Next season and how to decrease the impact of forfeits

All teams pooled together. Simply seperate the playoffs into alpha and beta playoffs, with the top 8 going to the alpha tier playoffs and then the next 32 (or 24, or 16, depending on the # of teams left) or so seeded into a "beta" playoff.

If a team has more than 1 forfeit during the season, they shouldn't be eligible for post season play. Then we also don't have to worry about people bitching about sandbagging, and alpha forfeits and barely finishing with enough alpha teams TO have a playoff.

Then saying you're an alpha team would mean your team actually has accomplished something (making the alpha playoffs)

Fix sandbagging, the # of teams in alpha, and make alpha actually mean something.

Just a few thoughts, probably going to get flamed to hell on this, but I think it would be a success

Combining could work, but not being allowed to play postseason because of one forfeit sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.
At first when i read this i thought it was an excellent idea but when you get down to it wont some teams that dont have to play the "alphas" have a bit of an advantage. Even past that if you make everyteam play an alpha clan what about teams that would have to play u5 over a lower alpha clan where they might stand a chance. Regarding the forfeit process i think thats a great idea.
I say put this season's beta winner against the alpha with the best record and see if there is that big a difference. If not, just combine and keep everything the same.

I like the idea of no play if you have forfeited, but make it a no-response forfeit. Not a not enough players forfeit. If you can distinguist between that somehow.
agreed pede, there should be a difference

however, after an 8 game season there's no reason the top 8 or 16 teams shouldn't be able to be clearly defined

you COULD make alpha playoffs a bit larger, like 16

that way everyone would get a fair shake. No reason, if you're a top team, that you can't finish in the top 16 of a combined league. sure, there will be scheduling anamolies, but hopefully admins can be quicker in the future about removing teams from league play who forfeit numerous times so they don't keep giving people free points
I could be wrong, but from what I"ve seen is that the teams that are forfeiting on a regular basis also request to be removed from league play. If TWL admins would remove them and or stop scheduling them to play then that would get rid of the "free" points as well.

Remember, all in all, nothing is free

Long Sigs Suck!
It could work but some teams that play in leagues for the fun aspect might get discouraged haveing to play alpha teams and most likely getting owned.
there are what, 7-12 alpha teams in a given season anymore?

Yeah, Kinetic might put a whooping on a team that plays for fun and isn't very good, but a top level beta team is gonna put basically the same whooping on them as well, since many of these teams should be in alpha anyways. Run and Pack, RAS, these teams and some others also have a huge talent gap between them and most of beta.

So really, it wouldn't be much different than the status quo

It's worth considering and it should be interesting to see who signs up for the next season. I know many teams are burned out after prepping for Qcon.

The flip side is also to see what new teams join competition. Considering the free nature of ET, there will always be an influx of new teams imo. Once we have the info in hand, it will be alot clearer as to what direction ET should go in for the upcoming season.

combining will ONLY work if the admins take real good care in scheduling which already looked pretty fucked up during the reagular season with 2 different leagues. if u5*, ~, commies get matched up with low-mid betas ... both sides lose interest in playing and ET dies.

i say just make the preseason important, when all teams are in one pool anyways... just do 2 or 3 rounds of preseason and pull out the top 16 teams or so and put them alpha. also add a rule that any team with 2 or more/3 or more alpha exp. players will automatically go alpha. and 2 or more ff's = kicked for season.

my 2 cents... pretty much worth nuthin.

commies are dead tbh
early on in the season would be possibility of an old alpha team and a mid beta team, but honestly, so what?

Of course, careful scheduling would avoid such issues
i heard somewhere that commies might make a one last run for it...

I have to admit it's pretty discouraging when a team like UGZ gets matched up against Run and Pack, Sinners, and Excel all in the same season
yeah, it would take some viligance on the part of mods
