This day in 1941

This day in 1941 my Uncle Jim was serving in Pearl Harbor at Hickam AFB.
This man was my fathers namesake & finally my namesake.
You are missed.

He lived a full life though, as did 6 others of my family.
6 uncles & my grandfather all served in WWII.
All returned safely without significant harm.
The 5 other uncles were my grandmothers brothers.
So her husband served, & his brother served(pictured here) & her 5 brothers were serving.
Imagine having to go through that.

I wonder how many people even remember its Pearl Harbor day, "a day that will live in infamy".

God bless all those who died and served.

Some likely just aren't mentioned because it didn't effect them directly.
This is one of the most memorable days in recent times. Just like 9/11

& if you have nothing pleasant to say then don't say anything at all.

Of all people...lol
...something unpleasant about FDR economically provoking Japan into attacking at Pearl Harbor to justify entry into the war...

Yes, the economic punishment we placed on Japan hurt them to the point of building a shit load of ships and becoming a significant opponent in one of the biggest wars ever.

They did all of that with America strangling them economically. That's a perspective I've heard before from people who hate America. Maybe should have just given the oil to the Japanese for free.

They were waging the war against China with all of that shit, then we cut them off. Then they retaliate. It's that simple. Pointing out the flaws in American Government that results in sending innocent people like Stones' uncle into horrible situations or their deaths is not the actions of one who hates America. The actions of one who hates America would be actively seeking to destroy everything about America. Our current foreign policy is pursuant to that ideology.

Why do you hate America?

There's always two sides to a story. You seem to fall on the side where America has to be the bitch at all times. I got it.

It's interesting that you would side with a bunch of Imperialist butchers that were cruelly murdering Chinese by the hundreds of thousands. You ought to look into the kinds of experiments the Japs were doing to the Chinese.

I fall on the side of truth, no matter who the bad guy is. Even though I can see how they were played and manipulated into doing something dumb, I certainly don't support Japan. You, on the other hand, always fall on the side of the Federal Government. Anything/everything that they do as far as foreign policy is concerned is an angelic act in your eyes. They only ever seem to have the good of the people in mind, even when they needlessly engage in catastrophic wars. Because those hundreds of thousands of dead soldiers dying was best for the people, most of all the now dead soldiers themselves, right?

Maybe one day you will realize that the United States is run by evil people, and has been for most of it's existence.

May I add, if it was America that fucked over the Japanese, why the fuck were they invading every country around them? Please don't be stupid and say they needed bases in South East Asia to take over America.

That is the exact same thing al qaeda is doing. They say that hate America, but they are attacking everywhere. Have you noticed that or are you too busy hating America for doing something about it?

I'm sure it was recognized that Japan had ambitions. That is probably why we cut off their oil. They attacked oil rich areas and then proceeded onward with their war machine. You seem to forget that other people sometimes are trying to do the dictating. The truth I want to believe is that nobody will ever dictate to America. That is what drives my opinion on this matter. I don't give a fuck what any other country has to say. You fucking fuck with us or our affairs, you are dead.

Japan was already engaged in their own imperialistic war. A war that was supplied largely by American oil. FDR cut off their oil for the sole reasons of hampering the Japanese war effort and to provoke the Japanese to retaliate. It's also why Japan went after the Dutch oil interests in the Pacific, to replace the oil supply lost from the States.

FDR purposely caused the attack on Pearl Harbor. FDR needlessly engaged America, in the middle of the Great Depression by the way, into the biggest, bloodiest, and massive war in human history... on purpose.

I've nothing but respect for your family who endured that nonsense and I'm happy to see that they all made it back alive. I do get angry knowing that none of it ever should have happened. People need to understand that. That's why I bring it up.

Japan left us alone prior to Pearl Harbor. They wanted to avoid war with us because they didn't think they'd win. They were right. FDR wanted into the war to create American domination of the planet and to recreate the failed League of Nations. As power hungry as FDR was, he wasn't going to go to war without a declaration from Congress. His cutting off oil from Japan provoked them to retaliate, thus supplying Congress with a reason to enter the war. It was political shenanigans and never should have happened. This is one of the reasons that FDR is the second worst President in American history. He is one of four American Caesars. The others are Abe Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson, and Barrack Obama.

The result of the war was American and Soviet domination of the planet, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, The Russo-Afghan War, Al Qaeda, the Global War on Terror, and the United Nations. Of course, the Cold War was the worldwide power struggle between the two superpowers until The USSR fell apart. Now, America stands alone as the only real superpower, with China not far behind. Communist China, of course, was another result of WW2 via the Soviet Union.

Hundreds of millions of people all over the world dead, because of the idiotic power hungry ambitions of Wilson, Lenin, FDR , Hitler, Stalin, Hirohito, Mussolini, Mao and a few others.

These are the fruits of big government.

No... but we were trading with Japan just fine. They were engaged in their own business, which happened to be war in Asia, and we (FDR) decided to undermine them for political reasons. Sanctions/embargos/blockades are aggressive actions and are often considered to be aggressive acts of war.

My Grandfather and Uncle were both members of the SeaBees. They went from the Solomans all the way to Okinawa. My first wifes great uncle won the Congressional Medal of Honor posthumously in the Philippines. (Last names Woodford, look it up.) Much respect to The Greatest Generation, we are losing them at an astronomical rate these days.

They were ramping up that Navy since the Russo-Japanese war at the turn of the 20th Century......

They changed their ways and started becoming an industrialized power house ever since Cmdr. Perry helped open up Westernized trade with them in 1853.

Somehow, I have no problem with that. Sadly, I do have a problem of how we go about not being dictated to, but somehow feel the need to dictate the shit to the rest of the world.

It's ok to be selfish.....in fact that's about the only pillar that should guide our foreign policy.

When ya all get on Stones ass, it always cracks me up.

My Grandpa joined the U.S military for WW2 after the Japanese invaded his home city Manila and killed most of his family (including his parents). He was on 3 different U.S ships, 2 of which were sunk, and burned the entire length of both his arms.

Even to this day he has to wear long sleeve shirts whenever he goes out under sun because they burn if he doesn't.

66 years later he still hasn't been granted his veteran status for the war because of the racist American Government. I'm hoping that changes soon

I don't see any racism. Or is nationality now a race? Whether or not I agree it's dumb, I can't help but feel your view that it's racism is even more retarded

Oh, and by the way, its "a DATE that will live in infamy".

Shit.....I've argued about the poor integrity of a person at their own funeral, with their very own mother before.

All this immortalizing history, upholding heritage, and respecting culture garbage is nothing more than carrying dead peoples baggage.

I know damn well what someone has, or hasn't, done for this country by now (especially so after 70 years).

You don't progress as a nation by holding still, remaining silent, and sticking your own thumb up your ass......you progress as a nation from learning from your past, speaking out, and actually doing something useful with your precious time on this planet.

We lost a shit ton of great people in this war......and we are losing a shit ton more of them now. All we can do is respect their contributions, learn from their lives, and carry those lessons with us into our future.
