I m posting here to find out what would you do if you had 8 players and you opponent had 7.Would you play 7 vs 7 or would you play 8 vs 7? I would put 7 and play the other team in a fair game but the other night we were short a man and the other team didnt want reschedule the match vs us and they wanted us to play one man short.pls post your comments
Personally I would hope my clan has the same innate sense of fair play that I have and would drop a player and play 7 vs. 7, but we have already had it happen to us on two occasions where we play a man down. Outnumbering the other team when we win just allows for less of a sense of true victory to me, and if I beat someone I want it to be a tough fought battle. My 2 cents.
If you don't have enough thats your bad. Recruit or drop the ladder. Don't expect the other team to bench one of their players just because you are down a man.
8v7. Both teams should understand that one team spent time practicing hard with 8 guys, and asked those 8 guys to show up at a certain time. They did, so there rewarded with playing the match.
The team who fails to get 8 guys is punished by playing a man-down.
Nothing wrong with this at all. In RTCW if you only get 5 guys to show, no one expects the other team to drop down to 5. You play 6v5. If you win short-handed, you're that much better of a team.
This not about rewarding a team, its about sportsmanship. We have 15 members and real life comes first. I guess wining is more important then a fair game.
You have a fair game. It's supposed to be 8v8. Asking the other team to sit someone that actually showed up and possibly put in a lot of scrimmage/prep time (and in doing so gave up some real life activities for that purpose) is more unfair than having your team playing short a man because someone could not or chose not to show up. 7v7 . I agree it's not about rewarding anyone. And i understand it's "in the rules". We have more than enough members in our clan to have a full roster in every match. but shit happens and sometimes people get stuck and can't show up. it's about bein cool, having fun, and winning fairly. winning a match when you have a 1 man advantage doesnt make your clan better and you sure as hell shouldn't be higher on the ladder if you beat a shorthanded team. Re-schedule, downsize to 7, just be cool. this isn't real fucking war it's a game and it should always be fair.
While it may sound nice to drop a man and play 7v7 when a team is short, it's not always something that can be easily accepted by the other team. Say you worked hard all week and tweaked out your 8v8 strat just to where you feel comfortable with it as a team and now the other team wants you to ask a member of your team to not play. The strat now has to change and the game dynamics are now changed. Odds are you wont see me asking a player to now play. Less a headache.
I would be more inclinded to have you reschedule or wait 20-30 mins until your guy shows.
I'm somewhat of a history buff. I really like history. It can teach us important lessons that can be applied now.
If I know I'm playing against a team that historically plays short if their opponent is short, or if I don't know the team's history, I'll play short.
If I know I'm playing against a team that said "screw you!" to a team that was short, I'll return the favor.
For the most part I'm laid-back as far as setting up matches and such. I'm about the farthest thing from a rules lawyer. In my eyes the rules are a guide that should only be envoked if there is a problem in the match.
Now, if someone is a rules lawyer and they want to try that on me, they better follow all of the rules to the letter or I'll be more than happy to call them out.
I like mr Pickles reference to history...as do I like the past...
only thing I can say...
In a perfect world we would always have the full team max, and always win...but see, real life likes to kick you in the nutz...
of all the matches I've played in, I don't think there has ever been 1 where we weren't worried about personalle 5 mins prior to the game...subsequently, we have played 1-3 people down...and I can't recall any of our matches really being evened out by the other team...it happens and there isn't much you can do about it...
I agree that if you get your max you should play them, because, after all, this is a game, it is about having fun...just don't be an azzhat if you win against someone that has fewer players...
Personally I know several teams that have been able to win, while being short...and a few that weren't...Glow comes to mind (granted this happened in rtcw but I won't forget it) was a 6v6 match (ladder) and they only had 4...no one offered to drop and there was no request too...we played the game and won 3-1...afaik, not one damn thing was said negative about either side and since then my respect has been with glow...they could have forfeitted, we could have made them...but its a game...we played our hardest, yet they still managed to pull 1 round from us...
point is, good/bad/whatever...its a game imo, and I'm here to have fun...if I'm on the team down, or up...just play like its your last match...don't be an ass if you loose/win...
yeah in a perfect world...I'll never know what that is aside from a really interesting movie...
Whenever I play against another team, I want to play against their full potential. I don't want to play them on an off night, without key players, or with bad connection problems. That being said, it's still a ladder with two competitive teams playing agaist each other. Each member of the teams is responsible to THEIR team to be there for them. The captains are responsible to THEIR team to work out scheduling conflicts and make sure they have a big enough roster to field enough players. What do all of these beliefs add up to? I would ask the other team to reschedule. If they or you don't want to reschedule, then I'm going to play you with my full roster. It's competition and you better get used to it.
Now a scrimmage or a pick-up is a completely different sittuation and I would hope the other team would even out the number of players with their own team members or at least drop the necessary amount of players. Post edited by Orcus at 7/31/2003 6:41:28 PM
My clan prepares hard for each match for the day of the match. If the other team can not show up with their people, than to me, They play a man/women down. Please do not waste my clans time if your not ready to fight. and on another note. If you play 8's you better have 4 extra people on back up for when the real life stuff happens. We field a roster of 20 for 3 leagues. STA,CAL, and TWL for wolf. this season we will be playing ET to. So we may add 8 to 10 more people.
TBO I don't care what the other teams does. We played in a ladder match and we were down 2 guys and they were nice enough to agree to it, but they decided to spawn camp us like the azz hat's they are. I wouldn't expect them to drop 2 or even 1 guy since it is our fault that we didn't field a whole team but them sending a panzer into our spawn over and over is just cheap. Because I know if we had 8 it would have been a different outcome.. Post edited by Threshold at 8/1/2003 8:10:20 PM

Dont expect a team to alter there strat because you had 6 guys as well. This team in most likelyhood have been practicing there 8 man strat which included a Camper. You guys agreed to play the match 8v6. Dont accuse them of being cheap for still using there 8 man strat.
Speaking purely as a player, my clan would never expect someone who could field enough players to play with less just because we couldn't do so. In fact, LoT has played the a lot of matches down one guy either the whole time or part of the time. It still would be silly for a team to not use every advantage afforded to them that is legal to win.
EDIT: To the guy above me, I'd also like to say being down 1-2 guys doesn't necessarily mean you will lose. Post edited by Warpath)x( at 8/6/2003 11:26:02 PM
I've played times when not all our people showed, and we played down, not expecting the other team to drop men to suit our circumstance. However when we play teams that our down a man, we always offer to drop to meet them. I think the spirit of sportsmanship is not the seeking of only a win, but of a test of skills and mind that really only takes place when you remove the obvious inequalities from the playing field.
I'm not rule-bashing, sportmanship exists apart from the rules truly, and I have no real qualms with any of the rules as they are now. Still it seems to me that sportsmanship in general is harder to find in online gaming nowadays than it has been in the past. To the point that when we find a team that would consider dropping a guy, or suggest another server when they have a gross ping advantage, we're much more likely to develop ties to that clan. Scrims, practices, pub-jumping, etc., out of sheer pleasure in finding a team who enjoys the spirit of the game as much as the comptetition. Eagles may fly above it all, but weasels never get sucked into jet engines.
