"The last mile of transportation is this huge problem that hasn't been solved yet," Boosted Boards co-founder Sanjay Dastoor said in the company's promotional video below. "Once you get off of a public transit system, whether it's a bus or a train or anything else, how do you get along that last mile to your destination?"

----------------------------------------------------

??? Hmmm, I don't know, how about you use the most versatile mode of transport known to mankind? You know, those things called LEGS! WTF is wrong with these people? Is walking a mile really such an inconvenience that it makes more sense to carry around a skateboard all day?
Of course that wont be enough, soon you'll have to carry around a helmet and pads as well. All to save yourself a 1 mile walk?

I try to get in 10,000 steps per day. Why people always have to park so close to everything or not walk is why we are a fat society. I don't get it. You see fat folks with handicap license plates all over. Sad

damn it......I am a fucking American.

And as an American walking is for faggots and Europeans. And faggot Europeans.........

If god wanted us to walk he wouldn't have given us two legs the ability to enjoy being lazy and the mental ability of letting someone else get us to our destination.

I get mad at people who use the handicap spots at the mall. They need to park 10 feet from the door just to walk all over the place at the mall

For years, when I was a kid, I thought this symbol meant parking for people with massively fat asses.

I had no idea it was supposed to be a wheelchair for exactly that reason. Being morbidly obese isn't a disability we should be encouraging with front row parking. If anything they should have to park in the back of the lot.

Well there are a lot of fat people. At what BMI does a person become eligible for the handicap sticker? Should there be more handicap spots to meet increased number of the super morbidly obese handicapped? How do we as a society meet the on-coming "bulge" in demographics?

Ten thousand isn't even that hard to do. Heck, I've put in 40K+ a day when I was in a competition.

Americans are lazy because they've become accustomed to convienence. When I lived in Japan and England, they are much more keen to use public transportation(they are setup for it). As such, they have to walk to the bus station or the subway, then they have to walk home. They think nothing of walking a half mile to get somewhere.

If Americans had to do that.....

There'd be a revolution.

10k a day is 5 miles a day. If you think thats easy to do then good for you. Between meetings, appointments, and reports its tough to get than many in everyday consistently.

Seems like a lot of blacks have handicap passes and get out of their cars with no apparent issues.

I guess none of you have ever been on a Skateboard. Normal people who are using them to get to work are not gonna enjoy hitting little pebbles that send then 5-10 feet in the air, propelled or not.

Its not that smooth of a ride with those little wheels. The last mile, or the last 50 yards.

Few things:

1. Not everyone has the balance to stay on a skateboard or "longboard"...that being said, going 20mph on one, is kinda nerve racking if you never took the baby steps to get to that speed.

2. I don't think this will work in most areas unless it's around a city or small town. If I could take a train or lightrail to work I would fucking do it. My commute is about ~25miles to and from work. I could easily save roughly 300-500 dollars a month just by doing it, worth buying/carrying an electric skateboard for the last mile or so when I get off? Sure, some backpacks are made to carry them so why not if I'm saving money? For me it would be useful in this made up perfect world I want to live in.

3. America. Fuck. There will be so many accidents, it would be retarded. You will have the 300+ pounders falling, rolling and suing their way to the bank...I mean, we sue for everything even coffee being hot. Like others said, unless you know the feeling of cruising down a street and hitting that one fucking pebble...it's bad news bears. I am aware the longboards typically have bigger wheels to counter this, but it's still not perfect. Also roads/sidewalks not being maintained can end you up in the ER.

4. I think that if you do have a public commute/short drive to work, are able to skate to work instead of drive, can balance on a skateboard, can not break the skateboard, are a yuppie, then do it, why not...watch out for pebbles and cars.

5. I see nothing wrong with a regular skateboard/longboard...? I see people cruising on them almost everyday around the city/my county. It's a decent workout, simple design, and it can cost under $80-$150 to own a decent board. Also if you don't beat the fuck out of it, it can last years. I can understand they want a motorize vehicle and thats cool and all, but if you are too tiered or lazy to give yourself a few kicks on the street to get you going, should you really be on a motorize skateboard that can go 20mph? Road rash is a bitch.

Just my thoughts, it would be cool to see these hit the street. but not practical for everyone.

Love it!
i'm pretty sure public transportation is a left-wing anti-american thing.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The right is more virtuous than the left. They have twice as many virtues because they have double the standards.

These guys are selling propelled longboards primarily to skateboarders. That is gonna be the target market, not fat, out of shape moms or business men. I fail to see a real issue here. Fail topic, fail thread. Out of practice, maybe?

If any of you actually longboarded, you would see the benefits behind this instantly. You can only go downhill one way.
huh i wonder what cost so much and what they are useing... for 1200 that's alot of change to get a board figure you run this on 2 6s lipo battery's, 2 low kv high trq brushless motors...and a way to drive the wheels i mean it's not alot of money in parts but the little thumb grip even that is cheap enough to do anymore because of the technologies. hope it works for them but they will need to get there prices down to get a large enough market for the boards to sell good. edit. anyone who plays with RC cars or Helis and plays with lipos be safe they are fire hazards. maby they are useing life batterys

lithium polymer batteries are a primary fire hazard when you exceed the charging rate.

Considering the use of this, I doubt they will use Lithium Polymer and will give up the slight weight saving and go with Lithium Ion.........

As for the rest of your criticisms......I totally agree.

Outside of the tooling machine time on the CNC to cut the aluminum gears.......the costs far exceed the reality.

It's essentially trendy and looks good and to the Apple generation, who needs to be the first to have the next cool gadget, at any cost, that should work well for them.

Good for them though for doing something creative and applying some engineering practices at long last.......
