I just caught wind of a guy playing the Rapture vs IA match on Youtube, which I played in. I come back here and no more Tribes Forums? WTF?! Surely some of you live?!

They deleted the tribes forums (technically "archived" it). They forgot what the "T" in "TWL" stands for.

It was really a pathetic demise...

1. This young guy (19) was new and being annoying but he was mostly left alone.
2. He posted that he was dating a 14 year old girl.
3. People called him a pedophile.
4. He started paying the admins all these compliments and things and asking for threads / forums to be deleted.
5. Admins were happy to do so (as part of the new image of TWL 2.0).
6. The poster that started everything realized what he'd done and asked for mercy from community.
7. We banned him from everything.
8. Gunther was being himself and the admins didn't really understand and took that as a good reason to delete it too.

They should have just banned both (I mean Gunther played Renegades after all).

What was the business plan of the new owners when it acquired this site? Does TribalWar make any money? Their forum is a merciless shithole populated by useless fucks. I wonder if MacArthur and drvonsock truly read the good threads in which we really did have great debates. Too see only the bad behavior and forget all the good really does a disservice to the quality of the product they are supposedly trying to restore. To paraphrase what I said back when Questor was banning the shit out of people a few years ago (remember the Sammy Soc, Stryk and Samuwell 6 month bans?) the infantile fuckfaces that throw shit on a daily basis have driven traffic (e.g. clicks) to the GF. Yes, the site is gaming driven but as games decline you need something that generates residual traffic and that is the refugees from long dead games (e.g We, the GF trolls, who include some surprisingly affluent and educated folks such as doctors, lawyers and businessmen.)

I respect their efforts despite my disagreement of their methods. They are trying to revitalize a community in long decline because of the decline of the games that once thrived. It can be difficult to innovate away from tried and true classics that still have a loyal, but dwindling, fan base.

But like others who have weighed in over the past few weeks, I must encourage DrVonSock to see the reason that so many people are reacting by lashing out at you and your servant MacArthur. We like this community. We made friends here. MacArthur just banned leroybrown after he playfully implied his frustration caused by the decline of the community. Leroy made it clear prior to his ban why he had said what he said. He made a joke (interpreted by MacArthur as cruel) but all he really wants to see is TWL thrive as it once did. Leroy's ban, not his earlier comment, was really the cruel joke and he was dismissed even as he implied with his comments that should give the administration here heart: He wants your investment to succeed but only disagrees with some of your decisions. Why are people being punished for agreeing with your goal of making this site better? My only guess is that you only remember the bad comments (not as common as you might remember) and forget that the 13 years of community were driven by a loyal following whose remaining members have been cast out over the last few weeks.

I recall reading MacArthur say that he enjoyed reading the threads with robust but relatively civil and thoughtful debates. I remember them too, having participated in many of them over the past 10 years. Not to toot my own horn, but I was part of the reason that people saw them as civil and thoughtful. Because that is a reflection of my personality. As it is the reflection of the personalities of a number of other regular posters who have departed in recent years. It takes a lot to prepare and post insightful comments (as I always hope to do) but we believe it to be worth it if they are seen by many others (even if they are silent observers). With diminished traffic, what is the use in having such debates?

Before you moved the Cesspool to a location where none of us can access it, did you read some of the recent threads? I authored them. They were dry, boring and little commented upon, but they were thoughtful, informative and valuable. All of that was cast aside. It was as if our own history was expunged from memory without our consent. And so we will leave your site. The Tribes posters had some good members and some bad members. They also had a rich history that they prized. But it was also swept away. Stolen, they might say. And so they will leave your site.

We want you to succeed, guys. That's why we care so much. And we respect your goal. But because of the last several weeks many of us will leave your site.

Blue, I posted about the Joe Rogan Experience, John Oliver, the Silk Road bust and barely got a response. Unless you are trolling and posting some incitful shit, no one on here cares because the people that have a brain for the most part are gone. the rest are just here to push buttons and say stupid shit.

