In the future, we will chop off our legs for better gas milage.

I was going to make a thread about this tomorrow and title it "I told you so."

Where we're going we won't need legs.

And it would have been a well-deserved "I told you so" moment at that. Fortunately I beat you to the punch.

There's yer problem right ther.

An american female expert convinced me I have the largest penis in the world. Does that make it true?

Just sayin.

And like I said, when this theory starts seeing the light of day and becoming a part of our daily news coverage, boom here comes the technology.

QM treats peak oil as an apocalyptic scenario. But it is a mainstream idea once you drop the Mad Max prognostications. Oil prices are rising and alternative energy prices are dropping because it's getting harder and harder to drill oil and easier to do everything else.

Eventually, they flip, and crude oil becomes confined to plastics and a variety of modern marvels that are not in the field of energy, and other sources pick up the slack for energy. But that happens over many decades. You're not going to wake up on a Tuesday to headlines of peak oil and find half the governments of the world overthrown on a Wednesday. Instead, prices just gradually become uncomfortable enough that people find other means.

In other words, I agree with your general point. Everything will be fine. But it's still probably true that Saudi Arabia has overstated their remaining reserves as well as their technological capacity to extract it. That will affect our fuel prices and their internal stability in the coming years.

According to nearly every credible forecast, we have no more than 5-10 years MAX before global oil production enters terminal decline. Please bare in mind that those are the most optimistic numbers you'll find from a credible source. If it's going to take decades (your words not mine) in order to replace oil as our main source of energy then it is impossible for us to avoid shortages and strife over the next decade.

In all honesty I expect the U.S.A. to collapse in the same way the USSR did. After that, things should be good again once we shed all our debt and people relocalize in order to adapt to new energy paradigms. I know it's difficult for Americans to accept that their country isn't invincible but I want you to know that a collapse of our current system would be a good thing that we all benefit from in the long run. What needs to happen is for us to shed all our debt and for regions to become self sufficient again. Once we have that we can have real prosperity.

What? Did you move to Spain?

By the way, I'm bookmarking this thread. If 5-10 max is extremely optimistic then your prediction has a high degree of probability of being proven true in 3 years right? I will be bumping this thread in 3 years.

No, but I did spend all of January there.

What does being proven true mean? If current trends continue then the U.S. will eventually be a failed state but to think that it will happen in three years is pretty unrealistic. The only thing that I'm comfortable stating is that we'll begin seeing oil shortages within the next 3-5 years.

How does this equate into your prediction?

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/02/10/new-drilling-method-opens-vast-oil-fields/#

"This new drilling is expected to raise U.S. production by at least 20 percent over the next five years."
