ok- I only got 3 clicks into this as the very first statement makes it sound like every jew in the middle east came from the holocaust. You know as if there were NO Jews in the middle east until after WWII? They just appeared the fuck out of nowhere and picked the palestinians to shit on.
WRONG WRONG WRONG,,
---1st off the Israeli's or Jews at the time of partition accepted the plan the Arabs refused attacked and were defeated by a Jewish army outnumbered and out gunned
---2nd---actually u mentioned Jewish Immigration began after the holocaust but it actually began (the modern immigration that is) in the 1880's. (although there has been a small Jewish communitiy in Israel since the Roman Diaspora
---3rd---Israel invaded the Suez in 1956 because Egypt nationalized the canal (against international law) and forbid any Israeli ships passage (this is a legal cause for war as it was in essence an embargo of Israel) the US was upset not at Israel but at the French and British becuase the US wanted to show that post WWII no such operations will be launched without US approval or at least knowledge
---4th---Israel did not launch an "offensive" during the 1967 war but rather a pre-emptive strike (a real Pre-emptive strike not a Bush one), Armies of Syria, Jordan, Egypt massed on Israels borders in preparation for driving the Jews into the Sea (massing armies on a nations border which has been freqeuntly attacked by those very nations and has been sworn to be destroyed by those nations is perfectly a legal reason to launch a pre-emptive strike (and quite a strike Israel Launched). At the time the whole world knew of the massing of forces on Israel's border and were excpecting the arabs to strike first. To summarize this point Israel threw the first punch and a knockout punch it was only after being FORCED into the Ring
Know your facts, read more text, not jsut one, for u to believe that Israel was responsible for the ^-day war of 1967 either means u are an Arab or merely a naive scholar at best who has accepted the first text he has come across, a majority of text and information on the conflict will prove my case. SO don't feel bad u posted non-sense try reading a bit more.
um, I hope youre not talking to me.
Just in case you were, its called sarcasm. try reading it again.
if you werent talking to me, hey, go get em! but realize its a link posted from usatoday and dont say "you said" cause nobody here has said jack. Post edited by Scorpio at 5/27/2003 2:56:04 AM
Further more while some Palestinians were driven out of their homes in 1948 (some as a majority left out of fear rather then gunpoint), during the 1967 war "Palestininas were not driven from their homes" but rather told on Jordanian, Syrian, and Egytpian radio to "To flee the zionists as they will murder you" the point of those broadcasts were to prolong the Palestinian-Israeli conflict by creating a massive refugee problem, in that the Arabs were successful as the conflict still rages today.
All occupied territories Israel now holds came about in self-defense and not agression, in fact even the UN (which is obviously anti-Israel does not have an easy time calling the occupation "illegal" for these specific reasons, self-defense and a obvious need for security
ohh and btw i realize u posted this for everyone to see out of good will with no malice intended so i apologize for earlier comments referring to u need to read more. although if the subject intersts u u will find it intersting, so no pun intended, my sincere apologies

Yes, my mother and her family were one such group of people.
And, the Arabs attacked because Israel declared independence in 1948. I'm not commenting on whether the attack was justified or not (DoMiNuS: help a little here in the history of it all?), just saying that's why the attack occurred.
Speaking of Sharon (the handle of one of the people here), I have a newfound respect for him given his willingness to consider a peace plan, any peace plan, that results in some sort of independent state. Before, I thought the rest of the world should have nuked Arafat and him. Now, I just think Arafat needs to be nuked.
For the uninitiated who don't know me, I'm far from anti-semitic (my last employer was based in Tel Aviv and 98% of the company was Jewish). But, I'm not naive enough to think that peace can be achieved in the Middle East without the establishment of some place that the Palestinians can call their own.
I'll leave the details of how that should be accomplished (including what concessions both sides need to make) to those who are directly involved. I just want peace. Post edited by Questor at 5/27/2003 8:26:58 AM
For those who want to go all the way back...The area has been a crossroads for human activity dating back to the Neanderthal migration out of Africa, approximately 500,000BCE. So, there is a loooong chain of human activity and events. The Canaanites occupied the area "for centuries" before the Philistines took over northern Canaan, then the Hebrew in 1125BCE (some say 1312BCE). But, 2 things. We don't reliably know where the Hebrew came from before being held captive in Egypt. Maybe they lived in Canaan when the Egyptians enslaved them, which is why the area was controlled by Egypt when the Canaanites and Philistines moved in. I found this quote: "The Philistines are thought to be Mycenaean descendents, probably displaced by the Dorian invasions of Greece."There was a place named Phaistos, in Southern Crete. Awfully similar. Here is another reference for posterity:http://home.uleth.ca/geo/philist.htmAnd, the Philistines assimilated with the Hebrew. One reference says some survived another hundred years in Philistia where the Gaza is now, before they were assimilated as well. The Philistines were more technologically advanced, being able to work iron. This appears to be the basis of their trade with the Hebrew. However, over the stated time, any differences evaporated and the populations merged. After that, inhabitants were migratory. This means that today, Jews have that mixed heritage (could be part original Greek, not present Greek). 'Palestinians' are not Philistines, the Jews are. The PLO Charter of 1968 invented the "Palestinians" from the Arab population. I believe the Romans used Herodutus' work to name the area 'Palestine'.I also study archeology and have found references to the 5,000BCE seafaring groups occupying the area of Lebanon south to Gaza.In addition, the fall of Troy is about 750 years before the Hebrew arrive from Egypt. I think I have seen that they were enslaved 400 years. If the Hebrew originally occupied Canaan 1800BCE, were enslaved 1600 BCE, escaped and returned 1225BCE, then the Hebrew could be the band that escaped from Troy's destruction. At least it would explain their advanced knowledge of building which was so coveted by the pharoahs.Of all occupiers, the Hebrew/Jews have been there the longest, except for maybe the Neanderthal. They have continuously occupied the area since 1225BCE (or 1312BCE) stubbornly never let go of their original homeland.

Lol im not in the Ariel Sharon Fan club, ijsut started using the handle to bug a friend a long time ago and have stuck with it, and regarding Sharon, peace, and settlments, since settlements were Sharon's creation it maybe a good idea and a feasible won that he is now the PM who will give the order to remove them if neccessary
