comp mod blah blah

ok, i know that for those of you who have been wanting the speed again, basically more like T1 plays, are going crazy over comp mod

as do i realize that allot of work and effort have been put into the development

with that aside, i am getting so tired of all the talk of it, every conversation centers around it

personally, until the game "officially" comes out, which is supposed to be in late september, i'm not gonna play it

ya i am "missing out" on all the skiing mine discing fun, but for right now the big base++ ladder is up, and until it is actually released, focus should be on that ladder (for ctf that is)

anyway, i have no idea what the point of this was, i guess i was satisfied the way it was (with exception of the rapid fire missle cheat as of late), and is

just my .02
You are missing out, and falling behind
I think the point of it is to keep the game fresh. There ARE a few good reasons to play on it now though. The biggest one is that the maps are new and interesting. Close behind is the fact that most of the people (exluding myself anyway = '() that play on it are very skilled players... the pick ups and late night games can be extremely enjoyable. Where as a base++ or base pub can just get annoying.
Oh.. and do yourself a favor and not read past the first few posts. I foresee this post turning into flames = /
i LOVE base++ and didnt compete in t1.

but compmod hands down BLOWS AWAY base++ worse tren base++ blew away base.

It requires so much more skill to be good at it. It will seperate out the noobs quite nicely.

Bad teams will be worse and good teams will be better as it should be. Instead of bad teams being able to compete with good teams cause base++ is slow.

Mine discing is actually a good addition and gives the D some power agains all the HO. I cant think of anything wrong with it excpet for the BIG ASS mortar radius WAY too big
listen, if u want speed, then whynot speed up ++ a lil, compmod doesnt take more skill, its just takes less offense...

theres NO manuvering(sp), all it is, is a slap in the face to the T2 creators... T2 isnt T1, so why try to make it like T1...

T1 has shitty and outdated physics....and btw, im no noob, so saying that it will "sort out the noobs" is BS...bc i plain dont like flying straight fast...and no other direction
I like comp mod, but i prefer base++.

I love tribes so much that I will move to where the competition is.
psycore moves to wherever there are more cacks to suxor..
ill stick with b++ so u can get a headstart on me before i pwn you all when i move to compmod

I totally disagree that compmod requires no skill.

To get really fast you need skill. I saw it with my own eyes at the lan.
Could you tell my what servers are currently hosting compmod. And do I have to install anything besides maps. THank You

try the threads started by z0dd. they have all the info you need. like this one:

http://teamwarfare.com/forums/showthread.asp?forumid=4&threadid=13521

though it doesn't mention you need the beta patch, which you do.

I'm currently not leaning either way. Some of the new maps are sweet (Hillside fucking owns), but some of the old favs (like Damnation) might be a bit too small for the new physics. We'll have to wait and see, it'd be nice if the PU games played some of the "classic" T2 maps to see how they play with a semi-coordinated team.

yup.

*sarcasm* That really sounds like fun. */sarcasm* I hope you aren't saying that comp mod is better because you will have fewer tougher matches. Is a zero loss record over lesser teams more important than a 50% win loss ratio of good matches?

I'm on one of those "worse teams" and I have to say that a bigger beat down really sounds like what we need to keep guys playing!

Not a dig on you personally, but it does seem to sound like the community want's to weed out "noobs" with mods like this.

All that being said, I can't wait to play a few new maps myself. I'm basically a better noob, and I'm already bored of playing with the same old maps.

I think Ghetto is the word.

comp mod owns base++. i almost dont want to play base++ anymore.

CompMod will be nice. People will move to CompMod because the competition will move there. But let's drop the "It takes more skill!" bullshit rhetoric. It doesn't.

And please, please, please take out the minedisk. Now every map is a fucking random minefield. I can't wait to see a big game decided because someone missed a shot.

wtf?!

