Bandwidth throttle thingy

Ok i got a prob. Whenever someone else is downloading stuff in my house on other comps...it gives me lag spikes sometimes. I need a little app that starts up when windows starts and caps the max bandwidth usage so I dont lag when they click a link. Im on DSL btw and this only happens when other peeps are using the i-net and stuff...so its not my isp. So my question is...

Anyone know of a freeware proggy that caps upload and dl speeds on the comp which it is running?

p.s. I can install it and the person wont care if i cap their speed, so it doesnt have to be a hidden thing while running.
oh maybe this is built into windows and i just dont know about it. Lemme know if thats the case.
vgrd :P

Well, I don't know of any way to accomplish what you want with Windows, but if you had a Linux router you could probably use the iproute2 tools and do some traffic shaping.
Solution: Slap other users into a brutal submission, so they don't use the internet.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
"Good."
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
"Can you hear me now?"
"FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SHUT YOUR MOUTH!"
"Good."

word

If that doesn't work try this:

http://www.shunra.com/nimbus.htm

Its a throttler designed to allow testing under diff bandwidths. Not exactly a custom fit for your designation but it should do the trick.

I still like hitting other peeps in your house with a big stick, though. But maybe that's just me...
Get yourself an old PC with a couple of nics and Linux. I run Redhat 7.2 on a P5 166 with 100MB nics on DSL and it works great.

IPROUTE and IPTABLES are a bitch to figure out, so you want to get something to make it easy. Shorewall http://www.shorewall.net is a good tool for that. I don't know where it stands on traffic shaping, but they were addressing it.

This box will now be your firewall/traffic controller. To make life a little easier on the other web browsers load up the caching name server on the firewall. http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/DNS-HOWTO-3.html

The best part about a system like this is the price. I had mine setup for $45. I got most everything from surplus equipment that my work was throwing away.

Good Luck

I'll try that Nimbus proggy and see if i cant get that to work.
as lw said, black and white disk skin plz, thx!
If you have Windows XP Pro on the offending computers you can do it.

There is a setting for reserving bandwidth there.
nm this Nimbus thingy owns!

The disc skin is in the T2 screenshots thread on the 4th page :>
