To answer your question as succinctly as possible: hexy got mad about the mossy oak situation, said he would smurf mistcane in, then smurfed mistcane in without realizing that mistcane isn't bright enough to use a proxy without fucking it up. Anyways, if you don't believe me, go ask him about the post he made in the forums after I banned him, reveling in the glory that is "hexycane".

I do think Celios should have been more proactive and just removed all the obvious smurfs before the draft.
I'm not allowed to ban people without knowing conclusively that they are a smurf, and whose. Besides, it's not a smart road to go down. Case in point, after Sunday's match, a lot of people on Fling's team apparently think HappyPuppy is a smurf of Haut. The evidence? They live in the same state and both are good. Where do you draw the line?

Ya right. Like the admins would actually do that?
You're absolutely right: I don't typically post about investigations or bans on the forums. But this is hardly out of apathy; all of that information is written up extensively and posted, just on the admin forums rather than here.
The reason that I rarely post it publicly is pretty simple, which is that nothing good ever comes of it. A lot of what people tell me is shared in confidence, and openly posting stuff like IPs, geographical information, demos and so forth is not always appropriate. This leaves me in a situation where, if I were to start putting things up for trial in the court of public opinion, I would often be faced with one of two scenarios:
1) Offering full disclosure, which screws over anyone who shared something with me in confidence.
2) Offering partial disclosure, which forces me to either omit some of the evidence, or ask you to take my word for it that "evidence of such and such a nature was submitted and judged to be compelling".
In short, informing the public at large of every aspect of an investigation or ban is self-defeating, and giving them an incomplete picture is only convincing if they trust you to begin with.
The only thing I would add to this is that both you and vax know from personal experience that, when people ask me in irc, I do often explain as best I can what is going on with an investigation or a ban. The fact that you two are now posturing on the forums, pretending otherwise, is disingenuous at best.

Its time for celios to be knocked off his lil horse and time for a change of power.
I can't remember the last time I've defended myself in public, so perhaps you'll indulge me a little.
Let me start by saying that I have sunken more time over the years into adminning TWL than a lot of people have put into their average job. It would be no exaggeration to say that I have literally spent thousands of hours dealing with the most mundane gruntwork imaginable; I've spent so much time tracing IPs that I could probably tell you offhand where half the community lives; I've put together map packs, coded dozens of tools to help make up for things that are broken or missing on TWL (voting systems, randomizers, draft scripts, tools that let me trace IP ranges to TWL accounts, etc.); I've written numerous boring rulesets, watched more demos than probably half the community put together; and this isn't even getting into the endless drama and complaining I have to patiently wade through on a weekly, if not daily, basis. Do you know how much time I have to spend, on average, explaining and arguing about the slightest cheating accusation, dispute or ban on irc? If I get away with spending no more than 5-10 hours each, then things have been easy. Do you think that is fun?
Now, I don't say this because I expect anyone to start gushing gratitude at me. If I didn't want to spend my time that way, I would have walked away a long fucking time ago (and, if you hadn't noticed, every other admin always has). It's a thankless job. If you do things right, 98% of the community will never even notice, and if you do things wrong (and, more often than not, even if you don't) a lot of people will shit on you as the worst thing to have ever happened to the game. So no, while it genuinely means a lot to me when people have something nice to say ( JT), I certainly don't ride in here on a "lil horse" every day looking for an ego boost.
To wrap up this little exercise in self-indulgence, I will tell you why I do bother: nothing has ever lived up to Tribes, and I think it would be a shame to watch that die to a self-destructive community, which prizes people who are self-centered, Machiavellian and nepotistic in the extreme (just so long as they are part of the clique). Just look at what lengths certain people will go to to win a (deliberately) meaningless, prizeless draft tournament.
Finally, before I am accused of being overly self-righteous here, let me just leave you with two tidbits. First, I have never censored any criticism directed at me or how I handle things. Most of you probably don't even remember the days when people
got permabanned for talking shit to admins in here. And yes, I've read pretty much every proj post, and no, it's not a coincidence that thread's like mistcane's were left
mysteriously unlocked when I banned him. Second, I have been accused of being biased for/against pretty much every higher tier player left in T2. After all of these years, I don't think anyone can make a clear cut or convincing case for "what side I am on". I am apparently butt buddies with everyone in T2, yet most of them hate me. I think that's a pretty decent track record, all things considered.

All we can do is pray that when the new game comes out we get a better admin that can keep us lil guys in the loop of what think are major issues.
On that note, I am rapidly approaching a point in my life where I probably won't be able to contribute the amount of time that I have in the past. In all likelihood, I will soon pull back from my current responsibilities considerably. I guess it's nice to know that that will make at least one person happy?
