So Lauren constantly bitches about the cost of living in Great Neck, NY especially how so much money gets you so little living space.

This is why. Bearing in mind the cost of living in the NYC metropolitan area is higher than most of the U.S., Great Neck South (high school) was ranked 49 in the nation.

nice

my highschool ranked 415
9 Oxford Academy Cypress Calif. 6.784 16.8 100

OMG ONE IS LOCATED INSIDE OF CYPRESS!
nice.. Mepham, here in Bellmore, 331st...

.

Here's what's interesting with the results-

Take a look at the top 50. Almost all are non-traditional schools. They're either private, college prep, or honors academys.

I grew up in the next town over from the Oxford Academy. It's by invitation only. I think they only accept like 20 or 30 people each year.
Two that aren't though are Jericho, NY and Great Neck South, NY. Both are public schools, but the cost to live within their school districts is relatively higher. This is why both areas also have a high Asian component: Asian parents, especially first generation, place high quality education for their children as the top priority in life.

QFT.

Long Island in general, has some of the best schools I've seen. My children have attended public schools in FL and now NY, and there is NO comparison between the 2. Far superior here. Teachers make probably 2-3x what they do in FL, you pay 2-3x more in property taxes, but it shows.

Our current school district has 6 elementaries in a relatively small area - there is no bus service as everyone pretty much lives in walking distance to an elementary. 300-350 kids in their school (k-6), about 17-18 per class.

.

My highschool was 1102. But I guess thats not too shabby considering the hundreds of thousands of schools in the nation.
The high school in my area is ranked 1309.

who cares. My school in the 90's was in the top 100 on something like this. Now I can't find it? I pulled up 3 of the top rated schools in my city and 2 were not even listed. I don't have a lot of faith in that list

So uh... did you and Q attend the same school? It is my impression that you are always on the short end of the stick.

Demographics change a lot.

The school in the town I work was once considered a charter school... Reagan had visited this high school in the '80s because of it's spectacular performance.

Neighborhood's changed a lot.
I went to the best non-specialized public school in Los Angeles, ranked 1,300

When I went to High School, SC was 49th in the nation and our county was bottom in the state. In other words, I didn't get a good education from the school system. I ended up teaching myself a lot of stuff by reading books in the library.

By the way, that #1309 school isn't the school either of us went to.

*sighs*

I know. I was too embarrassed to say the school we went to wasn't even listed.
