Arena tourney?

Arena was just as popular as ctf back in the day, and even TR2 had a tourney, so why not? I feel like part of the reason attendance has been declining for our ctf tourneys is that people are getting a case of the "been there done that".

Having an arena tourney, whether as an in-between or instead of ctf tourney #8, would actually be good for the community. It adds some variety to the increasingly bland competition, and could provoke some more oldschoolers into coming back (who then might be enticed to play in another ctf tourney).

I think arena is better suited for a one day type of thing instead of a full blown tournament.

Also should try to have it in a ctf tourney offseason. I assume this would be In base.

Sign ups this season are actually higher than last season, but there is a downward trend. A short arena tourney could be interesting.

I think the death of arena happened when there was only one server left, and happened to be controlled by nazi-stupid admins that also cheated.

I always loved arena. Great times, etc.
But the majority of classic community is like mistcane and hates base and rages at its slowness. And the classic community is the only thing thats left :x

I think if people don't want to play arena then they won't, so I don't really know why anyone would bother trying to shoot down something they're under no obligation to participate in.

We can argue about what killed off arena, but that's neither here nor there. What matters is that, if we want to, we can try having an arena tourney that could potentially help the entire t2 community have another small spark of activity again.

As far as the logistics are concerned, in order to streamline things I think it would be best to simply use the standard rules/maps, partially to prevent any confusion but also to scratch that nostalgic itch for people who remember the good old days. The only real issue is in determining how many teams/captains to have and who those captains will be. Since arena is 6v6 it would be reasonable to assume that you'd need a team size of at least 10-12 people, but in the end there's no way of knowing for sure how many teams to have until we see how many people sign up and how many people step forward willing to captain.

I tried to release a gametype of arena with a few maps I made on my own. The idea was if we can't eliminate hm2 play a gametype that it's effect is minimized.

- Open maps very easy to see your enemy.
- CG and laser banned

I just saw this and my heart skipped a little. I've been playing T:A a little and its ok, but it really makes me miss arena and T:A arena fucking blows.

I hope this happens. I would be dismally bad I'm almost sure but it would be worth trying to get back in shape and/or getting fucked up.
