Gentlemen. I haven't been around much (mad love, just busy), but I had an interesting weekend and thought I'd share. I'm copy/pasting from my FB to avoid retyping.
From my post Saturday Afternoon:
So, I was involved in a home invasion/armed robbery/fight for my life this morning. Ill take it from the top, and bear with my essay. Let me start by saying that I am fine and, actually, epic winning. Okay, so I slept on my couch last night and when I woke up at about 7 this morning I noticed that my balcony door was open halfway (I live on the 6th floor). I thought that was odd and began investigating my place. I went for my bedroom and the door was shut (also odd) so I opened it and went in. I immediately noticed that my .380 pistol was missing from its spot, and turned around to get out of there. When I turned around there was a dude behind my door with my pistol in my face (enter a side rant here about properly securing your weapons, but different topic, and lesson learned). So he tells me dont look at my fucking face and get on the bed face down. I comply. Once Im on the bed he grabs some duct tape, secures my hands behind my back and puts a blanket over my head so I cant see. He then resumes ransacking my place.
Now, I dont know if youve ever been bound at gunpoint and blinded, but it makes your mind go to a really weird place. I mean really weird. So Im thinking, Okay, if this dude is going to rob me, cool. I got insurance and shit for that, fine. But, I am bound here and what if he decides he wants to do something more than that? What if he decides he wants to have sexy time with my rectum or put a round in my head? So I heard him move off into the living room/kitchen area and thought man, if Im going down, Im going down fighting. So, I rolled off of the bed and did the trick my old man taught me where, if your hands are bound behind you, you go under the ass/under the knees/under the feet and your hands are in front. I ninjad my way out of it like my life depended on it, primarily because I felt it did. Now, the robber guy clearly had no experience with firearms, and I have no idea if he ever checked the magazine, but this particular firearm was a hand-me-down from my old man, and I knew that it had exactly 1 round in it. Given the low caliber of the firearm, I was willing to roll the dice against a single shot. Like I said, things like this put you in a really weird mental state. So, upon freeing myself I managed to rip one hand free from the duct tape and did a quick canvas of my bedroom for anything I could use as a weapon. My selection was a candlestick holder (like Clue lol) I have that is shaped like a pommel and hand guard of a rapier.
I had no delusions of trying to like Rambo the guy or whatever, I just wanted to get out of my unit. So I come out of the bedroom and the guy is there and points the gun at me and I knew my only option was the charge (hooah!). As I advanced on him I saw his hand flex and expected to take a round on the way in, but the weapon didnt discharge. Im not sure if he didnt rack the slide (weapon was kept magazine loaded, not chamber loaded) or just forgot to take off the safety, either way, it didnt fire. Im not sure how many times I hit him in the head with my improvised weapon, but enough to leave blood on my kitchen floor (his, not mine lol). At one point I clocked him hard enough that the gun flew out of his hand. He turned to regain control of it and I turned for the door. Now, this asshole had locked the slide chain lock thing on the door, and the chain had gotten twisted so no matter how I pulled it towards the release slot it never would reach. I was also using my left hand, as my right was reserved for my weapon. The guy comes back and hes pistol whipping me and Im hitting him (this is where my busted nose comes from).
Now, I am by no means a badass or whatever, but dudes, I beat the shit out of this guy enough that I could tell he was genuinely dazed, like he was on the verge of being knocked out (I also noticed a large bump on my head, but I didnt feel shit while all this was going on). It probably took me a full 30 seconds to finally get the chain untwisted and get the chain lock undone, which is a really, really long time while also engaging in armed combat with a gunman lol.
So, this guy crawled over the balcony from my neighbors place, and is some ex-con that neighbor guy I guess enlisted to help him move today. My neighbors are meth junkies and praise be to Allah they are moving out today. I go to the end of the hall near the stairwell and call 911, in case I need to flee. Im trying to explain to the 911 operator about the 6th floor balcony hop and she thinks Im nuts. So Im on the phone with 911 for a few minutes and the guy emerges, but not from my unit, again from the neighbors, meaning he crawled back over the 6th floor balcony. The guy flees to the opposite stairwell and I let the 911 lady know. Okay, so he had MY green duffle bag, which he had filled with my change from my change bowl (full change bowl, I might add) and other miscellaneous loot. Weird stuff too. The guy took my Vaseline and a USB game controller for PC. Who does that? He also took my school laptop, but that was recovered from the neighbors (he left it there). The cops found the duffle bag full of change at the bottom of the stairs (I guess too heavy for the dude to carry), but no guy.
