Do you Eat or Drink a Soup?

I am having a convo with a friend and I mentioned how I finished eating a soup...and she thinks the right way to say it is "drinking a soup". She a crazy bitch! WTF

How do you take in your soup?

Regardless if it's all liquid or if it has actual meat & vegetables...I would say eat. @_@

I would concur.

If you use a spoon then you are eating.

If you put your mouth to the bowl then you are drinking.

eating, anything else is lame

I drink my cup of coffee in the morning, not eat it.

So soup, as a food, not a beverage, is to be eaten.

Tomato soup in a coffee cup would be drinking, no?

Ramen Noodle Soup isn't soup. It's more on the pasta side. So therefore you eat it.

Solve this dilemma by correcting yourself.

"You are having soup."

"You had soup."

"You finished having soup."

This does not imply that you ate or drank the soup, but rather you had the soup.

Problem solved.

Wow that can work for anything...

So what if someone says: "What did you eat for lunch?"

"Ohhh I had soup"...that still implies you ATE the soup.

Than again that person could also have said "What did you have for lunch".

I get the campell soups that you can drink after you heat it up from the lid. Yummy

If you are eating Ramen then you are not eating or drinking a soup at all.

You would be eating noodles in that case.

Depends on the soup.

If it's Campbell's Chunky Beef Stew, you're eating it.

Campbell's Chunky Soup... the soup that eats like a meal!

back to topic. i would say it does depend on the consistancy of the soup. Chunky veg = eat

I think this completely depends on the context.

If I'm eating soup out of a bowl with a spoon, then I am eating the soup.

If I've finished all of the goods (other than the broth), and I start to drink it from the bowl, then I am drinking the soup.

agreed. i do both lol, start out with the spoon and near the end drink it straight from the bowl.
