i don't know why. some one educate me.

i just think when u conduct a rescue mission. u don't take keys. u overwhelm with force so u don't create more casualty. am i wrong?
Nope. Look at the people making the allegations. Many democrats or anti-war nuts just can't stand to see us make such a dramatic and succesfull operation - and therefor when faced with facts, they claim we made it all up.

i'm getting confused, from lots of stuff naut u look like a conservative (republican). i don't get how u and snake can get into each other so much

Ok Naut, I have had enough of this "us and them" crap, as if you are the holder of absolute rightousness. Im getting tired of you and a few others continually blasting people and getting away with it (where is Dommy when you need him?).

I haven't seen ANYTHING that says the dems as a group claim that the whole rescue thing was made up. Im an American, I have independant thought, I scrutinize everything because I have been lied to by Dems AND REPS all of my life and so have you.

Dommy, I hope you reign some of this in, because its gonna get ugly in here again. I am fed up with the way that some few in here continue to insult people for having an opposing view.

I am going to continue to question everything that comes my way. Why? Because to do anything less would be a disservice to myself and others.

Seems to me that questioning one president's (Bush's )motives is considered anti american and treasonous, while questioning anothers (Clintons) makes you a "real american".

What utter hogwash.

The day will probably come, gentlemen, when you will be very grateful for the freedom to question and criticize a government.

your entire post here make no sense.

i didn't call any anti bush ppl un-patriotic. it's another lie that the lefts put on the stage.

as for clinton. how can u not blast that guy when he commite a crime and still in office.

landing an aircraft on USS abe is not ok because it wasted tax payer money (according to dem) but it's ok to get a bj in the oval office (funded by the tax payers)

u need to stop those lies man.

And precicely what am I personally lying about? Please, for the love of god, try to respond with something readable.

So I paid for Clintons hummer? OH baby, thats rich. I suppose you dont mind paying 55 MILLION dollars for the subsequent investigation into this national emergency either.

If you have read alot of the other posts, I was referring to all the bashing on these forums, not just you. IN fact, I was responding to Naut, and NOT YOU. You want clarity? There it is.

i didn't say u, i say the lefts.

and because mr. clinton has no shame. he refused to resign like nixon did.

Wouldn't have happened if slick willy could have kept his panis in his pants in the first place.
the professional military conducted the operation, it was not a grand scheim forged by the GOP deep in the heart of the largest volcano on earth.

democrat, republican, they're all the same when they try to rise up and say "Hey look! we did this! we're so great! ya ya ya! great great great! Im so great! winers winers winers! yayaya!"

True enough. Either way, its an example of waste on both sides.
sorry but the bj cost money cause they tried to go after clinton. There is a hugh difference between trying to impeach a president and landing on a aircraft carrier. Also ones extremely a pure waste of money. Also you think that all the others presidents never got a hummer in the office? You telling me george bush senor settled for his nasty ass wife over some intern.

You're assuming an intern would go for that guy.

Slick Willy got that name, and the presidency, because he's a smooth-talker. He probably made even Ms. Lewinski feel pretty.

The Bush's are not smooth-talkers. They probably couldn't convince a sock to take their load. :]

Just to be accurate. Clinton was impeached for obstructing justice by presenting perjured testimony in a court of law.

He is only the second President to have been impeached in US history and the only President to have been slapped with a contempt citation for committing perjury.

No, not really. First, the Independent Counsel statute that was used to investigate the Clintons was put into law by the Democrats after Watergate. The person who does the initial investigation and determines if there is a cause to investigate is the Attorney General, which, in the case of the Clinton's, was a Democrat (Janet Reno). The AG will also suggest an appointment for the prosecutor.

The AG is also responsible for expansion of the original cause for the independant counsel (which is how concern about fiscal malfeasance by Clinton as a Governor led to investigations of perjury in a civil case).

Starr was just doing the job that a long line of Democrats created. If the dems wanted to be thorough in their partisanship, then they should have put in the law that an independent counsel cannot be convened against a sitting President if he is a Democrat.

EDIT: Anyone have any idea how long the Iran/Contra independent counsel investigation took? 7 years and 40-50 million dollars (inflation would put that around 60-70 million of Whitewatergates cost).

The Republicans back then complained about the waste of taxpayer money just like the Dems did against Whitewatergate. The difference is the media ignored the partisan bickering of the Republicans while they trumpeted the partisan bickering of the Dems by giving it a stage.

