Best Business Quality Laptops For a Reasonable Price

I need to by a laptop for my startup. I want to get something that isn't going to be painful for me to use performance-wise and won't break my back travel-wise.

I keep pricing out at $1800+ at Dell and really want to push this to $1200-1400.

Desired min. specs:

1.4 gig processor
512 DDR
CD/RW
Nic card (would love wireless broadband card)
XP-Pro
Office-Pro
Decent vid card (not gaming quality)
Decent sound card

Any tips?

P.S. - Assuming I could get comfortable with the idea, I would buy a quality laptop from a failing company/startup if available.

TySoft had an angle on a dell inspirion 1100 with all your specs plust at about 700. It's buried here in the gen forums. He had a couple coupons or something.

Any idea how well the 2 gig celeron's perform? How dumbed down are they?

My guess is they perform great.

There are some websites that sell Sager laptops (they make laptops for Compaq, Dell, etc...) but I forgot the website.

You could pry find it with google though.

The new Celerons are P4 class processors running at 400FSB with 128KB of onboard cache. They are basically P4s with smaller caches so they run just fine. Also, you may want to check the refurb section on DELL for deals on laptops that people ordered by never claimed or where sent back. My problem with buying a laptop is I insist on getting the 3 year onsite complete care warranty...especially since it covers stupidity and I have plenty of users that fall into that catagory. Typcial conversation I have with some of my users...

User: My P and O key are sticking and the computer locks up for no reason some times.

T.C.: Hmm...your keyboard smells like coffee.

User: Really? How does that happen.

T.C.: Um...duh...I don't think the smell generator was factory installed.
