2 more teams needed - plus a few teams (mine included) that need to fill their rosters
I'm not seeing a rule set anywhere? Are they posted somewhere?
http://www.teamwarfare.com/rules.asp?set=BF3%3A+NA+League+

What I don't know is how is it decided who is the attacker and who is the defender?

May I suggest we postpone this tournament for another week, there are nearly a half dozen teams that don't have rosters of 4.
^^^ +1 Anyone else from the 4v4 Tank Superiority Tournament agree? I think with more time we can get the teams full and maybe even more teams.
Post edited by ZientMazza at 10/12/2012 1:04:23 PM
I think that is a good idea. I will send an email to team founders and push these dates 1 week.

Get your strats down, gentlemen, and good luck!

This may never come to light cause it's probably not a good idea, but is the Mobile Arty allowed?

Alright, I signed up my group. A few quick questions that I imagine everyone else has as well.

1.) I tried entering my BF3 id, but both my unique identifier from the Battlelog URL nor my name was accepted as a valid ID. How do I determine what my BF3 id is? Other players have what appears to be a hex number?

3.) What is the role of PBGUID, and is it different from above?

3.) What is UAC and where do I get it, what do I do with it? I saw a field somehwere about typing in a UAC user number or something like that, how do I generate that number? (and is it different from above)

4.) Do all my team have to make profiles to sign up here, or can I add them myself if they give me their various ID numbers?

5.) I clicked the link to the rules, the current link to rules reaches some sort of placeholder page that says at the top "BF3: NA League" instead of where it should say Tank Superiority Tournament.

6.) Many of us signing up today were getting 404 errors for the registration.

7.) Can an alternate join if one person's connection cuts out mid match?

8.) Why does the first post say no air vehicles and why did venomous ask about Mobile Artillery....? This is standard Tank Superiority right? It doesn't have air nor Artillery on any map......

9.) Will there be a TWL provided server(s) since these matches will all happen in such quick succession?

10.) What is the suggested time window (time of day) for arranging these matches, and is it at least reasonable for European players? Who determines what times the matches are held?

Hi, some of the answers for the first few questions (1-3)can be found in the ladder rules PBGUID & UAC etc
http://www.teamwarfare.com/rules.asp?set=BF3%3A+NA+Ladders

Q4 - Your team mates should just be able to click your team name and click the "join" button. If they are not registered with TWL they will need to follow steps 1-3 as above.

Q5 - Look on that link under the heading "game play basics" and there is a little bit og info about the 4v4 Tank Tournament

Q6 - Sorry, don't know the reason for this - I can ask someone higher up than me (Greeneyed?)

Q7 - If a player should be disconnected during live play, he may immediately rejoin the server if possible. If he is unable to, then a legally rostered player is allowed to join in order to take his place. Live play does not stop during this time.
Substitutes may be brought into the server between rounds provided they do so in a timely manner and are legally rostered.

Q8 - No aircraft - it's a Tank Tournament. Will need to check about artillery

Q9 - Greeneyed will need to answer this one. However if i'm not using my server i'm happy for it to be used by someone without one - it has the 4v4 specs ready to load.

Q10 - I believe it's up to the 2 team Founders/captains to arrange a mutual time, but the match must be played on that day as the next round for the winners is the next day.

I may not have answered all your questions, but I hope most have answers.
Q6 - It happens. If you are having issues with the site, please see this section: http://teamwarfare.com/forums/forumdisplay.asp?ForumID=19

Q9 - If neither team can provide a server for a match, hit us with an email or in IRC ASAP. We will have the TWL servers set up with the maps and configs in case someone needs them.

Q10 - This is between Team Caps, just has to be played by 11:59 EST the day of that match. Please use your match comms for all communication between teams.

We will set the Tournament to Live today.

I just read the entire FAQ page you linked to with no success on the following questions I originally asked. If such info does exist in the FAQ please copy and paste it here in the forum. I'm bet some others are having the same confusion. I've never done any of this before so I probably have the most questions.

