'A BRITISH soldier has been arrested over sickening “torture” photos of an Iraqi prisoner.

They show a PoW dangling from a fork-lift truck.

Others allegedly depict soldiers committing sex acts near captured Iraqis.

The squaddie — in the 1st Royal Regiment of Fusiliers — was seized after he took a roll of film to his local photo shop to be developed. Horrified lab workers called in police.

One snap showed an Iraqi PoW who was bound and gagged. He was bundled up in netting suspended from the a fork-lift driven by a British soldier.

It is believed the prisoner was alive when the pictures were taken in Southern Iraq as the war was raging.

Last night a war crimes probe was launched by the Army’s Special Investigations Branch.
If proven, the incident would be a breach of the Geneva Convention and would cause huge embarrassment to the Army and Government.'

thank god the GC applys to everyone.

General Discussion is exactly that.... General...Discussion. His post is sure to erupt with many people's views of this attrocity (guess there's my view), some condeming it , some making excuses for it, but regardless, that is the point of Gen Dis, isn't it? to DISCUSS current events and such?

I didnt say anything about spaming, but its very annoying to see all this stuff in the news, only to run through 3 or 4 threads of it on TWL again.
its war, things like this happen. no army is perfect because armies are made up of human beings who have human nature. You can train and educate them to make the problem extremely small but there are still a few sick son of a bitches in the ranks that you don't expect till they do it.

and my god, a few soldiers doing it is bad, but think of what armies use to do in history, kill off entire cities, rape all the women etc etc etc.

I love the standards, bad guys around the world can kill thousands and maybe even millions before someone does something. USA and the coalition kills one person we are brought up on War crime charges, which should be done if it is the case and is a true crime but i don't enjoy the massive media attention for it, because all they could to do fine one story of how bad Americans or British are they have to run a story one or a few soldiers.

A. it's not the killing - thats allowed apparently, its the inhumane TORTURE of POWs... it puts those soliders (yes plural because there had to be a few involved) in the same class of animal as Saddam himself.
B. it's not one person, either. There were pictures of various POWs being tortured.... and thats just the ones they thought to photograph for souvenirs.
C.the rest of your post makes little sense, try grammar and spelling corrections. In any case, if you defend their actions, you may as well be part of Saddam's regime.

As for Coba|t's "its very annoying to see all this stuff in the news, only to run through 3 or 4 threads of it on TWL again."
well when you watch it on the news, you don't get to hear different people's opinions or angles on the story and you certainly can't pipe in and give Tom Brokov or Peter Arnett
YOUR 2 cents worth, can you now?

It doesnt really seem like a double standard considering that the stuff about how Iraqi soldiers were dressing up as civilians to lure coalition forces into traps etc. was on the news a lot more
i can agree more with Mac, too much left bull shit. blame america first. sick of this shit

Actually, I think the article was about a british soldier...

Edit: the article says that the army is bringing the charges, so I guess they are all liberals and theyre up to their normal anti-american bullshit??

You are too funny. Really you are. I wont bother with this thread or topic any more since my lack of grammer and spelling seem to insult you and restrict you from understanding my post. I wont clarify my broad generlaztions because you seem to care about insulting me more than what i actually said. Again i found your post quite humerous.

ps. i don't give a fuck if i have any miss spellings or incorrect grammer in the above message or this ps.

before i go, one last thing, yes i am being hypocrite, but whatever,

Soldiers who do this need to be punished. I didn't say anything about blame America. But war crimes are going to happen on both sides in any War, it is part of War. I just find the amount of media attention on it ironic as i do with most of their coverages.

First- This is nothing from "the left", unless by "the left" you mean seamingly accurate reporting by multiple news sources, then you're correct.

second- This is not blameing america by any stretch of the story, its about the brits

third- If you're dismissing this as an attack on america, then you obviously havent read the story.

First off.... Thank you. I'm glad I could make you laugh.I really am too funny, aren't I?
But seriously, your abuse of grammar does not insult me in any way, I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion. I simply could not understand what it was you were saying at the end there. And by stating that I did not understand it, I certainly did not mean to insult you, believe me, if I was to insult you, you would be insulted!
I was simply posting my view or opinion on the matter, which just happened to oppse your views or opinions, which is the basic recepie for a healthy debate. And Lastly, I DO care about what you actually said (at least the parts I could understand) thats why I posted a reply!I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were so sensetive. In thr future, I'll stick to the thinly veiled criticisms disguised as appologies.
PS .... lol "...miss spellings" ... you mean Tori Spellings?

The bickering is going to have to stop.

Cobalt is right, this is not hourly update. You are free to discuss topics like these in a civil manner, but do not simply post news links for the sake of informing the TWL community. If you have a viewpoint, share it. Otherwise don't waste our bandwidth.

this wasnt a 'hourly' update but more of a follow up of another thread. If people in this thread say 'hey bad mouthing the US' even tho the topic I picked for the thread was about the brits. its kind of hard to 'debate' with em.

Knightmare, if you can not understand Mac's post due to "grammer" and "spelling", well, you need to get help. Too bad this is on the internet and I can't actully say stuff slower for you, but, here it goes;

He thinks that it is ironic that Saddam and others can kill people by the thousands, and not get convicted of war crimes - while a few idiot soldiers can commit a war crime, and the media goes nuts. The goverment should not take a hit for this, the army should not coward down. I can asure you that most, by far the overwhelming majority, or our military is NOT like this. You can not judge a goverement, or military, by a few idiots commiting a few war crimes.

Should these people be thrown in jail, if not worse, for what they did? YES. What they did was wrong, but, don't try to blame America.

Was that slow enough?

-Naut

edit: We should not be taking more flack and publicity damage than Saddam Hussien. That is, as someone put it, lefty .

First - read his post.. he is refering to the fact that the media is going nuts over a few war crimes. Is one war crime too many? Yes. But this is the realworld, deal with it.

Second - So your blaming the entire British goverment and army rofl? GREAT. At that standard, America should be judge by Charles ? Come on.. don't try to feed us that

Third - Uhh the article is fine, it was Knightmare that made the cheap shot at American by posting "thank god the GC applys to everyone" in a sarcatic manner. If you do not get it, he is implying that America is trying to make it so that the Genovia Convcention (knight, I don't care if I spelled it wrong) does not apply to the US.

I think Knightmare hates the US and Britian. All he ever posts is shit that tries to degrade both. I truly wonder why he is so filled with hate.

And yes Knightmare about 99% of us see that!
