Blizzard is officially aquiring the Diablo 3 Domain name

took nearly ten years for Blizzard to announce the sequel to the popular StarCraft. Could the long-rumored sequel to the equally well-regarded Diablo also be in the offing?
Diablo3.com and I-Mockery.com owner Roger "Mockery" Barr recently announced that Blizzard had contacted him about acquiring their domain name. Blizzard appreciated the site's contributions to the Diablo fan community, Barr said, but Blizzard still wanted the domain. He also said that the site wasn't going anywhere, but would be soon changing its name to Diablofans.com.

In acquiring the domain from Barr, Blizzard cautioned that their interest in the domain name shouldn't be considered an announcement for Diablo 3. "They acquire new domains all the time," Barr said. However, he went on to say that he didn't think that Blizzard was merely protecting its intellectual properties, and that he believed that Diablo 3 was now in development.

This site has been up and running for awhile. Blizzard wouldn't aquire the domain name unless they were putting the wheels in motion for their announcement of diablo 3 sometime in the future.

That's awesome. I lived on Diablo 2 with all of my friends for about 2 years.

Warcraft was always a separate universe from Diablo.

If there was a way for all three candidates to lose this November, please tell me which box to check.

Definitely interesting, but I don't see them really doing anything for at least 3+ years and even then I would be surprised if they launched a beta within the next 5.

At least that's what I hope because I'll be out of school by then =P hah!


To be honest the fantasy genre is getting tiresome. Bring me the sci-fi action! Hoping Stargate Worlds will be worthy of it's increddible potential.

Anyone who has played WoW will tell you there are many diablo influences & references.

But that is what Buzz means, the game World of Warcraft. Not the Warcraft universe as a whole.

I really hope it isn't MMORPG.

Well it definately isn't going to be an FPS.

I've been waiting for StarCraft to come out, for like 6 years, i've even seen screenshots, but where is the game? Blizzard needs to get off their WoW asses and start making some sequels.

Diablo 3 at one point was almost completely done. After a bunch of founders left and blizzard north was removed they got rid of almost the entire project because it wasn't up to snuff. I wouldn't doubt it being close to finished. At this point it's all about the marketing and business guys staggering releases to not conflict with WOW expansions and Starcraft 2.

I can still hear the original Diablo music in my head.