Q1 - I see only one reference to the BF3 GUID listed in the entire FAQ you linked me to, and all it says is that BF3 GUIDs are used for stats only, but does not mention how to determine one's own BF3 GUID?

Q2 - The FAQ does not mention where to find my own Punkbuster GUID. I obviously have punkbuster installed, updated, and functioning, but I have no idea where to find or how to generate my PB GUID.

Q3 - I found the download link for UAC and downloaded set it up, but your instructions say to add a "match ID" but that is specific to a ladder and not a tourney? Do tourneys have their own match IDs and if so where are those listed? (Also under schedule for this tourney it says the tourney ends today so that might be causing the problem)

Q3.5 - I set up UAC, but how will UAC know what my BF3 username is? It never asked me to enter it at any step of the way? Is it merely IP based?

Q8 - My point is none of the Tank Superiority maps have Mobile Artillery nor any air vehicles. I'm not sure why it's even mentioned or discussed, and I was just asking to make sure that we're actually playing the tank superiority game mode.

Q10 - What are "match comms" you refer to?

I have a bunch more questions, but the answers to these might help me figure them out.

Here is a great place to find info: Consolidated Sticky

In there is this link: A note from AC re-guarding GUIDs

Method 2 (Only works if you are a registered member of PBBans):
  • Join any PB enabled server that streams to the PBBans index (if you've played the game at all you have most likely already done this). You can find one close to you through the PBBans MSi Server Locator.
  • Obtain your external IP address. The easiest way to do this is to google "my ip address"
  • Go to the PBBans Master Player Index
  • Enter your IP address as the Search Data, and select "User IP" in the Search By drop-down menu. Perform the search.
  • Click on the GUID listed under BF3 and verify through the alias used that it belongs to you.

And there is this link: How to Obtain Your UACID
SixShotSean
Can anyone please just answer the questions directly? Giant lists of old indexed threads about unrelated ladder rules and policies, and in some cases BC2 rules and changes and such aren't helpful.

Can't all relevant information about this tournament please show up in this thread, or at least the related links for this tournament itself?

Also, half of the teams still don't have complete rosters, and I don't see anyone with a correct BF3 GUID in their profile. Is it even necessary?

I've already spent 4 hours trying to sign up for this in the last day, and I don't understand why everything is so disjointed and chaotic. It really shouldn't be this hard.
By the way I've been linked multiple times to this: (The MSi Master Streaming index) http://www.pbbans.com/msi-server-locator-bf3-41.html And I'm not sure if anyone clicked that, but it just gives you the following error:

Master Streaming Index - Server Locator

You must have a forum status of Streaming Game Admin status or higher

I used those forums this year to sign up and was really fast and easy for me to do but let me try and stream line.

- Each of your team mates must setup an account on the TWL forum.

- They also must go to http://www.uac.ac and download the UAC3 software. The DOWNLOAD button is huge and impossible to miss. Once that is installed, run it, and it will prompt you to create an account with UAC. Yes another account sorry but its one time and your almost done.

- Then once you have the account setup you run the UAC software again. Click play and there is a 14 second timer while they ask for donations. That ends and becomes the OK button. Then you are at the last window, you only need the number at the bottom right (in size 10 font)it is a 6 digit number. You will add this to your TWL account.

- To add this to your TWL account you sign in. Then from the main screen select: urUserName -> Profile -> add another id -> [From the drop down] "UACID" [Enter the 6 digit number you got from the UAC software]

Then all you need is the last 8 digits of your GUID which I'm sure you know all the ways to get.
- Then urUserName -> Profile -> add another id ->[From drop down] "Battlefield 3 PB GUID" [Enter the last 8 hex numbers of your GUID]

- Done! Maybe 10mins.

