North Korea says it has detained an American for what it called improper behavior while the man was being processed to enter the country as a tourist.

The official Korean Central News Agency identified the man as Miller Matthew Todd, 24, and said he entered the country on April 10 with a tourist visa, but tore it up and shouted that he wanted to seek asylum.

It said the man is being investigated after authorities detained him for "gross violation" of North Korea's legal order.

Of course, this could be the KCNA just saying that the guy wanted to seek asylum from the horrible conditions of the United States.

great story about US Army Sergeant Charles Jenkins who defected to North Korea during the Korean War.

he too is treated like royalty, which is almost on par with lower middle class here in the States.

I agree. Any American who would be so fucking stupid to have traveled to North Korea, regardless of if they actually tried to defect or not, and then got locked up...let them rot.

Traveling to North Korea has got to be one of the dumbest fucking things you could do as a free citizen of any country. It's right up there with Russian Roulette as far as Darwin Awards go.

What's sad is the fact that N Koreans are BARELY above the level that the video depicted the US as being.

I read a book, Nothing to Envy, by Barabara Demick. About how N Korean during the big famine to near present. That place is FUCKED UP.

exactly....i have a simple rule on this

if you will got shot for trying to leave the country (as a citizen)......it should probably be on your "do not travel to" destinations list.

USSR, N KOREA, .........I mean shit, Cuba sucks, but even an ocean an incarceration didn't stop most of their people from jumping ship.

Funny how certain Americans forget that the government of Ukraine was elected by the people. After the riots/coup, these certain American's all of sudden were the biggest supporters of Ukraine.

I'd also like to add that if George Bush was President right now and I had never been to Ukraine and we moved the clock back to 1989, I would be posting photos of nukes all over this fucking forum.

Last thought: It seems a little too easy for the people in power in this country to over look little things called elections in other country's. It kind of makes me wonder why they pretend to care for the facade of elections here.

yeah, but if they "elect" someone who doesn't like us, or who refuses to trade with us in a beneficent manner (for us)....then they obviously made the wrong choice.

be it in Iran when we tried to get a coup going there....back when we supported Iraq over Iran....before changing our mind about that.
