Medic Class?

Historical capture recovered from the Wayback Machine · captured 2011-11-27 · 106 posts
Just an idea but what if TWL put a weapon restriction on the medic kit. No LMG's, just the thompson or shotgun? (every kit weapons)

The kits in this game are still imbalanced in the sense that the medic kit carries weapons that have 100 shots vs assault 30 and are only slightly less accurate. The ability to revive a team mate is obviously huge. The medic kit gun should be at a disadvantage and not even with the assault in terms of firepower.

Just a thought.
Didn't feel a new thread was need and found this post that was dumb enough figured it wouldn't go anywhere.

I was reading the rules for the vietnam tournament. Says no weapons/class restrictions, so was wondering if that means the m60 is allowed. I haven't used it at all in vietnam and can't really see it being any better than any other gun on the game but just wanted to make sure it was alright for people to use it.
The medic kits dont really bother me in vietnam

The "scope in" time is considerably slower than assault

If a medic and an assault see each other at the same time - the medic should lose

In the few scrims we have had so far the teams that have ran full medic vs us have not been able to compete as well as teams that were mixed

white - m60 is legal -but nerfed to shit - enjoy

The rez train is gone - there is no rez protection
Im sure every player here has been suicide-rezzed half a dozen times already
Its good for the k/d lol (why the f they didnt fix that shit )

I dont see any need to restrict anything plus the US kits are so similar it would be harder to tell them apart

LOL, of course it doesn't bother you, it's all your team uses.

I said it before and I'll say it again; class restrictions are needed in Vietnam just like in vanilla.

PS, in the interest of full disclosure I think you had one assault guy. But still, my point stands.

Im suprised you think that we all played medic

we had 3 medics - casio vic nymic
panda and merc play assault

I was playing engy

Either way the medic class is not OP - no question of that
People just dont like to see people rezzed
I think its what seperates BF from games like cs and cod and adds to the teamwork of the game

Racial slurs are not to be used, even passively.

in the limited scrims i've played its all anyone uses besides 1-2 people on the other team. You should not have the ability to revive a teammate and have 100 shots.

It seemed like the only thing I was dying from was the RPK. And I was doing alot of dying, lol.

Whatevs though, I believe you and I was really just busting your balls a little anyway.

But regardless of that, I still think they need class restrictions on the medics. 2 per team would be perfect. No weapons restrictions.

This is a battlefield game. When it comes to infantry combat, medic is always the favored class. If you don't like that then maybe battlefield isn't for you.

That being said, the medic in vietnam is nerfed when you compare it to medics from the other bf games.

Doesn't mean it's right.

Sounds like a reply from someone who uses the crap out of the medic class. Just because it is in the game does not make it balanced for competition. It may be balanced for 64 man servers, but not for 6v6.

I agree 2 medic limit should be used, just as there should be limits on most of the other classes, except Assault.

Simmer down bro. There's no need to be hostile, I was just bustin balls while trying to make my point.

I've been playing battlefield since 1942 and yeah, I love the medic class. I wasn't happy when they added magic rezzing as a capability and, like N2DEEP said, just because it's there doesn't mean it's balanced for competition.

I see no reason why the admins can't at least CONSIDER class restrictions based on community feedback.

being a medic should give a tradeoff that is slightly large compared to every other class. Right now as it stands, I dont think the tradeoff is big enough.. Assault is meh.. okay in dmg comparisons..

I just think limiting the kits to a specific amount might be interesting or even making meds run with a specific gun so they are relegated to their actual "support" role which they are supposed to be anyways.

i can play either way they make it, just seems like balance is a slight issue and always has been. Bc2 where teams would run basically ALL medic.. kinda shows that imbalance over the past bf games - que revive being the reason mainly
Like... medics can only use garands? Something like that?
Why can't it be the go ol' days when medic class was the assault kit...

This.
I wasn't trying to be hostile. Just trying to make a point.

If there was still revive invulnerability, and the LMGs were as powerful as they were in the the original BC2. I would be on board with limiting the class.

In vietnam the LMGs are no where near as good as assault/engineer weapons and revives don't play as big of a role as they did in the original.
recon, yeah. if you remember 1942, the medic got i think the mp40 as its weapon and it wasnt the gun that made people choose the class.

thompson, shotgun etc. even possibly the xm22 maybe(i think its ranged dmg is retarded bad?)

I can play either way, i just wonder if people would find it a much better game with something like that. Lots of people downplay balance questions/ideas without actually testing them. Ya never know, it just might work out really well.

anyways food is beckoning.. LATES!
Are you people on crack?

You are being way too naive to honestly say that the medic kit is not overpowered. Please. BUT, it has been this way since 1942. The ability to heal yourself (pre-BF2) and revive (post BF2) has been the game design for as long as the series has been out. With infantry only it would be foolish to go with anything but medics. Even if you manage to get only one revive in a firefight, you'd still theoretically be at a 15 second numbers advantage against the other team. That's all you need to white a flag.