Since this is a "tournament" rather than a "league" or "ladder", are non NA players allowed to participate?
^^^ I would hope so. I don't see the issue since its 99% tanks. But also we need to fill some teams. Some of the teams hurting for players should combine. Don't just not play.
No, the rules for leagues and ladders don't apply to tournaments, obviously. These are separate things for separate competitions. Europeans are free to play in it.

P.S. Mazza... THANK YOU!!! I will try those steps when I get back

You must have a streaming account set up with PBBans in order to get your server streaming. Having a PBBans streaming server is required to use your server.

Match comms are now active, get your matches scheduled with your opponents.

Any official confirmation for that?
We have not removed non-NA teams from the Tournament. We still have quite a few non-NA players in the armor ladder and they have not had an issue with ping in their tank matches.

Yes, you can have infantry in the tournament, but due to the amount of armor being used we did not feel that it should be an issue.

We will keep an eye on it, but will hope that the luck they have with ping in the armor ladder continues in this tournament.

A few of my friends trying to join my team are getting the constant 404 error that I got Wednesday during the account creation process. I told them I just had to click it many dozen times and finally it will load.

Anyways, when is the deadline for people to join my team?

Also, I've never set up PB streaming before, so is is reasonable for us to use a TWL server of some sort?

The reason I asked the question about PBBans Master index is because I can't even get my PB GUID without having a functioning server? Do all my teammates need to be server admins in order to participate? There's no way for us to determine our own PB GUID?

You meantion "Match Comms" ... what is that?
Post edited by J0hn-Stuart-Mill at 10/19/2012 6:47:30 PM
Also, there is still confusion, on the front page of TWL, this is linked to: http://www.teamwarfare.com/forums/showthread.asp?forumid=117&threadid=483986

It says the tournament ended yesterday.
See the original post on this thread.

Yes we have servers available to use.

Everyone must be on your team 24 hours before first match.

Get everyone's UAC ID going first because you must have UAC running for any match. To get your PB GUID go to the server below:

http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/servers/show/b94079ae-ecec-4c0e-b0d0-955ab5e2412d/VX9-64-AK-All-Day/

and type in chat:

@myguid [full]

enter the last 8 characters of that number into your profile under "Battlefield 3 PB GUID"

Match comms are what you have open when you click the "Admin Panel" in your teams page for the Tournament.

Ok, yea, we missed the deadline then. I wish the PB GUID instruction had been posted before we were disqualified.

Oh well.

How do I delete my team?

We'd have done pretty well too, we have 340 armor stars between our 4 starters. Most of the teams have less than 50.

My suggestion would be to make a comprehensive set of instructions of how to sign up for each separate event, and not assume that people are veteran TWL users and know the answers already. Mazza did help me figure out the UAC GUID, but the other two requirements still have not been addressed in this thread.

It's really no surprise that TWL has such low participation. I know you guys are non profit and just trying to foster a fun environment, but it can be really frustrating to be directed to irrelevant rules from Bad Company 2 Rush Ladder competitions for a BF3 Tank Superiority tournament.

I was directed to more than 100,000 words worth of old posts containing rules, regulations, and sign up instructions. The vast majority of which was out of date or irrelevant to this competition, and the three core questions to join the league went unanswered until we missed the deadline.
Post edited by J0hn-Stuart-Mill at 10/21/2012 2:26:25 PM
One more thought from a competition perspective. Having this be a best of three rounds was a really bad call because of the obvious speed advantages certain vehicles have. It would be like having a 2 vs 2 heli ladder with the slow havoc, and then asking one team to play with the havoc twice.

If you do a tournament again, it should obviously be higher ticket count, and then best of 2 rounds, with the difference being tickets. The majority of these matches will be decided by which team makes the better faction choices.

Anyways, just a tip for future balance.

What?
Really enjoyed the Round 1 match today with Team Special Forces - a couple of close rounds.

Loved the format, after each round we got to switch spawns etc, so not one sided. My team was happy with the format and so was the opposition. Good luck TSF for next round.
