valid points... although I never did like T2. And I particularly detested Sierra's parent company when they dropped Dynamix to the curb. So, quite honestly, I'm not suprised. As far as I'm concerned the "community" of which you speak, lost support when Dynamix got cut off from it.

Everything was going pretty well until they dropped Dynamix. Sierra started screwing people over, and in my opinion, sent Marwease in as a front man to gives us hope - while they didn't have much intention of actually supporting us.

You didn't mention any way to take specific action in your post.. only that we need to come together as a community and stand up against the big companies.

If you feel strongly about this, setup a website that people can do a petition or something, I don't know. I'm a pretty crappy designer, but if you need help with it, nauticadesign@yahoo.com

While it would have been nice to play...the servers being down for a few days isnt a big issue IMO. If it was a very regular occurance it would be one thing but I dont see a problem here. Been playing this game for years and if the servers went down for good I would still have gotten more life out of tribes than any other game I have ever bought. I think its great they are still running the servers and responding and giving SOME support for a game long past its prime now sitting in a 10 dollar bargain bin...
...And they laughed when I waited until T2 was going for $5 in the discount bin.

1st, I though Gaming industry was the biggest one out there *even bigger then porn one*
2nd, wasn’t there a big mess over Christmas time
3rd, i was pist cause we had our first match the day then T2 went down...and we practiced soooo hard
4th, its stupid, but I think they fixed it on Monday was because no one works in their offices on Saturday and Sunday? o_O so they didn’t know until they got back to office on Monday
5th, maybe its Sierras complain to show us that we need single player tribes...just to kill time and continue on having fun while servers are down.

^^i'm not saying that my points make sence or even "smart" in anyway, but thats what i think

Cost of the game now is irrelevant as is if its in a bargin bin or not. Its called assumption. WE assumed to have a platform to play the game on and thats why we bought it. Technically, we could sue them if they don't get the servers back up! If they were to provide ways to play not over their master server thats different. But as of now, we have to use them as the vehicle to connect. FYI

yeah, I know...I also know there are ways to run and connect to servers without them, the servers being down for a few days does not warrant any action what-so-ever IMO...thats all I meant to say...it happens.

im not gonna let you forget that quote Vash. Everytime you make a post, I'm going to be right there to throw this in
Also, I seorisly doubt you could sue them. And even if you did sue them, spending $60 to file in small claims court to get your $40 back doesn't make a ton of sense.

Quite frankly, people need to stop complaining so much.. This may sound ignorant, but, get over it - they do not go down that much. A few times a year? OMG OMG WHAT TO DO OMG!! I could just see half of the Rapture team just sitting there trying to login for a few days straight while the severs are down.

I'm sure it would just kill a lot of people if they had to play a different game, or ever, OMG get off the computer for a bit.

Not even close... the internet Porn business is the biggest online money maker. The total revenues from internet porn are bigger than all the major computer manufacturers (Dell, Compaq, IBM, HP) combined.

*edit - this is soon to be the same with online gambling unless the US goes for the ban.

Hopefully they won't. Not sure, but, wouldn't online gambling boost the economy a bit? If that is a really dumb question, sorry, that's just who i am
too bad someone like TWL cant provide an additional backup login server that can be used if sierra's goes down (wink wink nudge nudge eeeh?)
This thread is a big wah.

Ok, t2 auth servers were down for 48 hours (they're back up now) so as I see it you are entitled to compensation based on availability. t2 has been out for 2 years which equates to roughly 17520 hours of availability. So you have lost .002% of game time (actually it wasn't lost, there were ways around it posted in the t2 forums on sunday). E-mail me with your address and I'll send you your .10 cents and it's resolved.
couple of points,
first yes it sucked not being able to play over the weekend but go outside and enjoy the weather ,sunlight doesnt kill you
second sierra can take down the master servers for good and there is nothing you can do about it, go read your TOS (terms of service) agreement so the sueing idea cant happen
third why would you even complain about them not finding out till monday? no one works up there saturday big fucking deal, i dont work on weekends either. that was a very selfish and ignorant commet.

vgs...i been cheated. We were talking about all those big industries and how much they make, and i told my friend that porn was. But i was denided and told that Gaming is. Well, looks like i was write from start. Hell, just off me porn can make $1k while gaming gets just $10 for T2 lol

why do you mention only this event, and not all other crashes of Auth server which over period of time will probably add up to maybe 1 or 2 weeks of game play. Thats would be 168-336 hours of gameplay LOST

don't take it quite so literally. I was merely trying to show the otherside of the equation so that people could see the big picture. 1 or 2 weeks out of 2 years I believe is reasonable for people who have spent thousands of hours enjoying the game for 40 bucks.

Sierra has never made the claim that their servers would have 100% uptime, nobody makes that claim. 99% is what you'll get most of the time from anyone. Well, 168 < 1% of 17520.

I understand that people are fed up with Sierra and the way they have been treated. Trying to get large corporations to do things differently by complaining as a consumer is like trying to down a 747 with a bb gun. They really only care about the bottom line. If you really want to complain, don't buy their games. It makes much more of an impact.
hey..i'm just trying to keep the thread goin