I'm not saying limit the classes, because we never have ever in all the BF games, this is how the game is designed. It always has been the medic as the most powerful infantry class hands down, and it won't change.
thats why i think making the tradeoff for medic should be the ability to have the numbers game in your favor be traded off for a terrible gun for the medic player. It would force people to HAVE to use multiple classes or else they just won't be able to win any gunfights at all.
In bf2 the smgs on the at kit were op, but luckily we had bf2pro to fix that issue. Too bad this game is balls with no mod support or else we could do something similar with medic.
Limiting the number of medics allowed during a round would make it almost impossible to monitor, however limiting the guns they are allowed to use would work. Medics have always been overpowered in the BF series. Why not put up a vote for all the team founders in the tourney to see if the medic class guns should be limited?
I think limiting the use of the medic class with the universal unlocks ( Thompson, 870 shotty) This makes the medic formidable only in close combat, preventing sniping with a machine gun.

I just dont see the fun in everyone running around with LMG's. We already had to do that in BC2 which got old quick.
Like I said before the game is meant to be played with vehicles. I dare you to revive your squad in front of a tank with a gunner. Vehicles force a team to at least consider using other classes.
u cant change the dmg i dont think, but you can limit weapons within the kit etc.

it is able to be monitored how many medic kits.. the programs used in bc2 work in vietnam last i heard and you could limit the amount of medic classes in the game.

someone correct me if im wrong here plz.

add: im looking at bc2cc right now and i can restrict kits as well as specific weapons.

1. Learn to use the AK-47
2. Kill every single Medic with an RPK in a 1v1
3. ???
4. Win video card in TWL tournament

Both work tbh...

I'm having trouble figuring out why people think medic is still so OP. Ignore your BC2 experience for a moment here and try playing some Vietnam. I mean, have you tried the AK or PPSh? They are portable rape machines. Who cares about having 100 shots? Do you frequently find yourself spamming that many bullets to kill targets? With the damage potential in the AK and good shooting, you could take out 4-5 people in one clip of 30.

Seriously, try it. Medics get cut down because they can't compete unless they get the drop.

I'm referring to rez-magics specifically. I'm not worried about the weapons persay. I'm saying limit it to two medics.
So what have we learned from this thread?

rival is the only team that doesn't want any change in medics. surprise surprise
Post edited by El_Shiznit at 1/6/2011 2:55:48 PM
Honestly - we dont give a shit

Change whatever you want it doesnt make any difference to us - we have good shots regardless of gun

Guys that are good with the rpk are better with a ak/ppsh
People will learn the hard way
If your getting owned by a rpk now - itll be worse with a real gun

People that think medics are OP in this expansion pack havent done their homework

The secret to winning in BF games isnt medics or assault rezzes etc - its practice
The team that scrims more will usually win - period

There should be no limit on the number of medics, there should be a limit on the weapons they get. The RPK is not as good as the AK, M16, or even the PPsh, but its not bad enough to detract someone from choosing that kit over the others because it comes with the ability to revive a team mate, which is huge.

While reviving teammates is a good and unique feature to the BF series (since bf2) it also rewards sloppy play if a majority of players are running medic and can just revive any teammate. If you changed the weapons the medic kit can use you have to really choose who is running medic vs another kit.

In my opinion it would make overall gameplay better then it currently is (which is much better than BC2 vanilla), and hopefully breathe more life into this expansion and BF games in the future.

you do know you have the abilty to use the same weapon or class as everybody else. Not sure how anything is op just get better at the suppose op weapon or kits.

I am making a suggestion to improve overall gameplay. I am fully aware that I can select the medic kit.
Game is good, no need to change it. Might need to disallow m60 and mortar etc but it's good as it is with the spawn protection gone.
saying "get better with a gun" doesnt work because things like the gustav would still be in the game. 3d spotting, cod4's uav, nukes, heli kill streaks, etc. etc.

sometimes for a game to be competitive balance needs to be done and BF has always had a problem with the medic kit not having a tradeoff for its use. To play medic you should be trading off something big to get the revivability(sp?) is what the issue is.

as it stands, medic IS the class to play because of its very high utility with still very high ability to kill. Nobody is saying the medic gun is better than the ak47/ppsh.. we are saying that there is no large tradeoff and thats where the balance should be looked at.

The idea is to encourage diversity in playstyle.

We don't want to see the same strats over and over again. I'd rather see two teams using different techniques each round than using the same one over and over because its hands down the most effective.

At this point I think it would do more damage than good to change the rules this close to the first round.

However, I'm not opposed to changing the rule for future rounds. Usually its not a good idea to change something after a tournament/league has started, but I'm willing to toss that aside for whats in the best interest of competition.

Keep the discussion going.
Well cap 3engi's 3assault 2medics 1sniper. this being infantry 8v8 would allow more engi's. Figured I'd keep it going, anybody else.

No offense, but restricting the medic class isn't going to accomplish this. Basically every team will be running with more assaults/engis and then there is no diversity yet again. Everyone is going to use the most effective way because the most effective way wins.

I don't mind the restriction, but honestly the arguments shouldn't be "more diversity" or "medics op." If you see a team beat another team using a few medics... ppl are going to cry medic op. If a team played all ak47 because the medic no longer gets an lmg.. ppl are all going to cry ak47 op.

Make the restriction and people are still going to find something to complain about. Not because something is op... but there is a skill gap between players. That's not going to change unless there is some rule where everybody gets put on randomized teams lol. Restrictions aren't going to make it an equal playing field.
