A note from AC regarding GUIDs

To the Battlefield community, new and old members alike,

Sorry for the long winded post, but this information is important and in the end you are ultimately responsible for knowing it. Please read carefully.

The purpose of this message is 2-fold:
  1. To inform you exactly what is expected of you in regards to your GUID.
  2. To let you know what you can do to help us ensure that everyone's GUID is correct and valid.

In the past we have been a little lax in enforcement of GUID rules. Let this post serve to inform you this will not be the case going forward.

*** Your GUID ***
Your GUID is generated by the game from your CD key (or your Origin account if you bought it electronically) and is specific to you and you alone. ONLY THE LAST 8 DIGITS must be entered into your profile correctly. If it is mistyped at all you will be removed from your team's rosters and not allowed to compete until it is fixed. Period.

YOU are responsible for protecting your GUID, and by extension, your CD key and Origin account details. YOU are responsible for any suspicious activity that occurs on your GUID*. Your GUID is permanently attached to you, meaning if you sell your CD-key on Ebay and the buyer goes out and hacks with your GUID, you will be banned from here, possibly permanently. Do not ever let anyone have access to your Origin account, and maintain a secure password.

Teamwarfare League's policy towards GUIDs has changed and become more strict recently. All requests for modification, deletion or transfer of GUIDs must occur through guid@teamwarfare.com. This email is monitored by the AC director and lead AC manager. They, and only they, are the only ones that can/will help you with any GUID issues.

*** Helping us insure the validity of GUIDs ***
Try as we might, we and the automated features of this site miss issues with GUIDs periodically. We rely on the community to help ensure the integrity of all the players. Steps you can take to help:
  1. In the days before playing another team, check their roster to ensure they all have their GUIDs entered and that they look correct.
  2. Use the PBBans MPi to ensure that their GUIDs come back as valid and unbanned.
  3. At match time, check that every person in the game is playing with the correct GUID and that it is listed on the teams roster. We've said it a thousand times, if there are invalid players in the server, do NOT start the match. Make them get valid players or find an admin on IRC. Postpone the match if you can't do one of those. If you start the match, you are stating that you accept those invalid players as valid, and it may NOT be disputed. If there is an issue, notify the competition staff (their email differs depending on the type of ladder/league. It can be looked up here: Staff Contact List).

Instructions on obtaining your GUID and the GUIDs of the people in the server with you will be added to this post once the commands are verified.

Again, for security reasons only the last 8 digits of your GUID are to entered.

A couple of final notes:
  • While checking another person's GUID on PBBans, if you note that they are linked to bans on other GUIDs in any game, please email us at ac@teamwarfare.com. We will investigate. Keep in mind that links to other bans does NOT at all mean that person is hacking. A majority of links are highly circumstantial. We will take a look though, and make sure everything is okay.
  • This is a good community, help us keep it that way. Hacks are fairly few and far between. The ones that do show up though tend to keep coming back. If you have a new player applying for your team, feel free to ask us to do a quick investigation. We will be more than happy to do so.

If you have ANY questions, concerns, or need an investigation done, please email us at ac@teamwarfare.com
Thanks for your support.

* I'll mention here that in certain ways this applies to your IP address as well. If you share an external internet connection with (i.e. are on the same router as) someone who receives a Punkbuster ban (whether or not they are members of TWL), you will be banned for this. So if you brother/mother/roommate/wife hacks, you may ultimately be responsible for their behavior.

I am locking this post, but if you have questions or comments about it, feel free to create another thread, email me, or contact me on IRC.

There are three methods to obtain your PB GUID for BF3 (NOTE: you only enter the last 8 characters into your TWL profile):

Method 1 (Only works if you have a BF3 server with Procon access):
Join your server. You can read your GUID, as well as the GUIDs of others in the server through Procon.

Method 2 (Only works if you are a registered member of PBBans):
  • Join any PB enabled server that streams to the PBBans index (if you've played the game at all you have most likely already done this). You can find one close to you through the PBBans MSi Server Locator.
  • Obtain your external IP address. The easiest way to do this is to google "my ip address"
  • Go to the PBBans Master Player Index
  • Enter your IP address as the Search Data, and select "User IP" in the Search By drop-down menu. Perform the search.
  • Click on the GUID listed under BF3 and verify through the alias used that it belongs to you.

Method 3: You must have Windows configured to show file extensions for this to work.
  • Navigate to your pb folder
    C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Local\PunkBuster\BF3\pb
  • Create or edit a file called pbcl.cfg in the pb folder
  • Add the following line to pbcl.cfg:
    pb_logtofile 1
  • Save the file and join a PB enabled server
  • In the pb folder you should see a pbcl.log file within it should be a line starting with:
PB Server assigned guid = XXXXXX

Remember, you only need the last 8 characters of the GUID.

Why method 3 above most likely won't work if Windows is hiding file extensions:

If you right-clicked in the above folder and selected "New" -> "Text Document", then typed pbcl.cfg as the new name, Windows will still put a .txt on the end of the name if you have extensions hidden. The same thing will happen if you use notepad to create the file.

In any windows explorer window, go to Organize and select Folder and Search Options. Click the View tab, and UNCHECK Hide Extensions for Known File Types. Check the name of your pbcl.cfg file. If the file is called "pbcl.cfg.txt" it will not work. You must remove the .txt
Method 4

Enter PB Streaming Server - VX9 Team Server

and type in chat:

@myguid [full]

Enter the last 8 characters of that number into your profile. Under your profile -> Add "anti smurf ID" -> "Battlefield 3 PB GUID"
