Linux Version?

Just wondering, any plans on releasing a Linux version of CDS, since a Linux version of AA is being released?
My guess is there's not to be a linux version of CDC, though I think it's a pitty.

If you feel you're a very good programmer, perhaps you could give Hydra a hand
CDC will only be made for the windows inv. until further notice.

Simple if you want to play a TWL match, you use CDC and the windows version of AA. How you play AA outside TWL matches in none of our consern.

This is of cause to stop anyone from saying I am on linux or Mac version of AA, so I can't use CDC and then load up a hack and play against the others.

And also a bad excuse of not porting the software.
Mac users cant run windows on their box.

If the demand is there for it, we'll port it.
Probably a linux version would work with OS X

There is no bad excuse for not doing anything when you are doing it for free.....

How long has it taken AA to get ported??
I for one would use the Linux version if you made the decision to port it.

Mac users can run Windows on their box!

Play on the other hand...

CDS ain't even near the amount of code lines to port.
For every line of code in CDS I guess there's more than 100 lines in aao, if not even more.

okay. AA has been around for about 900 days (have to include pre-release developement). So 900/100 (100th amount of code)...

HYDRA!!!!! You have nine days to port this thing!!!

No one is making excuses. But, this is all done for free. The AA devs are paid. We have real jobs and lives also. We do things when we have the time and ability. Until then we make do with what we have, And if that means someone has to play on Windows, then someone has to play on Windows.

Let me ask a question. How many have actually donated for his efforts? What if he said no, I'm not going to?

You are playing a free game, on a free site, using a free anti-cheat tool. Please give us a break.

Have you tried looking for someone who'd be willing to rewrite the program in C, which could then relatively easily be ported to Linux? I'd do it, but I'd rather see someone else on the job (I don't touch WinAPI unless I really have to).
Errare humanum est, ergo non humanus sum.
The code is Hydra's and is best kept by him. There will be NO linux version, you have all played AA on your windows box until now so what the big deal?

Having 2 versions that has to be updated by different people would make new updates take longer and more testing would be required.

Very simple guys if you want to play matches using linux it wont be on TWL.

I have to agree with Shadows on this one. A LINUX version would mean having to track down a number of LINUX users that we could trust so that it could be tested properly. And at this point there very few of those.

I'd rather see my machine to be windows free.
How many users here can say that they actaully own a windows licence? Don't think your to many. So why not use what's given to us, for free.

AA = Free
CDS = Free
Linux = Free

Nice, right? You can use all that for free
Your not following us here. The reality is, LINUX users are a minority. There are not enough LINUX users to test it properly. Here's a thought:

You spend the time to make it. Then find me a 100 or so LINUX AA players that agree to test it and we'll go from there. Until then the matter is closed.

What if ... someone ... took this opertunity to write a CDS client, stand alone from HACDS
I'd like to see a Gentoo bootable CD with AA, CDC, and TeamSpeak already loaded.
ok I think you had your say now and the answer is the same every time, so please step down and post about linux somewhere else.

Gotta love these Linux guru's that think they should have everything given to them. Follow the rules people. No one is forcing you to be in TWL. So if you want to use a Linux version of AA, which I haven't seen an official release of then go for it but don't force it on the rest of the AA community. So listen to the admins and drop it.
lol, I actually asked, then I made a suggestion that I might write a port for it, and no, it's not official yet, but will be til the next version.

And Harry, I don't try to force anything on to you, if you can't stand the linux posts, then dont read em.

I also respect the admins, but I'm always open for discussions , the only problem is that the other part aint so willing to discuss.
Well, like I've said before. I don't have any gripes with Linux.

In my opinion, the toughest thing would be if new hacks could get through one but not the other. Since as far as I know the Linux version uses OGL and we all know the Windows version uses DX. Then we'd have peeps who would start crying about, well, the Linux version has a hack, or the Windows version has a hack.

Not being a Linux programmer, but still a very diverse programmer, I don't think that CDC could be directly ported.
Primarily because of the heavy heavy use of the WinAPI that I use. Which I don't think would have any direct equivalents in Linux.

I know Linux is quite capable of socket programming, and data encryption. But what about it's process management capability? That's a question. I really don't know.

E.g. You can't hide a process or attach a module (inject) to a process in Windows without it being detected.
You can change names, inject it into this that or the other thing, but it can still be detected very easily.

The only way in my opinion that a port could be written would in reality just be an entirely different program.
It wouldn't be a code port, it would be a concept port.

Especially since there are certain parts of CDC which I'm just not going to make available because of their potential for abuse. Not saying that you or anyone else here would, I'm just saying that CDC does use some pretty advanced techniques that have the potential to be abused.

And of course all of this may be for naught, because we have yet to get an 'Official" Linux version of AA, but we've had Windows version for almost a year now.

But like I said, I'm no Linux programmer. You may just be reading this thinking, Earl, WTF are you talking about nOOb.
