Complete newbie unix Question?

I want to start playing with Unix what is the best version to start with and where do I get it?

get a mac

yes um thanks much...

I'm using xp pro on my main partition so I'm not looking for some great operating system, I'd just like to learn what Unix is all about. I've done a little homework and I think BSD looks cool, anyone know for sure?

http://www.freebsd.org/

Is this a good platform for learning the Unix way?

You want learn Unix or linux?

FreeBSD is closer to Unix then Linux.

As for Linux the best one for the new guy is either Redhat or Mandrake (Mandrake is a bit easier)

If you want Unix then go to Sun and get Solaris 9 for x86 will cost you either $9.99 or $19.99 cannot remember which (to cover thier BW charges they say). But beware that it is NOT a user freindly install and will not work on the newest hardware.

Hope that helps