Not kissing arse but I am fine with it and accept it. I admit I come on here and act like an idiot alot but I do also post things that are non political, non racial and normaly have to do with some hot women. Im over the polital postings because they go nowhere. But if I were to go bonkers and get banned, i would accept it. I also understand its not my site, i do not pay for it and the owners can run it the way they want. i have the right to go somewhere else to be an idiot.

MacArthur thanks for taking the time to read my post. I know you disagreed with some of it and it took maturity to answer with less disdain than you could have. I used some pejorative language to describe the less desirable users. These users are the targets of these semi-regular purges and I think they deserve some colorful language. But because of the daily drudgery that is so much a part of our daily lives they gave us some light amusement to look forward to each day. Will the advertisers come back if I click on all their ads every time I visit the site? What can I do for you MacArthur?

I'm sorry you took the "servant" comment as some kind of insult. I didn't elaborate on what I meant by it. Other people would surely have used it to mean that you are some sort of stooge. Since this site was usually moderated by volunteers, I always thought of them as serving both the ownership and the community: hence, they are "servants". I didn't realize that you are being paid for moderating us.

As for leroy, I commented upon what I read prior to and just after he was banned. Given the information that was available, it was logical for me to come to the conclusion that I discussed. Since you have been working for this site for a long time I know that you are familiar with plenty of people around here. I'm not sure how familiar you are people like leroy, who's rarely been disciplined and is actually one of those "responsible adults" that you want around here. Leroy is not Snake, Sammy Soc or all those others who've got into trouble for flame wars. His contributions have always been to make light jokes that are rarely to be taken with much seriousness. Snake's been banned so many times that people don't bat an eye when it happens. But I know you're dealing with some stress so its understandable that you reacted that way. You just want the attitude and the opposition to stop. I just wanted to say something in defense of those who I know to be good souls.

here is a part of the problem, I am sure they are all good souls (okay maybe almost all) some of the people are taking this personally and it is NOT personal. I have directed my staff to stay away from moderating this forum for now until I can get it under control, because sometimes they take it personally, and that just blows everything up. A lot has been said about me and that is fine. Those people do not know me therefor it would be ludicrous to take it personally. I have wanted to chime in on some of these conversations numerous times in the last few weeks, but I have the need to stay out of them for now until everything is under control. I have to keep an air of impartiality or I will be accused of banning someone because I disagree with their beliefs instead of the fact that they told someone to "go f*ck themselves".

I am hoping to be able to chime in on some of these chats by the time we move over to the new site.

What kind of business alienates its customers? Your logic is flawed, especially considering the supposed purpose for this TWL and TWL 2.0 which is to be a COMPETITIVE gaming website.

If you want to run a forum consisting of friendly "lets hold hands and sing songs" type of people then by all means create a strict code of conduct and enforce it your heart's content. But if you want to run a COMPETITIVE gaming website then you'll need to learn to put up with the antics of competitive players who are, by nature, aggressive and outspoken. If you don't, then they will just go find some other place that does and you will be left with a bunch of ladders that look exactly the way they do now.

Right now, if I were a team leader looking for some ladders to put my team on I would not join TWL because of how boring and dry the competitive scene looks. Slapping on a fresh coat of paint for TWL 2.0 isn't going to do anything if it's still the same underneath.

I promise you if this game was so awesome and had such a following, it would be on the ladder here.

I mean, if Tribes 2 is sucha great game and a ladder needs to be opened, AND A FORUM, how come gametracker does not track it.

I do not keep up to date on current hot games, but even I can think of a few off the top of my head that don't show up on this gametracker website, so using that as a way of judging a game's popularity is just silly.

I mean, I still play BF2, should I start crying for a BF2 forum because I miss all the fun me and about 4 other people had in that forum section?

Its time to move on guys. I suggest you all make a FB page or create your own Tribes forum and that will be that. Its obvious you guys are in contact with each other outside the TWL forums so why the hell do you not just create your own forum. I mean, its obvious at this point you guys are here just to start shit because you bring nothing to the GF other than bitching about your precious Tribes forum.
