Internet Democracy?

Administrivia: I emailed TC some time ago to see if this was ok to post, and he never got back to me, but I think it should be. If I'm wrong, sorry.

So a while ago I was watching the Colbert Report and a representative from Americans Elect came on to publicize their website/groups movement to have an internet primary to permit any US citizen to help select a candidate that would appear on the ballot in every state. Suffice to say the idea intrigues me.

Their website (at present) is mostly a PR face, an insignificant proof of functionality for their "real political colors" breakdown, and a promise of more functionality to come. It's supposed to become a platform for candidates to make themselves known as well as a community to foster some dialogue. They say the candidate functionality is coming up in November (which makes this post a little preemptive).

I'm really curious to see
1) If their petition movement will be successful in enabling the result of their online primary to be on the ballot in every state.
2) What kind of candidate will emerge? One that appeals to the majority of views of the users of the site or one more capable of being cross platform?

But I wanted to hear your thoughts on the website, because there's a lot of interesting viewpoints here.

I saw the same segment you mentioned, and was interested in this as well.

I think they actually will be successful in getting on the ballot, but from there I have no idea how this will play out or how it will affect the actual election.

At least it will alter the Bad vs. Worse choice we've had for president the past few times, for better or worse.
