I need some suggestions is the IPOD touch worth it?
My old mp3 player died recently.

I have an 8GB Sandisk Sansa e280 that I'm very pleased with. Cheaper then the nano plus you can drag and drop to it. User interface is just as good as the iPod's too I think.
Abaques, check out RockBox. Some sweet 3rd party firmware.

For the iPod? Bah! I'd just as soon spend less money on the Sandisk. Its just as good as far as I'm concerned.
Creative Zen Vision M 30gig, get one.
the ipod touch would be neat since you can surf the web on its wifi shiz too
I went to the apple store and played with the touch the other day. It was cool seemed unresponsive and slow at times, but it was really net. The only thing i didnt liek was there no controls on the exterior besides the home button. So you can change songs or volume while its in your pocket or your browsing the web.
I got a 30GB Zune (hey, it was the display model, and I got it cheap!)

I love it. Plays mp3's, video, has a am/fm tuner built in, etc.

80gig ipod classic, no brainer. You can't beat its battery life & for the price you can't beat the hd space.

As far as the ipod touch, i had that much space used on my ipod classic within the first week.
I guess it depends on what you wanna put on your player.
Me, i have every cd i own on mine. Some people don't put everything on it i guess.

Scandisk Sansa is the way to go. Easy to use and I use it with Rhapsody. You can DL on it as much as you like but you just cant burn the mp3's. So you can get all kinds of stuff for just under 10 a month. Well worth it!
The Zen is money. Sandisk shit always breaks.

Zune is a great player! But for some reason the new software is a piece of shit. Any other people having problems with it?
I love my Sony but their Altrec format is going BYE BYE I just read.
the zen vision M series has been discontinued.

good luck finding one new at a reasonable price.

Its a refurb tho, great price.
I hate my Sony mp3 player. It makes a loud beeping noise every time I change the track or artist..

There is no way to disable it.

STAY AWAY FROM SONY!

Did the resale price of my used device just go up because they stopped selling them?

Zune or Ipod classic if you have a lot of music.

I only put a few hundred or a thousand songs on my players so I bought a touch...very very cool little player. I love the wifi and just the design.

Bought a Zune, 30gb, from buy.com, picked up 2 of them for $99 each, giving one as a Christmas gift..

Not true drag-n-drop, which I would have preferred, but the Zune software is nice, kinda like ITunes.. Was able to sync 4K songs and 2K pictures and I'm maybe 50%.

Can encode avi's to wmv format and watch tv/movies on it too, so far so good...

But for 30gb you can't go wrong, and it plays vids, does slide shows on pics, and will connect to my network at home wirelessly....

.

512MB RCA mp3 player ftw.

and it was $20 and came with a 15 song/month for a year subscription to emusic, which by itself would have been $60.

Looks like it was a better investment than I thought.

With the way our market has been lately....it could very well be the best investment opportunity in the country right now.

When did buying mp3 players for personal use become an investment?

Its not an investment yet... but just wait till new MP3 players come out with copy restriction software and all this new shit to make you buy music, then you may very well be able to sell a zen for more than you bought it for

There's always going to be a way around restriction software for music or movies.

Yea if you don't mind spending hours converting your hardware and/or software, then updating and finding out you need a new way around their patches.

There is nothing on this planet that isn't already hacked cracked & bypassed very easily.
It will never happen. Maybe for the 1st couple weeks TOPS it would be difficult but after that it's all gravy.

Windows Vista was once declared to be uncrackable......Hell, Bill Gates spent millions upon millions to help ensure that.

http://apcmag.com/node/4735

Obviously that is a very old article…there are now cracked versions all over the internet.

So while I give them some credit for holding back the flood gates of relentless hackers, for more time than they did with XP (which was cracked instantly), Microsoft still has to ask themselves whether the anti-piracy money they have spent was really worth it in the long run.

I agree with you that there will always be an exploit…The only question is whether or not the majority of its users are going to be willing to go through all those hoops to obtain that product.
Software and hardware are two very different stories when it comes to avoiding protections.

Look at the Xbox 360s, there are always large rounds passing the banhammer as players come out with new software mods, microsoft comes out with new ways to detect and disable them. There is only so much you can do with a piece of hardware which updates itself before your mods become obsolete.
Ahh, all you would have to do is not update your mp3 player, pretty simple isn't it?
Just because you choose to use a program that updates your equipment doesn't mean you have to.
I'm sorry but there isn't anything on this earth that isn't hacked.

Sure, if you don't mind owning a 400$ blinking red light on a box.

Hahha.....

It is usually assumed that they are to be installed by someone who has actually handled a soldering iron before.

I think that is one of the many factors that contribute to their horrible success rate.....

I refer to the horrible records of the X-bricks, they often break down, and if you have opened up your X-box to modify it you just voided the warranty, effectively you're fucked if it breaks, no free repairs.
I bought a 5 gb RCA mp3 player at Ace Hardware, of all places, last December for $69. It's silver, ugly as sin, but no one will ever steal it, it's the size of a cell phone, weighs MAYBE 4 ounces, and the sound, with the included ear buds, is absolutely fantastic. Best of all, the screen doesn't go screwy like the ipod's if you drop it. It came with some free music download offer but I never used that.
