Does anybody even use floppy discs anymore? I mean its probably been a couple of years for me and that was doing something out of the usual with an old system and it was 3 years or so before that.

I pretty much guarantee that most of their use these days is for installing RAID drivers on Windows XP/Server 2003 boxes. And those machines are being replaced all the time.

When is the last time anyones even seen a floppy dive in a computer in a store. Im pretty sure they stopped installing them years ago.

There's one option missing.

Dissolve the EU as much as possible to limit the spread of damage.

to be honest, I find that appealing for now, the reason? it is unclear to me how it would affect me personally

Obviously there would be major shifts everywhere...imagine a situation where the US Dollar ceases to exist over night, to be replaced by 12 different currencies.

Sort of like that, not exactly, but sort of.

the second option from right to left...notice "military coup". What would this accomplish? order, discipline, long term...not much more. The cash economy there is HUGE, peeps are going all cash so as not to declare income, in order to NOT pay the increased taxes. Only way you can counter this as a gvt is going the POrtugal way...a flat fee per filing return and call it a day. That would hurt the poorest the most, the richest the least. Portugal did 550 euros, I think....it's not huge, but there is no guarantee it wont turn into a habit, 550 this month, then 480 next, then 650 on whenever...etc etc etc.

These time are as interesting as the days when NAFTA was being born, when the EU currency started 'trading', when the Berlin wall fell, and when the German Unification Master Plan was announced (move the capital etc etc).

All eyes are on Greece, chicken game is ON. First to blink pays for the broken china.

what will probably happen is the exact opposite. There will be those that say the solution is that no one government can be allowed to put all the EU at risk, therefore they need to make the EU Federal government.

yes, that is where I think federalists have been wanting for decades to take this. It goes back to the creation of the EC after WWII. There has never been political will, and this was, financial meltdown, is seen as the only way left for it it happen.

Ironically, big industrialists want it, big companies want it....the people do not. It is not a popular movement...and so...it will be a tumultuous 2012 in Europe and the USA. All security agencies have received such forecast for 2012 and budgets have been increased accordingly. More hiring is in place for riot police across Spain, for example.

Interesting times, indeed.

Pretty common in the military. We aren't allowed to use thumb drives and shit.

I guess there's a charm to shit being so obsolete, no one can hack it.
Was Greece the beginning of Western Civilisation?

All the boxes at the bottom lead to the same thing.

The Gods of Chaos and Anarchy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Merkel said no more money after this recent loan.

Bye Greece!

Do they still allow CDs or was that all stopped after the WikiLeaks incident?
You can still use CD's, but whether or not the drive will write depends on the network.

Main purpose for not allowing thumb drives and other USB devices, is that they don't want people potentially infecting the networks with stuff they've used at home.

anarchy to begin shortly, Greek gvt just announced that Greece will NOT be able to meet requirements imposed by EU in order to get bailout money (more loans)...also announced economy expected to shrink almost 6% this year alone and additional 2% in 2012.

Also, 30,000 gvt employees will get the axe.

Greece announces that it cannot fulfill the deficit required by the troika

The Papandreou Government will eliminate 30,000 posts for squaring accounts

AGENCIES / Athens

Greece will remove the squares of 30,000 civil servants this year through early retirement, which provides a saving of EUR 6,600 million as part of the austerity plan adopted by the Government.

The plan includes paying half of the salary and passing the subject a year later for all those who have 60 years. A total of 900,000 civil servants, some 43,000 are in this category, according to official data from last year

The Ministry of finance adds that the contraction of the economy will be greater than estimated, and will amount to 5.5 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2011 instead of the expected 3.8%. By 2012, contraction will be expected by 2%.

Forecasts for the deficit, which will close this year by 8.5 per cent of GDP instead of the expected 7.6% have also been corrected. In 2012, the deficit will reach 6.8% of GDP, according to new estimates.

The Ministry estimates that by 2012 there will be a primary surplus, without the obligations of repayment of the loans of € 3.2 billion, equivalent to 1.5% of GDP.

The meeting comes after a week of negotiations between the Greek authorities and the international inspectors of the so-called troika, composed of experts from the European Commission (EC), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Central Bank (ECB). The report of the heads of the troika mission will depend on the partners in the euro zone to decide on October 13 if they give Greece a stretch of 8 billion euros, needed to keep the country afloat.

The Greek Parliament must ratify these agreements Monday.
thing is...the ONLY way these underground economy countries can really collect taxes is thru a per-citizen flat fee.

Greece is hitting the property tax juice for the first time ever (?) if I read correctly...between 800 and 1500 EUR per household from now on, very year on and on.

Shit, I paid more than that in FL...but we are used to that.

why is it that Americans accept porperty taxes? most unamerican of all taxes.

U buy a property with after tax money and it is taxed again, the same value again and again and again year over year. forget double taxation...if u live in the same house for 10 years u will have been 10x taxed on it. krazy
property tax is a tool to take control of neglected property away from someone not using it.

It also puts it to people who have something you can be jealous over.

Property taxes are just a way to give local governments an excuse to raise taxes. "We think your property is worth this much. Now give us more money."

It's bullshit. There is no logical reason why a person on a 1/4 acre parcel property with a house made out of carved marble should be paying more property taxes than their neighbor living on a 1/4 acre property with a stick house.