No one said we faked Lynch's rescue. People said that facts were twisted, created, or taken out of conext to make the rescue appear more dramatic to Joe Sixpack. From an embattled government's point of view, it was a great way to rally support from the general public and to get less airtime for the talking heads crying 'quagmire.' It was also subtle propaganda. And if you think our people within our government, democrat, republican or military are beyond using propaganda (not outright lies, but manipulation) then you're sadly mistaken.

funny, that you feel that the board is showing a more Republican/conservative style to it. i only started posting and reading here cause i felt that it was to much democrate/liberal views that dominated the focus.

but please continue on in your crusade, history shows things move in a circle. i expect this forum to eventually fall into liberal domination again and notice that conservatives have probally more political power right now than liberals, but i thought liberals use to be higher a while back.
It's not about the dominant opinion on the board. It's about the way a select few imbeciles present their opinion, usually looking down their nose at all the crazy lefts with an 'us an them' attitude. I could go to a klan rally and not here the term 'you people' used as often as it is here. It's almost like some people have a vested interest in proving that their opinion is the 'truth' and other's opinions are the musings of tree hugging lunatics. It's ridiculous and childish, and it turns intelligent discourse into another form of chest thumping.

i belive the story was started by BBC, who is not even allowed on British warships and bases because they twist the facts to much. then i belive it was the sun newspaper in LA who basically reprinted the article claiming it was true.

not really democrats who pursued the creation of the story, but anti-war liberals across the pond trying to cause controversy and stain the ""righteous"" war.

i find it pretty ridiculous and insulting to those units that performed the operation.
Naut you are, without a doubt, the most mentally challenged person on God's green earth.

I haven't witnessed it from any left's, but it wouldn't surprise me. I guess it comes with the territory of trying to have intelligent discussions with people who have something to prove, but still....it's aggravating. I would love for this forum to have an ignore feature, so good threads wouldn't be ruined by kids on either side jumping in to proclaim victory for their ideology and therefore themselves.

There was no ass to be kicked. It's wasn't some Rambo firefight with swelling music in the background. It was a straightforward operation carried out perfectly. That doesn't make it dramatic.

And that's exactly what I mean by propaganda, in this situation. The story was made to be something it was not. It doesn't mean that the operation wasn't warranted or wasn't a success. However, it wasn't a scene out of Blackhawk Down to rescue the poor girl on the verge of death from the evil, abusive Iraqi's.
Post edited by Razer_guy at 6/2/2003 7:25:16 PM
I didn't here swelling music in the background while the military officials were telling us about the rescue. All I heard was them, yes excidently, telling us facts. They did not use analogies, they did not blow the story up - they gave us by the book facts.

Where did the drama and overplaying come from? THE MEDIA. It happens everyday.. you see a small, nearly pointless happening get blown up into some big dramatic story.

Do not blame the whitehouse, blame the media.

-Naut
I agree total overkill.

All they had to do was call Ms. Cleo to see how much opposition there was going to be, why didn't they just call the place, Lynch was at, and ask if any bad guys were around? Then arm up with flash lights and pudding pops, after calling a taxi. After all it wasn't like this happened during a war or anything....ohh wait, it was. Never mind my rambling sarcasm then.

But why would you blame the military for the media hype. The military expressed their excitment about the success of the operation and the media took off from there (they are great at sensationalising everything).

Did anyone in the military OR the media even claim they were fired upon or had to return fire?

The fact is that brave men stormed a hospital that intelligence told them were filled with elite enemy military who were abusing an American POW. They displayed bravery and comradery just going into the place to attempt the rescue. Without the bravery of those men, Jessica Lynch would be where now?

I, for one, am glad that they were able to complete their mission without having to kill anyone or having to suffer any further casualties.

-pheirce
I actually never blamed the military. I place the blame on all of the 'unnamed sources' that gave misleading information, which just so happened to put a great spin on the story. And it would be foolish of me, knowing the situation from the time the rescue occured, to ignore the fact that these unnamed sources created a wonderful, overhyped personal interest story that everyone, pro or anti war could stand behind.
Also, please note that I never stated that there was no rescue, or that it was faked or anything of that nature. I believe that it was merely a routine operation, with minimal risk to our soldiers to rescue a captured soldier who may or may not have been injured evading capture.

If I recall correctly, the Pentagon released very little official information. Most information on the news was presented as being 'from unnamed sources within the pentagon' or merely 'unnamed sources.' Could be someone getting their story wrong, could be a planned media leak, could have been a fabrication on the part of the media.

Looking at the climate at the time this story broke, to dismiss the possibility that this was in fact an overhyped human interest story to distract the public from the talking heads screaming 'quagmire' and 'overextended supply lines' would be foolish.

It's unlikely we'll ever know the truth. However, if the truth were to be told, it would not surprise me to learn that the Pentagon witheld official statements precisely to allow the story to become overhyped into a positive story. Why else would there be silence from official sources? One could claim silence at the time for security of special Ops forces, or other security reasons. But why silence now?

Bah.. Im mad at you pheirce you never responded to my enviro-policy thread after the first point. Meanie.

From what you described above, all that money was still not worth the results. Either in the starr investigation or Iran-Contra.
As far as I am concerned, its just politics attacking each other. The legal history of most of congress is enough to worry me.

Anyone got a link to the report on the number of convictions that the congress has? I saw some report a while ago that has a list of the congressmen that have a rap sheet. Amazing how many actually do.
