It works so well though.........

If you make a law against killing people....and no one listens.

You should also make a law against trying to shoot someone......and no one listens.

Then you should make a law against certain types of guns......so that no one can listen.

Lastly you should make a law against all guns......so that no one can further listen.

I see a trend here and it is almost as if criminals don't adhere to following these laws or something. It's almost like you can't legislate criminal away from problems like this.

Criminals are law abiding citizens. Even calling them criminals is inappropriate as it is a derogatory term. These are actually people who are 'economically challenged' and deserve respect and understanding.

I forget that we are all in this together.

That when one person suffers we all suffer.

That when one person is hungry, regardless of why or how they are hungry, we are all hungry.

We must give up this idea of dangerous individualism and self accountability so that we can better devote ourselves and our time to the collective state.

I cant wait for the day when there is true equality where everyone is equally entitled to each others bodies (and rape would no longer exist), everyone has the same equal standard of living, the same equal house, the same equal car, equal kids with equal education, equal outcomes at sporting events (it's the experiences that count, not who wins or loses as those terms will be done away with), equal clothing.. I mean everything equal.

In such an equal society, no longer will there be some who are more equal than others.

With the new EEOC ruling, the liberals are saying exactly that.

There really isn't anything funnier than somebody shooting people in a gun free zone.

i gotta say, all you guys that have mini aresenals where gun control is lax, and constantly say we need them to fight the government, where the fuck is the fight?

at this point most of you have basically been saying for years that this country is essentially a socialist/communist/fascist utopia. could there be any more motivation to prove why you say you have your guns? if watching your beloved capitalist country turned into this horrible commie joint isn't enough motivation, what is?

what is taking y'all so damn long? stop cowering in your homes and walk the walk, you talkers!

The right is more virtuous than the left. They have twice as many virtues because they have double the standards.

actually my guns . .(or the ones that I lost in a boat accident) were to defend myself from the criminals you libs keep letting out of jail or slap on the wrist and turn loose. While the government could eventually come for everyone, those criminals are coming for people every day.

we have one of the highest incarceration rates in the world. fuckin liberals are relatively sucking at keeping people out of jail.

so you think we need more people in jail essentially.

I think that the freedoms in this country allow people to break the law and if people break laws that require them to be incarcerated then they should be incarcerated. If we dont have room in our prison system then we should be building more prisons. Of course laws can be changed to not require prison for certain nonviolent offenses, like some drug charges. I'm open to changing laws so the punishment makes sense, but if you break a law that the punishment is prison time then you should be in prison.

Would you propose something different?

Amazing how many guns have been lost due to tragic boating accidents.

i think the drug laws in this country are fuckin ridiculous and putting too many people in jail, that then give them criminal records that then make it even harder for them to get decent jobs since some, not all, can be productive. half the people i knew in my early 20's did generous amounts of drugs at any given time. they were hurting noone, and if they were caught, could have fucked up their lives for a long time.

the vast majority of them are now with good jobs and/or married with families and doing well.

i think if we weren't clogging up the system with so many bullshit cases and prisoners, there would be more resources freed up to a)deal with actual crime like property infringement and violence b)handle those cases better once in the system c)handle those cases better before deciding if they should get out of the system.

We have one of the highest incarceration rates for three reasons:

1.) Stupid laws created by conservatives and liberals.
2.) Liberal social policies that remove all motivation for self-improvement through government handouts.
3.) The vicious cycle: Liberals pretending minorities are just victims, and don't have a culture that promotes criminal activity. In the mean while, conservatives believe minorities are the underlying cause for most criminal activity and commit more resources to target these groups.

The combination is so lose - lose.

Well, except for those who get to ultimately decide what is equitable, equal and what is fair. That is such a difficult and daunting job that surely they should have bigger homes, more money, and private jets to fly around in.

Even the most perfect Utilitarian society needs leaders to lead us sycophantic supplicants.

I don't stockpile and prepare for you, Pixel.

I do it for myself (for me and mine).

We are not all in this world together.

So long as the average American believes in ghosts, thinks the world is flat, can't point to Mexico on a map, and thinks there is somehow a meaningful difference between the GOP and DNC.......I say let the stereotypical American wallow in his own filth (and debt, lethargy and obesity).

