Just wanted to get some feedback from the community on a new version of Tribes I was thinking of working on. The idea is to enhance the Tribes community while we agonizingly wait for T3. I wanted to create something that was a bit smaller than what the current T2 supports, but still keep the gameplay and theory behind what Tribes is and why it's great.

Here's the basics
- UT2003 engine - complete mod(won't even know it was UT2k3...)
- Classic physics (very close to classic...ie...great speed..etc)
- No vehicles (this might change...gotta learn to implement them into UT2K3)
- Enhanced features - possible 2 new weapons, 1 additional pack, weapons have ALT fire
- Generally smaller maps (UT2K3 can handle large maps...I just haven't really worked on them a ton)
- Game Types supported would be CTF, Arena, Duel, Rabbit(LakRabbit style), Siege(not sure about this...hopefully).

Why using UT2K3? It's the latest engine that fully supports BSP terrain that I know of...and the graphics are superb. I think this is probably the only engine I know that I would try to attempt a mod on.

My main question is this...If someone created this mod...would you play it? Would you purchase UT2K3 to play it?

I just don't want to play T2 until T3 comes out(say...2005 probably...maybe 2k6...:P)...regular UT2K3 isn't the funnest(graphics are nice though)...and I just can't really stand the thought of paying money for a game like Planetside...yuck.

Anyone think this would be a good total conversion for UT2K3?

If it was good, i'd consider it.
Put countless hours of work into it, and we'll decide in 10 minutes if it's worth it.

I expect nothing less from this community
Sounds like a great idea to me. As long as I have my jump jets I'll give it a whirl
do it and i'm in

you can't let those UT2K3 bitches in though, this is our treat!

I'm on a UT2k3 dev team, was doing something like that, but a little more tac-ops thrown in, so, yea, Halo meets T2 lol

edit: but imho, i don't think it would be a good idea unless you're up for a BIG challenge, and have A LOT of free time, because, if there is one bug, knowing our 'ing community, you'd be dead

skins1 skins2
That would be awesome if someone would do it, i'd play.
I'd play if I got positive reviews, because Im really poor and can't afford UT2K3

Anybody got any *achem*warez*achem*

won't sierra say something about this. and also, plus this is somewhat... i don't want to sound rude but really stupid because unless you have 100 people doing this, it will take a long time to actually accomplish something like this...making it bug free, making it CHEAT PROOF (HAHAHAA) and what not. Though I would play it, i don't think its worth the time and effort. though if you DO start this

Spoken with Sierra already, legally they can't do anything if I release it 100% free...

Technically...all it does is hype up their game and solidify their brand...they probably wouldn't do anything even if they could.

100 ppl...a year......I've done Development before, and while I would hate to undertake this all on my own(hopefully I can get some dev guys to help)...I don't think it would take an extraordinary amount of time...I already have a pseudo-schedule for work...and it would be hard...but not impossible.

The game would be as cheat proof as UT2K3...I don't think I could actually make it any MORE cheat proof. Not sure if I would try to implement a Team management system(like the browser)...probably not...

why fix it, if it ain't broke?

t2 is doing better than it has in a long time. there is competition in the main ladder (classic). there is drama in the main ladder. there are around 50 active competative teams on the main ladder. the game is relatively stable, easily stable enough to play consistently without problems. there is drama in the top 10. the top two teams are actually beating each other, AND talking shit about it!

it doesn't get much better than this for a community who has been to hell and back.

i think t2 is doing fine, and will serve us well until the release of "tribes next".

why try to split the community when it's finally comming together again?

i wouldn't play your game.

my only concern is that it will further divite an already small community.
