i5 or i7?

Not sure if any of you are as 'tech-savy' as myself... but if you are... just wanted your opinion on i5 vs i7.
I'm looking into buying a new pc. Keep in mind that it will be used for more than just gaming. Being a programmer analyst, I have to run applications like Visual Studio 2008, Netbeans, VMWare, MySQL Server, Emulators, and sometimes variations of above.

Did you just tell us how tech-savy you are, and then ask us for our opinions on tech? Fail.

personally I like the M series better then the I series. Although the M series is more sports tuned, the cars look better as well. Just don't wear leather jackets while driving one,.. you can afford the car, you can afford the jacket but can't figure out how to use the climate controls. Fail.

How the hell would I know, I'm still using my pentium 4 from 2003. It barely plays warcraft


But after thinking about it for 3 seconds, assuming that because the pentium 4 is better than the pentium 3, which was better than the pentium 2, and the athlon 64 is better than the athlon 32, I will go out on a limb and say the i7 is better than the i5.

Where can I sign up to be a programmer analyst?

If you have the cash to burn... get the i7... it'll make your rig last about 6months longer before you'll want to upgrade to the next gen CPU.

What're they now? $300 bucks or so?


Hell... I should upgrade my rig... it's been 3 years.
but all I do on it is play World of Warcraft... and lookit pr0n.

My workstation here at the pharmacy is a dinosaur... It's a 2.2 Ghz Celeron... running Windows 2000... but y'know what?
It prints pharmacy labels all day (and let's me access the web)
I mean... I got the workstation (no speakers), can't watch TV back here by law (so I won't entertain myself too much, I got tons of drugs back here...
What more do I really need here? Amirite?

Actually, I'm not a programmer analyst so you are incorrect. (I switched to Sales in 2005.) I simply know that there are others here that do have that position or something similar in nature.

BTW, it is a scientific fact that ppl who have usernames based on cartoons, books and video games are prone to having less than desirable intelligence, or "savy" as you like to call it. (and its spelled savvy, with a double v, for future reference)

It's not that. It's that he comes in here like he is teh sh1t when in fact the reason why I'm no longer a programmer analyst is because they are commodities. There's no value in them at all anymore, which is also why their salaries suck.

Furthermore, I know for a fact that there are some really smart techies in here, and his statement insults them. I don't take that crap lightly.
