[Music] I Just Don't Believe

As 99% of you know, my family and I (mostly I...'cause it's all about me) produce a Christmas song. This year, we are doing two.

The first one is Lauren is singing about being 35 years old and still believing in Santa in spite of the fact that she's never seen him (her lyrics set to Gaga's You and I).

For the second, I went 180 degrees in the opposite direction: instead of an adult singing a pop song about believing, we have Sara (11 years old) singing a punk song about not believing.

Sara hasn't yet had a chance to record the vocals due to scheduling difficulties, so I recorded the vocals (mainly to give her an idea of what she needs to practice).

Think Green Day. And if the song doesn't make you chuckle then you are truly a Grinch.

Well, I'm guessing that the rhythm line isn't what you're interested in. The solo is a lot easier than it sounds. I'll see about putting together a tab of the solo for you.

In all seriousness, I keep hearing this sung in a Cockney accent like some street urchin. Think The Clash or something like that.

A bunch of my semi-pro musician friends are telling me this song is a winner from a sales perspective, so I'm trying to rustle up a real punk rhythm guitarist and a live drummer to redo those tracks. Oh yeah, and a singer too.

New version up. Tweaked drums, more attitude in the guitars, plus a bunch of other mixing changes that no one here would be interested in.

Yeah, Dylan did a great job capturing the spirit of the song in the vocals. He is, however, re-recording them now so that he can correct what he says are egregious flaws in the performance you heard.

Sav is attempting to get more presence in the bass and drums by tweaking those two tracks, so hopefully he'll be successful too.

Ok, final update:

Dylan is a fucking genius. Forget the re-recorded vocals. He remixed the song (in the audio engineering sense, not in the "I'm creating a club version" sense) and now it sounds fucking phenomenal.

I uploaded the finished product to CD Baby earlier. It will eventually get distributed to iTunes, Amazon Music, Rhapsody, etc. If you like what you've heard so far, you'll love the finished product. Go buy it when it appears in a day or two.

The original version was all me. The version that's on CD Baby had Dylan singing, Sav playing rhythm guitars, and George playing drums. Dylan is also responsible for the final mixing and mastering.

There are a boatload of other songs that are on my Facebook music page that were created with the help of the other individuals listed (not all at the same time).

Well, I'll warn you in advance: the 3 songs in Kind of Blue(s) are going to be next if I have any say in it. Glyn Powell is working on the vocals for these songs plus one other blues / soul piece that I've had ready for his vocals since March. After I come up with another 3-4 songs in this genre I'll be releasing an entire album.
