any money above 1k?

it's a nice way to find out how much your friendship is worth!

(and no, have not lost money to friends, yet!)
No, I've loaned a couple hundred though. Usually it gets back to me, if not in cash, it comes back with drinks at a bar, cigars, food, etc..

I've never loaned that much to a friend or relative, and never will.

I loaned a coworker a few hundred a couple times years ago, and he always paid me back, but it kind of irritated me.

The only way I'd loan that much money to somebody is if they're in a life-and-death need of it immediately. As in, "My bookie is coming to shoot me in the head if I don't pay him back that $1000 I owe him!" Okay, in that case I'll LOAN you (not give you) the money. Otherwise, tough shit. Go sell blood at the blood bank.
Yes, I have.

It went fine, but it was to someone who is punctual to a fault, and I knew well enough not to doubt. Also, he wasn't desperate.

I feel bad about it, but if someone were truly desperate, I'd be more wary of lending them money, because then things are more out of their control and character and intention might not matter. Then it's basically a gift (with the potential to destroy your friendship). Much riskier, loaning people money when they actually need it.
Now that I read some response, yeah, I lent money to one of my sisters one time, I think it was 15k, she paid it within the year, as agreed.

Years later I needed 4k for a couple of months and she covered it for me, I paid her in time, as agreed.

I am happy to say my close family members are good on this area, I am very grateful for that.

> 1,000 k

It was somebody I trusted. I don't trust anybody with money anymore.

Live and learn.

I never have either. I have borrowed money from family before but only because I know how much I don't like owing anyone anything, i.e. I always pay them back on a mutually agreeable schedule.

Did you notice that ~~Snake~~ has a hardon for Mack because his last name is Chin?
alright, just got a call.

this morning I got a call from a friend, asking to borrow "as much as you can lend me, I can pay you by month's end"..I gasped cuz I am truly small fish, truly. I tell him how much I can fork, he says OK, Ill call you back in few minutes to let you know if I end up needing.

He calls back says yes, when can I pick it up? Pick up? yeah wont clear the banks in time, those fuckers, he says.

alright...tomorrow by 10am.

he called back a few minutes ago, today he had a good day and no longer needs the money, I go, dude wtf is going on?

he says, I bought a sailboat in the US and brought it over, right? yes...(I say)... I am due to take possesion this weekend and customs want xyz k's by Friday and I wasn't expecting it like that, but had a big day today so I no longer need to borrow the money, thank you blah blah,

he goes, this brings us to the next issue, (I sigh)....yes? I am here to fuck with your mind, cuz that's what good friends do, how would you like to join me and my gf in bringing this baby up the coast back to Barcelona?, this weekend...(they dont need me, he just wants to treat me for offing the money no questions asked on the details) I go, man, all of a sudden I gotta shit, I got the weekend planned tight, lemme think about the possibilities and will call u back tomorrow by noon.

I thought it over and havent called him back, but I will decline, for I want a restful weekend, sleeping well at night with heavy days, besides it will be coastal cruising all the way, motoring cuz we got to get back by Monday 9AM...so no, im gonna decline.

maybe i will regret it, but most likely not. when spring comes he will want crew to bug out on a Thurs night and head to Mallorca or Ibiza.

loaning money to friends or family is just a disaster waiting to happen.
On the other hand, if you give them money when they are in a time of need & you don't expect them to pay you back, then you'll be fine.
