8v8 18 man max server

Historical capture recovered from the Wayback Machine · captured 2012-01-07 · 9 posts
Stupid question probably. I see under the 8v8 conquest rules that the vars.maxPlayers 18 is set to just that 18. Most standard match servers are 16 man so what gives. Are teams required to carry an 18 man server? Seems rather redundant.

Thanks in advance,

Red
It is standard for shout-casting and/or spectating by admins.
But is it required?
18 also allows players to switch sides when the server is full without having one person disconnect. It has been the standard since the early days of 42 though, and was originally there for the shoutcasters.
It is not required, however does make it difficult switching sides.

Also, if there was an important match, like a league finals or tournament. You maybe told that your server can not be used since it will not have enough slots for shoutcasting.

When was there a shoutcasted match for BF3? ^_^

Not being a jerk, but I haven't seen any

We can hope can't we Mal?

Also, those slots are for an admin if needed. And like everyone said you need to be able to switch sides or swap players.

Not having the option for spectator makes this is a bit difficult.....

And due to patches, leagues, ladders, and a 100 other things there has not been an opportunity to shoutcast.
