BF1942 Revival Group

Last night in MoonGamers Teamspeak, There was a gathering or so of about 8-9 people that had a discussion. The topic of discussion was fixed on finding any possible ways to bring players and interest back to this game. As this game is now almost 9 years old, it's a pretty obvious fact that the overall population, while swelling at some points, is at an overall decline. We would like to counter that decline by any means necessary and with as much support from the remaining population that still plays this game. While many things were discussed, we broached many key topics such as hosting a tournament with a monetary prize, getting widely reknowned companies to participate or sponsor an event(Xfire, EA or other manufacturing companies) and how to bring veterans back into the game so the more inexperienced players can have a better gaming experience by becoming more experienced themselves. While we do understand this is an uphill battle as new games are constantly coming out, the problems with pb and mechanical errors in general and a lack of a place where all players can unite, congregate and discuss (I.E. CAL, TWL, etc.), the general consensus was this: with enough support from dedicated players who are willing to attempt a change, we can make a difference. We can all agree that this game is extremely enjoyable, be it playing once you get out of work to blow off some steam, or on the other end of the spectrum, taking it very seriously, and we would like to see that continue as long as possible.

For those of you remember when CAL was deciding whether or not to host another '42 season, there were so many players who instantly re-mobilized and re-formed teams. There were even random teams that spawned just for the sake of having a team. Had CAL actually followed through, being a known competitive source for great games, it would of been a success. So, that being the case, why without the remaining '42 communities and a head of intellectual, determined players, backed by sponsors or well known companies, can we not invoke the same response? Some players were not given the opportunity to play this game when they would have liked to because of either being too young, or because they were heading off to college, or whatever various reason. This push can be seen as a collective effort to help those players finally have that experience. They could then tell their friends, "Hey, you have to check out this amazing game that I play..." and then new players could also get reacquainted with the game.

My point is this, if there is anyone out there who enjoys this game in all it's glorious forms and wants to help keep it alive, we're looking for you. Anyone who thinks they could be helpful to this cause is more than welcome to get themselves involved. This is a big if, but with enough support from the remaining 1942 community and it's dedicated players, I'm sure we could see the overall population of this game increase, as well as the great experiences. :]

Above all else, we need player involvement and support! So any criticism or support you can provide is welcomed!

There is a way to get 1942 trough a Digital store like Steam?

I want to get it
just go to ebgames. u can get the game and all the expansions for like $20
The best place I know of to get it as of right now is Amazon. I guess you guys can just order it through there.
TWL has no problem supporting 1942 again as long as there is a community to support. It's safe to say that the days of ladders and leagues are about over as it's tough to sustain competitions over a long period of time for dying games. However, things such as PUG's and tournaments are possibilities if the interest is there.

If this thing gets rolling, I would have no problem hosting the tournament and even promoting those in charge of organizing it to admins here to oversee it given they pass the background check. My email is in my sig if you want to explore this further.

I'm sure the boys from tgbf will be onboard i'll bring it up at the next meeting we have
Canadian, if you want to contact me about the TGBF meeting, I'd be more than willing to have a discussion with you about that. Clayman, I think TWL hosting a BF1942 tourney would be amazing. Provided the support is there as are the community players, this thing should turn out phenomenal. xfire=holdingpatterns, feel free to contact!

No its Pirates!! It has ships, cannons and muskets with the odd tankard thrown in.

Where can I get Pirates?

From moongamers of course!!

http://www.moongamer...showtopic=47194
I'll see if I can find my disc and key.
By the way, all those of you considering buying it, it's only 10 dollars for the entire collection.
I liked the Pirates mod but the FH mod was the best one and then the Star Wars mod. Of course DC is untouchable.

Yeah, they're all great. Is anyone considering playing the game again? We're looking into hosting a tournament with some decent prizes, provided we get enough teams and players.
I'll play although I'll prob be the only one I know! I'm more of a DC player myself but love all the others as well.
I never got to play it for competition, but I played the game some. I'd jump on and play w/ someone for the hell of it. If anything, just to see what the competition is/was like.

TWL has talked about hosting a tournament for '42. I've been talking to Clayman and he said that it's a definite possiblity TWL will host a '42 league. We'd be playing Battlefield Pro for all you old skool competitive players, match day at Sunday 9PM EST. So...anyone interested?
I have opened the 1942 forum back up for the purpose of discussing and organizing this tournament.

Why wont people just move on to newer and better things? -.-
could you please point out what game is "newer and better" right now?

if ur implications are bc2 is newer and better, then you are only 50% right and even then i would say only 25% right.

Newer yes, better.. hell no. newer, well it has the "perk" system so its not new, its turning towards the cookie cutter fps of COD etc. the only real "new" thing about it is.. squad deathmatch?

/facepalm
Is it all NA people or also EU people that is forming this group?

I mean games that came out in the last year, not in the last decade. Yes, I know you are gone say old games are better... but no, actually they aren't. Games are getting better and sometimes you just have to move on...
lol in comparison games of old are better yes.

name one game that was in the last 5 years that has had a server browser that was fully functional and had as many options as say.. tribes 1(you wont find a single game to date that has a server browser that was/is better than tribes 1 so dont even try lol)

games of today.. how many have come out that had all the things that the competitive community needed from the get-go?

cod4 being really the only one for the most part.

the games of old(bf:v, quakes, cs 1.6, tribes 1, bf1942, etc.) came with those features and were built distinctly for the pc. the replayability of the game was what made the great. PC games of today are arcadey linear games that people get bored of after 2 months but keep playing because there isnt any other game to move to since the old games communities have died out. cs 1.6 is an old game. and it is BEYOND better than any new game that has come out(not in my personal opinion its not because of how linear the game is, i like open ended games where you have the choice of route you can take) but by how big the game is competition wise.

just because a game has fancy new graphics and a server browser that makes cool noises when you drop down a menu(that has hardly any functionality) doesnt actually mean its "bigger and better"

"newer" and "consolier" <--that a word? maybe..

sales doesnt make a good game.. replayability and longevity of the game makes a good game.

There is a reason Call of Duty keeps pumping out new versions every year after their cod1/cod2.. think about it.

I need to agree on that, specially about playing a "new" game for 2 months and being so sick off it already. The times that we played non stop over and over are gone for the "new" games.
