these seasonal tournaments should have a mandatory rule that they be played on dallas servers. i currently ping 130 to all four tourney servers. who gives a shit if the majority of you live on the east coast, it's not like you can hit anything to begin with. pinging better to goon haven than competition servers is a joke.

I live North-West and I think I ping pretty much the same to Chicago/Dallas servers.
If Nevares actually showed up for his team last season, he'd have an inkling as to why a choice was made to use Chicago servers instead of Dallas ones.
regardless of anything, central dallas servers have always been 10x better than chicago for west players. anything under 100 ping is perfectly playable, but once it starts to get over 100-110 it's pretty ridiculous to say it's an even playing field.
I for one won't be playing in another tourney if the people with 50-60 ping can't compromise a little and adjust to 80-90. try playing with 130 ping in your next match, it's like having constant packet loss.

I get better pings to Chicago than Texas and I live out west.
As someone that had the misfortune of being on 2 of 3 of nev's tourney teams, I can say that I don't think it matters since he typically only shows for half of the first scrim.
Do not sign up if you can't make at least ~3/4 of your matches (these are played weekly, on Sundays). If you sign up and vanish, I will seriously start handing out bans, or at the very least bar you from signing up for future leagues.
because of the flat US map projections I don't think you north-westerns realize how far you are from chicago. It's possible tho your ISP routing randomly makes chicago favorable. Post edited by Darkstrand at 11/6/2011 8:47:21 PM
Here's my herp derp elementary mathematics approach to this problem.
I'm using a rudimentary number graph but fucking trust me those lines are equidistant and they prove the point, using guesstimating and rudimentary number math. Absolute West Coast is 0. Absolute East Coast 10. The Guestimated Center of Population for West Coast ~ 0.5, Center of Population for East Coast is ~ 8.9. Find the average (or center) between those two, its 4.2. Which one is closer to 4.2, Dallas or Chicago?
You may also ask yourself, which is greater- the difference between lengths of lines A and B, or the difference between lengths of lines C and D?
if you don't understand this, your stupid. even with rough guestimating it's not hard to see at all! Post edited by Rooster128 at 11/7/2011 12:54:44 AM
If you want to go further and prove my point, take the positon ofvery city from cities below 4.2 in that chart and find average of those numbers to get the average place in chart. Do the same for the East Coast, use numbers to make your own mathematical judgments.
I'm kind of surprised that Chicago isn't better for west coast folks since pings are determined mostly by how many hops it takes to get somewhere, and I would think there'd be more direct routing to someplace like Chicago as opposed to someplace in the state that produced George Walker Bush and HautSoss.
Maybe, when we're still playing T2 in 20 years, we will have super-efficient alien technology and can approach the theoretical limit of sub-17 ping for everyone. If I run for president I will make that a priority.

I had thought chicago always had the better backbones than dallas did, like when branzone first went live. maybe things changed tho
