Gray Screen (OpenGL loading error)

Was wondering if anyone ever figured out how to fix this? I've had it ever since T2 came out. I've basically figured out I can log out and log back in to fix it temperarily but after a while of computer use it will gray screen again and I have to relog to fix.

I initially thought it was related to my openGL settings somehow so I reinstalled T2 fresh without copying any files over except for scripts and textures and manually redid all of my internal settings (keys, loadouts etc.) No luck.

I have come across a few redundant scripts and textures that I'm gonna try and clean out in the next week (again), but any advice or solutions other than what I've already posted would be much appreciated.

Just FYI, it will never gray screen in windowed mode. Only in full screen mode. Runs flawlessly in windowed mode (other than the fact I can't see shit and feel like I'm playing in a fish bowl).

I have this problem sometimes too. Never found out what causes it. A fresh install seems to help me for a while, it only seems to do it on older installs of t2.

IDK, sure is annoying though...
I know that when I would turn on AF or FSAA and then load up Tribes 2, it would do the same thing to me. /shrug

Reboot or Log Off and back on. It has happened to me and a lot of my friends...after a while it just stops happening. After a fresh install, no-go. It's a Windows Xp/OpenGL conflict or something. I think I've just finished my period of 3-4 weeks of gray screen. I guess just wait it out.
I have a very similar rig to your LA, and I have never experienced this. If you go grey, have you tried alt-tabbing? Sometimes when I change between apps it gets a little hung up, but usually snaps itself out of it.

The other suggestion would be to hit the windows key and m to minimize all windows then click on the T2.......

OMFG, you're not allowed to list off your specificiations... you're SUPPOSED to leave us waiting and make us have to guess ir or ask you.

Geez LA, have you learned nothing from other people's tech help threads ;p

This same thing happens on Win2k machines, I get it once a day almost.
reformat is only fix for xp as far as i know

for win98x there are simpler solutions that i dont remember right now

search opengl forums and look for threads that say something along the lines of 'unable to load opengl subsystems' - there are/were tons of them
I've reformatted and fresh installed, switched mobo's (went from old 133 mobo to current NForce2 mobo), and tried different graphics cards with no luck. Mine however doesn't go away after 3-4 weeks and although I'd very much like to alt-tab out and try again, it UE's about 1-2 seconds after the Gray Screen.

I get the gray screen from an install of the "re-released" tribes2 just the same as I do from a fresh install and update from the original disk. I'll try messing around with the FSAA and AF but I know for a fact I don't have them turned on now... but who knows. I'm at a loss ... tried everything.
