This is a great example of why you should have to have a specified permit, license, training class to own a boat.....

Oh, wait, NO, never mind.......this is where you could just use common sense to establish that you are going way way way too fucking fast and that you need to slow down or else you will go airborne.

People like that are the reason why we took our boat out of Barnegate Bay.

Funny video. When I had a boat years ago we hit a sand bar in lake Erie in the middle of the lake. Everyone went flying forward. Could barely see the thing and didn't expect it.

Boats are fun(besides money pits) but can be dangerous. Wave runners that dot all the lakes around here are many people get injured. People with no boating experience rent one and don't realize there are no breaks.

This is why we need more police to patrol the lakes........more mandated safety in our boats.......and need stricter licensing requirements to own/drive a boat.

We should create a separate DMV entity just for boats, ATV's, rocking chairs, and skate boards.

It's obviously imperative to our safety.

Well, in Jersey... you need need a boating license for operating a boat in the lakes, but not the ocean... which is crazy sauce.

A boat license and New Jersey boat safety certificate is required to operate a power vessel or personal watercraft - jet ski or waverunner - on non-tidal waters of New Jersey.

But for all boats, you need to carry around a NJ Boat Safety certificate... which can be a bad Xerox copy of the certificate that the State mails you on a sheet of 8.5"x11" paper... and that thing will qualify you forever.

I laminate my certificate, and I got the thing a decade ago.


It's retarded... because there are a ton of summer motorboaters that drive like shit out there. Pass on the wrong sides, try to jump people's wakes in a big 20-30ft speedboat in a NO WAKE zone in the bay.... Total assholes out there boating like retards.

I don't know whether the safety certificate has helped, or the fact that marine fuel is $5-6/gallon and people are unemployed in Jersey... but I can say that there have been fewer assholes on the water the past two summers than there had been in the past. Fishing has been decent.

ditto here, boating is truly a pleasure in Bcn now. very few power boats, jetskis or skiers our there this year, oops gas is too expensive? ouch!

i go out every week at least one day week, sometimes 2 or 3 times, and 90% of the boats I see out there this year are sailboats. Now I set up the autopilot and chillax with a book on deck and raise my sight every now and then, cuz now i dont have to worry about asstards on speedboats that dont know what they are doing. There are asshats on sailboats too, dont get me wrong, it's just that to sail u need more skill, and thus, more time put in, and thus more experience with "the rules of the road" or "common" courtesies, whereas in a speedboat, most people think "turn un, point and gun it". %'age wise, there are more asstards on speedboats b/c they require less time to learn 'the craft".
