Hello all-

Your friendly neighborhood tree-hugger here, reminding you to vote on 11-05-02. Voting is a privelege and duty to those of us lucky enough to live in a great nation like the United States.

Peace,

I voted early, as Ill be out of town tomorrow. No way I was gonna miss putting my 2 cents in.

Florida is gonna get ugly. I imagine the voting process will give us yet another black eye. We never fixed the crap that went wrong in 2000.

I'm not voting, WHOS WITH ME?
Damn straight I'll vote. And in case I suffer from a sudden memory lapse, I have here 5 letters from 3 different candidates (go ahead and try the math) telling me how to vote. No, literally, HOW to vote. Not just "Vote for me!" but describing how. Oh how I wish I didn't live in Florida...

BTW, Bill McBride, stop calling my fvcking house you nutsack! I've received 11 (ELEVEN) taped message calls from Bill McBride saying "Don't believe the negative add tactics my opponent throws at me. I won't raise taxes like he says I will..." blah. OK, look Billy, I don't care if I agree with everything you stand for and your opponent eats small children for snacks, I'm voting against you on principle! Ass.

I've also received 2 from Martin Sheen telling me how to vote. I love this whole idea of Hollywood stars 'getting out the vote'. We're going to trust Hollywood, with its long-standing tradition of excellence in morality, to tell us how to vote. Right.

Not a problem. Even though you aren't a citizen, I'm sure you can find any number of Democrat registration offices that'd be willing to register you to vote. Even better if your a convicted felon.

I'd try Florida first ;p

heheh..
Cant argue there.. Florida really is a sad place in the already pathetic world of politics.
Im no McBride fan, but I would rather vote for a pile of horse dung than G.W. Bush's retarded little brother.

Im damned if I do, and Damned if I dont..

The ballot box stuffing is about to reach full flurry. Ham-n-eggs, We may differ in our political philosophy, (probably less than most would think), but I think we do agree that Florida politics is about as bad as it can get.

On the ballot, you'll see about a dozen items to vote to keep judges in office or remove them.. I voted all of them out. I just want a whole new crowd.. I doubt it could get much worse than it is now.
Not all states have a law that convicted felons can't vote. Florida does, but as phierce pointed out, it's not enforced very well.

And Florida... bleh. Let me go on a tangent here. Our governor candidates suck. I just saw yet another commercial by McBride that said "I'm in favor of reducing class size. Jeb Bush isn't."

Well come on, what, do you think he's 'in favor' of sticking all of FL's students in one big classroom with one teacher? What, it'd cut down on teacher funding sure 'nuff!

No, but here's the problem. Jeb said something very similar to this when he ran vs. Childs, and won. As I recall, the teacher's union supported Jeb then,a nd they support McBride now. NEITHER ONE of them has the power to 'make class sizes smaller', and neither one should have said that. Who cares what you're in favor of? I care what you'll do.

Now, I won't vote for McBride. I disagree with almost every one of his stances on the moral issues. Jeb, however, is the proverbial 'dumb younger brother'. I voted for him the first time, and will this time because I think he's the lesser of two evils, but he's done some really stupid things since he got in. Most importantly, his changes in education, and those of his administration. He seems to think that knowledge is a direct result of good test results, rather than the other way around. He wants to live up to the reputation his big brother set in TX, and he's going about it all the wrong ways.

SO, I'm left with no good candidate to choose from. Like I said, I'll go with the lesser of two evils. I disagree with McBride on everything, but I think Jeb is about as smart as his first name would lead you to believe he is.
As far as voting out incumbents... yea right. Florida has some of the worst "good ol' boy" groups I've ever seen. We can't get anything fixed out here in DeSoto. =/ But then, this is cow country, too.
The incumbents have got to go. My advice to you-two things:
1. Support a third party
2. Support Instant Runoff Voting

Don't know what that is? go to http://www.fairvote.org IRV is a really great idea, that could help America become more democratic, and eliminate the "Both candidates suck" problem.

Remember Floridians, vote no on Ammendment 9.

Our schools don't suck our children are just stupid.

Vote no goddamnit.

If it passes I'm transferring out of state.

Vote no

goddamnit
What third party am I going to vote for? With all respect to you sekzee hippy greeny bitches... most third party groups are radicals. More importantly, in a close election like this one, I would rather my 1 vote go to who I think is the - and I use this word lightly - 'better', candidate, of the two that have a chance. If things weren't so tight, I would believe it more important to make someone else's name known for future election.

I agree with the libertarians in many issues, and at times I've agreed with you hippies. I think was a group of Greens that kept the Red River Gorge up in Kentucky from getting flooded about 6 years back, as I recall (could be wrong). For that, I will love you all forever.

And really, the bi-partisan system is good in some aspects. Most people in our country seem to hold mostly to either the conservative or liberal beliefs. Knowing that, for the most part, republicans are conservative and democrats are liberals, it makes it easier for people who don't want to take the time to learn about the candidates, to know who to vote for.

The problem here is obvious: it's easy to deceive. And that is not cool. It's sort of a tradeoff. We have a large population, we can no longer vote by gathering together and yelling "Aye" or "Nay". Similarily, we don't all know our politicians on a personal level, and the politicians make politics their job (whereas politics use to be a voluntary job for the most part). Smaller government = good thing. Less deception.

Oh, and I'm reading about IRV right now, I hadn't heard of it before.
Good lord, here in Texas I have heard nothing but CRAP spewing from both canidates for Gov. and almost every other office that I almost dont want to vote just so I can say I didn't vote either in...Man I wish just once I could feel happy about going to the polls because there is someone I KNOW I want to win. Almost every election I have ever voted for was 'oh well, this guy seems a little LESS like a scumbag than that other scumbag'
This Greeny Bitch wubs you! And wants to be wubbed back by getting your sexy votes!

I'm with ya there. Its sorta like picking the lesser of two evils and quite frankly I'm tired of Bush...I'm kinda partial to the Amendment for cruelty to pigs...yeah...its for real.
