Any job recruiters in the crowd? (need help)

So, today I learned that as of January first I will be out of a job.

To summarize, my Hospital affiliated with a larger healthcare entity. Our IT department was integrated with their corporate IT department, everything for us was cool. Anyone who was losing a job (not many, mostly just administrative staff), were notified 6 months or more ago......well as part of the affiliation, they naturally have been doing a review of finances, payroll, etc etc etc. Last month, they (company we merged with) uncovered that my Hospital had been improperly billing patients for years, decades even. They had to immediately stop, and are now making $40,000 a month less than before, so naturally their budget for next year is screwed.

Basically, they pushed the panic button and did the one sure fire thing that would get them that money back right away, FIRE SALE!!!

So 2 of our IT staff had to be axed, and I was one of the 2.

Anyone who is or knows a job recruiter, hook a brother up. I'm in the Albany New York area, and have 4-5 years in IT, systems and network administration.

My resume is ready and on standby

This is the first time I've ever lost a job, this was emotion completely foreign to me. This sucks
Bummer man. Good luck in your search.

Personally I would recommend checking out any colleges near you to see if they have open IT positions. The pay usually isn't quite as nice, but the benefits are usually tip-top and from my experience most colleges try not to fire people during budget crunches. At least the one I work at is trying to avoid it during our budget crunch.
Hotniks, you should teach me IT stuff and we can go into business together. We'll be like superheroes, except cooler.

And except for the superhero part

I'd be happy to teach, just need a job first!
5 years experience and you're one of two to get axed...You must have had a good job if 5 years experience doesn't give you enough seniority to be out of the bottom 1-2.

Sorry to hear you're losing your job. I like to think everything happens for a reason...shit you may find a job you enjoy a whole hell of a lot more, you never know.

Thanks. Yeah, tomorrow I'm going to contact the college I graduated from, they had a good career development department. They actually helped me get my first job before I graduated.
I may know someone, my cousin, who is into IT and actually is being relocated to Florida. I'll talk to him eventually and ask if his company is still looking.

He was going to try to get me in, but his boss didn't have the time to teach new people haha.
What location are you in, I might no of some openings depending on your area..though I'm not a recruiter by trade.

.

Sorry to hear it Hotniks, good luck in the job search.
Go to Monster, DICE.Com, Careerbuilder, the works. You'll get calls, but it'll probably be contract work. Take it, it's better than nothing.

Yeah, I've hit Monster hard tonight. Found about 5 local openings I applied to. I've actually had my resume up there for awhile anyway and have gotten a number of calls. Nothing has panned out quite yet. I'll gladly take contract work.

Highly doubtful, it's not supposed to be common knowledge, they're quietly "handling it". Yeah, it's shitty alright.
what certs do you have?
i work for an IT recruiting company (though hopefully not for long)

drop me a line.

also, are you interested in relocating or only looking for jobs local to Albany. Also, we pretty much only recruit for contract work, though we do have many assignments that are 1 year and ongoing with constant renewals each year.

The right is more virtuous than the left. They have twice as many virtues because they have double the standards.

if contract work represents all your current opportunities, you could try IT jobs with the Federal or state government.

a quick google search netted a result or two:

here's one list for U.S. Federal jobs in Albany in the information technology area.

Sorry to hear about getting cut. I hope these lists help you.
Sorry to hear about your sucky situation, Hotniks. Don't understand how a company can sack you because they've been caught defrauding their clients. Good luck with your search for a new job

UNITED STATES ARMY
I lost my job this summer and had a bitch of time finding work.

Out of desperation, I submitted my resume to Robert Half. Within 7 days I was on site working a three month temp to perm.

Three weeks into that contract, it worked out so well I was offered a position and am now making 25% more than I was at my last job.

Nothing but good things to say about those folks.

Edit - they're traditionally a finance company but they're one of the biggest at what they do... and they have an IT division... can't hurt.

Unfortunately I cannot relocate right now, my wife works locally as well, she is a teacher and cannot leave mid-year. So the Albany area is the best I can do right now. That said, if I have to commute a hella distance, I'm willing.

I will drop you a line at your email addy this morning, thanks. ****EDIT**** Just emailed you man.

I've already hit the State jobs site (I was a state employee before this current job). I did not know about the Federal site though, so I'll check that out today too. Thanks

Email me your resume. I'm not guaranteeing anything, but I may be able to help.

By the way: networking > recruiters . This is always true since a personal endorsement will go a lot longer than the opinion of someone who is in it for their commission.

I hear ya on the networking thing. I've reached out to a number of people I know in the IT community and they've also made some calls for me. I'm exploring every option possible.

Just sent ya an email, Thanks.
Send me your phone number as well. Lauren, my daughter Sara and I are leaving to visit my parents tonight for the rest of the week + weekend, but I'll review your resume and possibly call for clarification after I return.

Thanks, just replied

Working on those pesky CBT courses for my MCSA/MCSE all morning.
Well, just to provide a quick update...

I ended up getting 3 offers on the table (and I may get a 4th actually soon).

I've made my choice and will begin work at the new job January 2nd. It's a Network Administrator position with a local IT consulting company. We provide IT services and solutions for small to medium size companies in the area who don't have full time IT professionals on staff.

Thanks to those who offered help, Puddin, Questor, etc.
Congrats!
