minor release - a few extras

nothing too big here, but i thought i'd let folks know i put up a few more scripts on my site that you can check out.

first i have my "tiny waypoint" scheme -- there are two downloads for you here. first is a replacement waypoint marker, which will replace the giant "X" waypoint with a tiny dot. second, for those of you who like to use autopoints, is a modified version of boots' autopoints which does not display the player name. i'm not an autopoints user, really, but when i tested it i found it clutters the screen way too much. a combination of these two downloads can be seen in the screenshot on my "extras" page.

next, i have a replacement for the sound played when the enemy grabs your flag. the default is a modest "dah-dummm" drum/bass hit, which is easily missed in the heat of battle. my replacement is an alarm sound which i ripped off from the old genesis game "herzog zwei". it's a VERY noticable alarm. now, you will always be made aware of your flag leaving it's stand!

all this, and of course my Frog Deathmatch mod, can be found at:

http://ricefrog.webhop.org

i'm working on some bot AI code, but as soon as i can put that to the side, i'll try to crank out a team deathmatch like you guys all asked for.

raz, i think that the task diamond is not the same as the waypoint X so it might not work for you like that.

actually, you could just edit the VL2 tho -- rename (or copy) the small_cross.png to small_diamond.png, and then it will work for tasks.
NOOOOOO your right. Lol i played rabbit tonight again and it didnt work. )=. Im not a big script guy think if you had the time you could make something that replaces the rabbit HUGE DIAMOND?

I would you forever.
raz, just for you:

you can find it on the "extras" page below the tinywapoint.

look for the line that reads
"I also have a tiny-dot replacement for the task diamond HERE."

(edit - raz that will also replace the diamond in rabbit, it's the same task diamond used everywhere)

thx u

w00t

ricey mods stuff
Rice i installed the 2 scripts for autopoints but it still shows X's instead of .

Can you combine this into one script?

BTW the flag sound is real helpfull

Star

star,

the reason i made it two different scripts is so that people who wanted to use the tiny waypoints but not use autopoints (or not replace their existing autopoints w/ names) could use just the tiny waypoint.

i'm in irc right now, so if you want i could put together a special combination VL2 and DCC it to you, but i'm not sure that would solve the problem.

i'm trying to think of reasons the tiny waypoint wouldn't work. you told me how you don't use palletized textures, so the lack of a BM8 file can't be the problem.

this is stuff i'm sure you did, but i'll list the basics just in case:

- download the rice_tinywaypoint.zip from my site
here's a direct link:
http://ricefrog.webhop.org/rice_tinywp.zip

- extract that to /gamedata/base
now you should have z_ricetinywp.VL2 in base
inside this VL2 should be /textures/small_cross.png

the z_ at the front of the filename makes sure that this VL2 is loaded *after* the default textures.vl2, so that you get my waypoint instead of the X.

if you either renamed the default one, or extracted it out to the actual folder /textures, or included another Vl2 being loaded after mine which has a copy of the X waypoint, then that would explain the problem too.

i don't suppose you accidentally installed the tiny dot replacement for the task triangle by mistake?

if none of this seems like the problem, just double check you don't have palletized textures on, delete the Vl2 and try a reinstall. if that still doesn't fix it, you can look for me in IRC or email me at patisdead@yahoo.com and we'll figure it out.

it sounds like you installed all the other stuff right though, so i'm a little worried.... it works fine on my system, but can anyone else confirm that they've downloaded it from the site and had the tinywp work correctly?

ps if the VL2 is called z_ricetinytask instead of z_ricetinywp that means you have the task diamond replacement by mistake.
