Couple Q's about ladders

I was wondering if GUID's are required for playing on ladders (I don't think they are...) And if they aren't, why are they not required?

Also, ladders don't care about if the player is on an Alpha team, correct? Like an alpha player can play in Alpha leagues under one name, and come play on ladders as another name? I don't mind playing people that are better than me, it helps my gaming out, but I would sure like to know if I am challanging a team thats a bunch of Alpha players. While I am okay with losing to an Alpha team that we are scrimming or whatever, it is kind of annoying to lose a match to them. They are on a different level of gaming than I am, one that frankly my skills are not ready to compete in.

I don't know, maybe there should be a way denoting which ladder teams are playing with people that also compete in Alpha leagues too? Like I said, I don't mind losing to people I know are on another level of playing that I am, but I sure would like to know who they are in the ladders.

I always looked at ladders as a way of getting your teamwork better, etc. Why do Alpha players want come down to ladders anyways?

Thanks for taking the time to read this.... -Nick

GUID's are now required in ET since the latest Punkbuster files implement a method that allow a unique GUID based on hardware. Before this was possible, anyone could change their GUID since ET didn't get released as a commercial game and didnt come with a CD with a CDKey. Punkbuster had nothing fixed to go with and users could simply delete their etkey, and the game would create a new one. Anyways, to answer your question, GUID's are required.

As for Alpha players playing on a ladder, if they beat you, then you don't deserve to go up in rank. I am sure you realize this, and you are concerned mainly with challenging a legit team. However, playing on a ladder is like this. Over time, the ladder gets ranked pretty well, assuming teams remain together and frequently challenge.

Alpha players aren't always the best players. Some Alpha teams have some decent skilled players, individually not that great, but have superior teamwork and a better understanding of the game. Alpha players, together with Beta players even, will play the ladders to have a guarenteed scrim/match atmosphere, or they just like to play cause its a more relaxed atmosphere with the ladder team; no pressure to keep in playoff contention, or to win every game, etc.

It's relaxing and fun. You don't have to take it seriously if you don't want. I've been fortunate enough to play on a team for a couple weeks now, and it's just a fresh experience every time; both due to it being people I've never really played with before, and also seeing so many different playing styles from so many teams. Also, playing with people you otherwise wouldn't really is a lot of fun at times.

Huh ? AFAIK, the hardware GUID is only available to evenbalance, and isn't connected to the 'normal' GUID, which is as easy to change as ever. If you have a source that contradicts this, I'd love to see it.

And the rules certainly aren't explicit that they are requied for ladders. The season 5 announcement says

GUIDs are required for Enemy Territory League play. Team Members are required to have their current GUIDs entered prior to playing in a match.

As far as I can tell, the ladder rules do not mention GUIDs at all. If they are required for ladders, this should be made explicit.
GUID's will be required for all ladders shortly.