I died on a mine in the middle of nowhere while almost capping on Boss in the T2 Semifinal at UVA4
Mines being everyone is more fun.. adds a random element to the game. =)
a random dumb element

for something that could have been done equally as well by actually allowing people to carry grenades without worrying about getting missiled constantly, md'ing leaves something to be desired, imo.

i like the fact that comp mod rewards good routes. i dislike the fact that tribes 2 may well degrade back into a HO vs LD fest with no specialization of roles beyond those 2.

We just want the game to be more about skill, so that the teams that are really good at the game can show it.
the random mine fields will go away with time.. ..somewhat...
And who ever says it doesnt require skill...you are obviously mistaken. I love b++....but lets face it, its easy. You miss your route, or dont have one?--no problem, just stand behind a hill next to the flag and make a little walking grab and get going fast after one ski.
In comp mod, you need routes, for HO and Capper. You can defently tell the difference between an ok capper and a Good capper...and an ok HO and a Good HO. Chasing is going to take a lot more skill now too, against the better cappers at least. And MF is going to be one of the hardest positions to play, with HO and Cappers flying by you. Only positions that will really stay the same are like turreter and HD.

I do think this is a bad time for it though...the base++ ladder is doing really well right now...and I dont see all the teams wanting to switch right over to comp mod.
um, last i checked, comp mod is the next version of b++, so it seems the debate between the 2 will be moot.

they are pretty different though, what would you do, just all of a sudden say, "ok, base++ players have to switch to comp mod starting tomorrow"?
Or, you're just gonna start a new ladder, and the same thing that happened to the base to base++ will happen here...only this time there are actually good teams and good compititon in the b++ ladder
there are already plenty of random mines lying around cuz there are plenty of faggot elfers
elf should lock onto mines at all =/

i dont think there should be any ladders other than the compmod ladder.

it is after all designed for competition no? Base = for newbloods.

as for the skill argument, you can move side to side in the air alot easier now than a few versions ago. Its not hard, your lateral crutch that you got used to in the soupy T2 isnt there so much anymore. Now you have to kill before you get killed. All good IMO.

T2 wont lose any role specialization. Shrikes and bombers still have their uses, as well as all the other vehicles. I think youre jumping to conclusions without all the facts and or experience.

if you believe the bolded message, you're retarted, now, any HO, Capper, whatever can ski/run. the only people that need more skill are the LD.
btw, you fuck up a HO route, DJ and you're fine =p
There are too many good things about Comp Mod to keep it from not becoming the new standard in T2 play. To me the conversion from Base to Base ++ is a harder transition. Going from Base++ to Comp Mod shouldn't be too hard.
Does anyone have a demo or two of a skilled team getting beat by an unskilled team because of how base or base++ works? I'd like to see how the great players are made average because of the game.

Am I mistakenly mixing teamwork in with what is considered a great player?

true anyone can ski....but the talented will be fucking zooming past them.
sorry there was a definate difference @ uva between cappers who knew routes (and were good skiiers) and ones who didnt

the former were actually hard to catch up w/

The point of playing comp mod is simply to test it. That is why there are a few servers up. If no one played it, then it would be pretty hard to get data back on what should be changed...

Sure there is B++ out there now, but comp mod is the future of T2. If we dont pay close attention to it now, then why bother at all.
of course it would be terrible of me to imply that the "better" teams get sneak previews of CM, and i am not talking as of late, but more in past months

everyone knows the better teams always have the "hookup", kinda like insider trading

it just kinda reminds me of MLB, the good teams always have an edge, in this case it's not money, it's not the location, but who you know

now, is it to be expected that the better teams are always gonna get sneak previews and such, and maybe they deserve it, but it just kinda runs me the wrong way, that teams with just as much talent can't come close to competing with teams that have better resources

where does this leave us? no where...for sure though, and what excites most of you, is the fact that some of the better teams are going to make an appearance on the ladder again (5150, vanguard, IE), i personally, and no offense to the really "leat tribes", find the ladder more fun and competitive with teams that are more fairly matched, which in my opinion CM is going to completely throw out

then again, maybe i'm just a sore loser and mad that i can't get the chance to play with a real l33t team, either way, i still all my friends over at PEN, cause sometimes winning isn't everything (or do i just say that to save face?)
