T2 windowed

For some reason T2 won't let me have a resolution of over 960x600 if the game is not in full screen mode. The option is not in the drop down box, and if I change clientprefs.cs to more than 960x600, T2 defaults to 960x600 and over writes my celintprefs.cs.

Is there anyway around this?
play in full screen mode ?

~hacker~
you guys aren't helpful :<
Check your ClientPrefs.cs and see if
$pref::Video::safeModeOn = 0;
If it's 1 then something is going wrong in the profileSystem portion of startup. You can try to change it to 0 manually and saving your ClientPrefs.cs, but chances are the next time you start the game it will just revert to 1.

Also, you can't just set a resolution in windowed mode arbitrarily and expect it to work. A resolution must match an entry returned by getResolutionList(%device), otherwise it goes into "safemode" of 960x600, or whatever it is you're seeing (I believe it should be 800x600).
echo(getResolutionList("OpenGL"));
in the console will show you all the resolutions supported by your OpenGL (or replace with "D3D") driver, the same list in the dropdown menu of options.

If it isn't one of those, in that particular format ("1024 768 16" for example) it won't work. You might also have the problem if the 16/32 doesn't match the bpp of your desktop.

OK now see this dude is helpful, when I get some time I will check that out. I do remember seeing a safemode set to 1, I need to figure out why it is doing that.
Yeah cus hes a friggin hacker boy

T2 calls a function called "profileSystem" which checks for available video devices (OpenGL/D3D/3DFX) and queries the drivers for supported resolutions. Normally that variable is set to 0 if everything checks out. Maybe you've got a new video card that isn't properly detected, or it's trying to run in the wrong mode (OpenGL is preferred, D3D is fallback, and nobody should still have 3DFX), or there's an issue with your driver reporting the wrong resolutions.

Either way, if you find the variable is set to 1 and changing it to 0 doesn't fix the issue in windowed mode, I can give you a script that might fix it. If the resolution works in fullscreen, other than the variable being on there's nothing that should prevent it from working in windowed mode.

I figured it out.

Using the get resolution list, I knew that there were other valid options, and they worked in fullscreen mode. I tired a trick slush told me to switch to windowed, alt-enter, and checked my console again. I saw a line

"openGLDevice:: Set screen can't switch to resolution larger than desktop in windowed mode"

Very weirdly, my desktop resolution was still 4 or 5 valid options larger than what T2 would allow. I changed it to a much higher resolution and now I can use larger window resolution.
great

now you can be better at potc bc you are AWFUL!
