Favroite web designers

Got the idea when people started linking to their fav designers in the 'Anyone looking for a site designer' thread. I personally, am a designer, and have my ear tuned to the culture. Seems like a few of you are as well, so link us up.

I'll link a few of the classics first, to get them out of the way:

http://wddg.com
http://gmunk.com (the god of web design)
http://2advanced.com

personal fav's:
http://www.graffodisiak.com/
http://media.mk12.com/mk12v4/index2.html
http://www.w00zy.com/

digital pimping pixel hoes though fiberoptic connects all around this networked biaatch you call cyberspace.
Uh, please tell me why gmunk is the god of web design?

- His site takes way too long to load because he has a huge Flash piece in it.
- The site itself uses fonts that are ridiculously small.
- The navigation is extremely unintuitive.

And I could go on.

Is there something I'm missing?

It's a site featuring a bodybuilder with a sock in his crotch!

Faken

don't make fun.

that's pimp's dad.

Heh, its called style. He's always at the forefront of what he does, and serves as the source of inspiration and motivation for many.

It dosnt take to long to load, that is ofcoruse, unless you are on a modem, which is pretty much behind times now-a-days.

Again, the fonts and nav is small because it's his style: minimalist (a very popular style amoung designers). He does take it to an extreme level, and yes, it takes time to find out how exactly it works, but it's extremly unique and design-intensive. By doing work like that, it shows that munk can obviously do any sad 'quick loading, large font, simplistic, comformitive' website in a days work.

They all suck, those are the worst websites I have ever seen. They are worse than that unnavigable matrix site.

Actually those are called bitmap fonts... a style popular last year until more ppl started running 1280 x 1024 resolutions... now it's getting a bit annoying. But they look so cool Everytime I try to sneak small bitmap fonts on a client's project, they always bitch it's too hard to read. That's why I throw it in all my personal art

Faken

Function is the driving factor in sites, not style.

But then again I write web apps that thousands of people use daily among 3 different companies (currently). In the time it took homeboy to stick the sock in his pants and snap his pics and put them into flash, I can put up a basic functional billing system into a company with role based user access and be almost done with the matching IVR software to handle inbound calls for customers to check their accounts.

a moronic waste of time that is.

Um... minimalist doesnt mean he uses small things. It would mean he abides by a "less is more" philosophy - which is definately not the case.

The guy does cool looking sites, but that by no means makes him a good designer. They are artistically pleasing, but when it boils down to it, all that matters is what the user needs - which he removes from the equasion by providing bad navigation and useless fluff.

Agreed.

And, Faken, I'm running in 1024 x 768 and the font size annoyed me.

Well designed = functional = usable = quick response time = aesthetically pleasing = a whole lotta stuff.

Gmunk shows that he can do all sorts of neat stuff, but as far as design skills goes: I wouldn't hire him based on the site you linked.