So, they are there taking statements and pictures of the crime scene and asking me if I need EMSA because Im bleeding pretty badly and then they get a call that some asshat, who matches the description, is trying to break into cars. A few minutes go by and they get another call that some asshat is trying to break into townhouses on property. I do a quick inventory and figure that (with the laptop and duffle bag recovered) what I am missing is a .22 revolver, a .380 semi, and my wallet. He tried to take my .20 gauge too, but only made it to the living room with it (it was under my bed) and I think he hadnt yet gotten to searching the area where my AR-15 is before I intervened. Anyway, an hour or so passes and they dont find the guy. After the CSI guy gets done with all his photos and things and they are getting ready to leave they get a call. Apparently, he had crawled up onto one of the townhouse balconies and (get this) passed out. A neighbor who overlooked this particular townhouse happens to know the owner (who is on our Board of Directors) and called him (he was asleep inside with his wife) and he called security, and they came and got the cops. About this time I headed off to breakfast with mom, and during our wonderful dining experience I got the call from the cops that they got the guy, recovered both firearms, and most of the contents of my wallet.
When I got back the kind of main cop I was dealing with (who turns out to have gone to the same HS as me and is friends w/ my sis) is like man, I got some good news and bad news with a kind of smirk. I was like shit, how can this get any worse? He tells me the good news is they recovered my stuff, but the bad news is apparently the guy had taken all of my stuff (ID, cash, Credit Cards, etc) out of my wallet and put them in his pockets. The guy was apparently a heroin (or some drug) addict and proceeded to pass out and piss himself all over MY money. So the cop gives me rubber gloves so I can count my damp money and sign the thing saying I received it. I just got back from the police lineup (photo lineup) and two of the pics where very similar and I had a hard time choosing my assailant. The good news is, even if Im wrong that whole my ID in his pocket thing would make this tough for even Johnny Cochran to fight. The guy also has several hundred thousand dollars worth of warrants out for him.
Although it will be the DA that files the charges and that is uncertain at this point, it should be something like 1st degree burglary (thats when someone is home), armed robbery (thats where you actually encounter them), brandishing a firearm (thats when you point it at their head), attempted murder (thats where you try to shoot them, but are a dumbass that doesnt know how to work the gun), false imprisonment (thats the duct tape bit), and assault w/ a deadly weapon (for the pistol whipping bit).
Now, at the beginning of this (like anyone is still reading to here) I said I was epic winning. WTF? you might be thinking, how is this a win? It is a win for this reason: I have always been a non-confrontational fellow that is basically a nice guy and tries to de-escalate situations. I had always worried that when faced with a crisis situation, I might bitch out like the wimp from Saving Private Ryan that cowers on the stairs while his buddy is getting wasted. I now know I am down to take a candleholder to a gunfight, thinking Im probably going to get shot, and win. Believe it or not, Ive never beat the shit out of a grown man with a bludgeoning weapon in my adult life, so this was all quite new to me lol. Its not that Im courageous or any BS like that, it was just the least worst option available to me at the time. But, its really kind of given me a good feeling, in that, most of the time I look back on things in hindsight and Im always concerned with what I SHOULD have done. This is one of the few times I am reflecting and feel I reacted correctly.
I will take this opportunity, for you avid readers, to tell you I love you and I know I dont tell you often enough.
My post from Monday:
Took a personal day off work today. Got a copy of the police report and filed it with Central Park security and they wanted a copy for the homeowners association. Learned that the police had to take the guy to OSU medical center to get stitches in his head (winning) and he'll have to do a minimum of 85% of whatever his sentence is. Got to have lunch with the lovely Misty and got all my replacement bank cards and stuff processing. Busy day. Also, found the guy on the David L Moss site, which is a bonus because if one more person asked if he was black in that presumtive "i already know the answer" tone I was going to introduce them to my candlestick holder.

I learned that AFCF stands for 'After Former Conviction of a Felony' and KCSP is 'Keeping/Concealing Stolen Property.'
The burglary, 2 firearms charges, and 3k stolen property charges are from my incident - the others were 'pre-existing condition' lol
Thought I'd share - delighted to be around and post with you wonderful people