Property taxes should not be value based, only based on size.

You are dead wrong. Property taxes discourages building and renovation, it does not encourage it.

Are you?

There are multiple scenarios where property falls into disuse or neglect. One may be property being inherited among several children who can't agree what to do.

eventually people stop paying property tax and someone picks it up for back taxes.

*sigh

have you ever paid property taxes?

if the property is abandoned, it's value goes down and you can ask for the assessment to be looked at (redeuced).

property taxes has NOTHING to do with helping dis-used or abandoned property get proper use, rehab'd or upgraded.

if anything, to the contrary, improving a property will get you more taxes as a reward.

property taxes are a vehicle to collect money to pay for services used by the community....

I submit that income taxes are a better way, to cover basic existence and then charge per usage. Fire departments, police etc etc etc. Charge the criminal for the time and expense, charge the home that suffered the fire for the firemen's time...include those fees to be paid in your insurance coverage, no bid deal.

I know one thing, taxing after-tax dollars is double taxation the first year, and multiple after that.

The neatest trick is to make people pay for the same "basic" services over and over again in eighty different ways....but never actually giving it to them.

Sure a portion of your property taxes are supposed to go toward community services (like you mentioned).

When that wasn't nearly sufficient,.....

Sure a portion of your income taxes were supposed to help further pay for it.

When that didn't work....

Sure a sales tax raise in your area....or by the state....or in my area both......was levied in order help make this all work out.

It's a really fun trick that so many people keep falling for. This is why less than 2% of my total taxes paid actually goes towards infrastructure repair in my State. Then, when I bitch about it, people profess that we need to further raise taxes.....*Pulls hair out*

It ends up this way because you can't ransom shit that nobody wants to be paying for.......

So, in return, we keep having to pay more and more money in taxes....in a million different forms.....to get a continually reduced standard of "basic services" at an exponentially higher operating cost.

It's the new American dream....we are being nickel and fuckind dimmed to death over here....whether its coming from our banks, the store, or the government drafting such idiotic policies.

/end rant

All the money going into the government should be taxed! How is possible for the government to collect money and not pay tax!

When I collect money, I pay tax!

spot on.

years ago I calculated the actual tax rate I paid for the income I earned, the wealth I had,

I was paying around 56% in taxes, including:

1. federal income t.
2. state i.t.
3. payroll taxes
4. property taxes
5. capital gains taxes
6. gasoline taxes
7. sales taxes
8. utility related taxes
9. tolls

yeah, I had fun calculating it.

it was a real eye opener, peeps. back then I was using Quicken and paying all with credit cards (then pay off @ end of month). So I would d/l expenses, the rest was easy.

when u realize that you are keeping 40-50% of what you make and YOU ARE NOT living in Norway (public health care, fully funded pensions, for example)...then u realize u r being scammed out of your money AND paying for it.

It also wouldn't be the first time that I was forced to pay a tax on a tax....... I do it all the time when buying gas.....paying dividend interest.......sales tax.....sin taxes...or even auto registration.

The government would be as rich as Wall Street (and just as over leveraged) if only they could pull off this neat trick.

I bet Bernard Madoff and Benanke could pull this off...it's about the only two people I know with the proper credentials.

Exactly........same thing I calculated.

It's might even be worse for me since I'm not married and don't have kids.

Total fucking bullshit.....

We have the worst of both systems......We have all the cost of Socialism with none of the benefits. All that money instead goes to propping up Crony Capitalism and we can't figure out how the rich keeps getting richer.

Sure requires a fancy thinking cap for that conundrum.

holy shit, of all my 3d friends, there are only 2 that think and look at things this way too.

I want to hump your calculator.

As a side note, I am looking at student loans now.

Can anyone answer me why banks dont have to pay for their own loans...we all do pay them for them banks, and professionals who cant pay their loans must endure hardships?

luckily, I have no problem making payments, but I am aware how challenging it must be to be looking at wage garnishments from student loans..from a divorced parent that pays alimony and what not...

at what point do we let the banks go, get off the hook to do their thing...and does the little guy ever get a break?

banks and politicians make the rules, break them, change them, write new ones, whatever they want, but the little guy must abide by all the original rules, the rewritten ones and the different regulations each one has.

shut up slaves!
It's already happening....

The more banks try to leverage against the very people who have money with them....the more we will see a resistance.

I'm already seeing it with Bank of America today. They implemented a $5 monthly debit card usage fee and I know three people who got their money out today and moved it over to a local credit union.

People are starting to get wise to how badly others will continue to fuck you if you simply ignore the problem and become complacent to this type of corruption.

The banking system is at the precipitous of a collapse right now and as they start to fall, or pressure others to pull their weight for them, we are going to see a push back unlike anything we have ever seen before.

Governments are ramping up for this and that's why they are implementing all sorts of new withdrawal limits. I hear this is exceptionally bad in your area right now.

The era of cheap, endless, credit....without payment.....is over.

Only now will banks and the indentured servants of banks.....begin to question and reevaluate their previous decision making.

they havent implemented withdrawal limits yet (not talking ATM's which have always had some sort of daily limit, for security).

I expect withdrawal limits at the teller any day now.

I am pretty sure France has them...pretty tight ones too.
