The Hobbit, part deux

Was like watching a British soap opera. I can't decide whether the cinematography will grow on me, or whether it's bad, but one thing is sure, it was unique.
Yeah I heard from word of mouth by 1 or 2 people that the film isn't that good. I personally have no idea and haven't watched it yet. Probably will catch it when it comes through on the movie channels.
Saw it yesterday. It was...meh.

I'd have no problems telling people to skip it in the theater and just wait for it on pay-per-view or Blu-ray or whatever.

There weren't any "OMG!" scenes that demand seeing it on a big screen. And the story was, as I wrote above...meh.

Seemed to take forever to get to the part where Smaug made an appearance, and the way the exchanges between him and Bilbo were filmed made you think...why the fuck doesn't he just roast Bilbo and be done with it?

Although I was kind of looking forward to the Hobbit films, I think the problem with filming that book is, The Hobbit is really more of a kids' tale, and the characters and storyline aren't anywhere close to being as developed as Lord of the Rings. I think it's hard to turn an "immature" (in the storyline sense) fantasy into some kind of grand cinematic adventure like Lord of the Rings was.
I have read the Tolkeinites are upset with a few added things to just make the movie longer. They claim the extra things don't really enhance the movie. (i'm not saying what in case people don't want to know till they watch).

I liked it a lot. I don't expect movies to be literal adaptations to books. Jackson did a good job with the story, visual and emotion thru the journey.

They're making 3 movies out of material suitable for one, hopefully this is the main filler movie and number 3 has the payoff.
I heard last week that kim kardashian is a hobbit....
I had read somewhere that Jackson added content taken from Lost Tales and the Silmarillion. Is that not true?

There is nothing really wrong with the story. Most of what was added is from other works of Tolkien, in an effort to better tie this story in with the LotR.

Neecho, as for the exchange between Bilbo and Smaug, it fairly much followed the book.

My problem wasnt with the story, or the cgi, or even the 48fps. It was more with the continuous camera shots. Like the entire movie was filmed
on gopro in 1 long take. Idk, it was visually stunning, just strange. maybe it will grow on me.
Did the IMAX 3D thing, I liked it and thought it was worth every cent. It wasn't epic or anything but visually it's pretty stunning and the story is good enough. It did feel like mostly filler, and it did take a while to get to Smaug but when they did he had plenty of screen time.

The last one should be good.
it was good, but christ, i thought surely someone/thing would die. definitely good in imax 3d

That's the way Peter Jackson does things. [Shrug]