When shit finally comes to shove I might actually get a laugh or two out of watching endless hordes of mindless masses get exactly what their intellectual shortcoming has brought to them (be them self serving or well intended but idiotic).

I'm not a martyr for others......just because it is my cause doesn't mean that others subscribe to it or care about it.

Besides, I'd be forcing my will onto others by changing a moronic system, that I don't believe in, and no longer wish to subscribe to.

I'd scrap all laws everywhere.

Start anew......referencing a basis of not stealing, killing, raping, maiming others and make the code simple.

From there two decisions would be made when a crime has been committed and guilt has been conclusively established.

Is this crime capable of forgiveness? Is this individual capable of reform?

If the answer to either of those is yes.......then jail seems sensible (guidelines for duration based entirely on severity).

If the answer is no........you medically strip mine them for all that they are worth and burn the rest of their body.

This bullshit of life in prison without the possibility of parole is the most asinine and insane thing I have ever heard of in my life.

It's a waste of space, money, time (for the prisoner and the guards), and resources that could be better spent on anyone else alive today (who isn't in jail).

That's my system.......that's what I advocate for.

Fucking agreed..........
Why don't you hear that the police today in NYC accidentally shot innocent people while trying to kill this gunman?

Why haven't we heard about the 19 people that were shot in Chicago last night, 13 of which are dead & i believe 6 of the dead happened in a 30 minute span.
Oh yes, another place that guns are illegal as well.

Edit: I watched the WGN news tonight & they didn't even mention the cities 19 shootings with 13 murders last night.
Post edited by Stoneymontana at 8/25/2012 12:13:46 AM
Not that i'm defending this criminal, but why did the police shoot him again to kill him when he was clearly on the ground with his hands up & out & no longer had the weapon?
Not that i care that this guy was killed but it just seems very odd.
I watched an interview with the NYC police commissioner & he claims all the innocent people that were accidentally shot by the police,it came from bullet fragments that came off of the killer? Are you fucking kidding me?
Do they really think people would buy that?

The right is more virtuous than the left. They have twice as many virtues because they have double the standards.

i've read several major media that said 2-3 people were shot directly by the police. 6-7 from fragments.

The right is more virtuous than the left. They have twice as many virtues because they have double the standards.

New York (CNN) -- All nine people injured in Friday's shooting in front of the Empire State Building were wounded by police gunfire, New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly told reporters Saturday.
The officers unloaded a total of 16 rounds at a disgruntled former apparel designer, killing him after he shot and killed a co-worker and engaged in a gunbattle with police, authorities have said.
Authorities said an investigation is under way after one officer shot nine rounds and another shot seven. Three victims suffered gunshot wounds, while the remaining six were hit by fragments.

basically, if as reports say, the guy was raising his gun to fire at the police, they had to fire back.

i'm not sure 18 shots or more were needed to take him down though. i think the cops need better training so they react better to a shooting situation, and marksmanship skills.

it's hard to say how even with training one would react to the adrenalin and intensity of a moment in where you have to start firing in a very crowded vicinity. but training helps for the real thing, otherwise we wouldn't bother training our troops now would we, just parachute them in and say fuck it.

There's plenty of information out there that says in combat situations accuracy is terrible. I read an article a year or two ago that said the US military was averaging 250,000 rounds per insurgent killed in Afghanistan and Iraq. Granted, those were not all combat fired and we have no way of knowing if they've actually been expended. It was 50,000 rounds per kill in Vietnam. Same thing, calculated by rounds shipped to theater/confirmed kills, not taking into account other causes of death, tactics, etc... But they do say enough to tell us marksmanship is really bad in combat situations.
Hey SS, is accuracy really that bad in combat situations? Or do soldiers just like to shoot things?

i think military situations are far different than ones like this in NYC.

number one military units are using shitloads of suppressive fire and are part of long range combat where you can't always see the enemy.

this is short-range, non-suppressive fire close quarters combat, pistols already raised in a standoff.

some of the gun guys can come in here, but shooting a human sized target from about 10 feet away should not require that many shots from my thinking, and probably is the result of unpreparedness, nerves and adrenalin kicking in and creating overreaction.
