10 issues being addressed for launch

Historical capture recovered from the Wayback Machine · captured 2011-11-24 · 20 posts
1. Battlefield 3 Squad issues: Cannot play with friends within same squad, squads get split up onto opposite teams, etc.
Squad management systems will be introduced to help players control what squad they're in along with other features: creating squads prior to launching Battlefield 3, squad member retainment (staying in the same squad when continuing into other matches, locking squads, inviting squad members, kicking squad members, and muting the annoying ones.

2. Regarding additional Open Beta content and fixes/patches for consoles, including PlayStation 3 issues with chat and party systems.
DICE is focusing their efforts towards the final release of the game, we can all agree that this is a better idea. "While we would like to patch the Open Beta, DICE is currently focusing its available resources on polishing the retail game."

3. Will DICE have enough time to iron out everything by release?
A lot of issues will be fixed, for a detailed explanation look here.

4. Can we have ability to change settings/options before deployment into match on PC?
The ability to modify your settings via the deploy screen has been added into the retail game.

5. Issues with terrain stability and "falling into the map" on Operation Metro
This has been fixed for the beta via a server side update.

6. Kill cam sometimes zooms out too far or outside the map
This has been fixed for the launch of the retail game.

7. A bug that sometimes keeps some players from being able to sprint
This has been fixed for the launch of the retail game.

8. Screen flickering/stuttering. Blue screen remains after respawn. Game locks up after deploying C4 (360)
This has been fixed for the launch of the retail game.

9. Downed bodies appear to be dead, but are not
The DICE team has been looking into this issue - which is caused by a combination of incidents in a confined area - and are working hard to address the issue for the launch of the retail game. It could be this glitch or that the Battlefield 3 player is simply mistaken.

10. Why is the hit detection seemingly different from Battlefield: Bad Company 2?
The netcode is one of the many things that we are testing as part of the Battlefield 3 Open Beta and is not necessarily reflective of the final retail game. The DICE team appreciates and has heard the feedback you've provided and is further optimizing online play for BF3.

10 looks semi promising.

Saw that on Battlelog earlier. Gotta say im impressed if its true.
here is a blog post detailing the beta a bit. Overall, it all sounds good. See if they actually deliver on it all.
See, thats why i hate when ppl bitch about betas, the freaking beta helps us know to tell them what we dont like.. but instead some bitch and act like the game is crap or blah blah. they are looking out for us PC players unlike them CoD Makers who just want to get all out money :-( it's a good thing i am to poor to buy mw3 too or they would of taken my $60 bucks ago :-(

This is good news indeed

The problem is that an "open beta" these days is typically the final retail version of the game for the most part.. more or less a demo. As such, a lot of things (more or less netcode here) are difficult to fix at such a late stage in the game's development.

I'd be very impressed if #10 ends up being true.

i wish the forums for feedback wasnt all a bunch of crying ididots or you could post something to help them like helicopter ruberbanding which isnt nearly as bad as bc2 but if you get hit by a jet your going down and he wont get the kill most the time.... the second is the head seaking missiles for the helicopter are useless never lock on

they allready said this is a old build of the game because of xbox and psn testing requirements. to get approval for the beta.

Someone please name a game title that was perfect upon release? I certainly haven't seen one. Though the beta is definitely a beta, I utterly enjoy the game. Who cares about the rest.

Bc2 was a laggy pos when it launched and had the same netcode problems. You think they would have fixed this by now.... being that bf3 is basically bc2-2.

Cod has been releasing trash games, balance wise and content, but at least they don't release games with serious memory leaks and bad netcode.

Forgot about the p2p servers from MW2 already?

I read an article recently that compared the way both games process bullets, in COD the bullets basically travel in a straight line instantly hitting the target, no drop and infinite velocity, BF3 has a much more complex bullet drop system. It's not necessarily a fair comparison.

I'm not making excuses, because I don't remember any of the past BF games having these issues, however I think it's too early to condemn BF3 just yet.

I don't think it had bad netcode or memory leaks, but Black Ops had really bad lag spikes the first month it came out. Even after they fixed the lag spikes, the game had some bad fps issues.

Lots of games have problems when they're first released. What remains to be seen is whether they can fix most of them quickly or not.

BC2 was the first BF game, at least that I remember, that I would die 1-2 seconds after diving behind cover.

Granted the other games had lag issues, but this particular issue I only remember for BC2, and BF3 to a lesser degree.
halo pc had netcode probs and they never fixed it.. but they did make halo CE which still had probs but it wasnt as bad, so they not only split the community alittle they didnt fix it..8 years later i went to play and I sucked balls because i forgot how to lead my shots.

fail :-(

it will all work out.

anyone notice the mw3 forum is kinda slow around here? :-)

All kidding aside, anything MW3 related has not come across my TV or computer screen in a long ass time. I think the BF vs CoD thing has died down enough to where fans of both are happy with their titles and won't venture to the others area much. That being said, you know the first month of BF3 will be populated with CoD players spouting off their hatred for BF3 as they play. Same is true for when MW3 hits and BF players who want to test MW3 play and adjust to that.

How many BF's had this problem on release?

It's because CoD has become boring. Here we have a new release on the horizon, and the EXACT SAME questions/threads are being put up all over the interwebs -- the very same ones we've seen for years. Boooooooooring!

I wish they would make the lag compensation toggle-able through a server config.

We need to have no lag compensation for competition.
