I hope somebody here knows my problem. In C&C Generals, whenever I'm in the menu, or playing the game, about every 30 to 50 seconds the game will pause for about 5 seconds. It doesn't matter if i'm just watching the menu, playing skermish, or online. I have a great connection(DSL), and my system can run the game really fast when it's not pausing, but I can't figure this one out. In the Bios, I don't have thermal throttling on, or anything that would limit my hardware performance(I'm a hardcore overclocker), so I don't know what's going on. Also, my other games that I play work just fine.
I have a AMD xp 2400 o/c (actual speed is running at 2160mhz w/380mhz fsb synchronous with the ram which is pc3200). I am using an Abit NF7-S Nforce2 motherboard, and I got a soundblaster audigy x-gamer. For video I have a Geforce 3(yes, I need to get a better one) o/c to 250/560mhz w/huge heatsink....(he, last time I checked mad onion, this was the highest speed i've seen for this card. I guess i got a lucky chip). I'm using the SerialATA150 port to connect (using converter) to my ATA133 80gb w/8m Maxtor drive. Of course the other stuff like 52x cdrom and zipdrive. My hardware is all in working order and performs well on benchmarks too. I have the latest drivers for all my hardware, although I haven't flashed the mobo bios...seems to risky and Abit said there update only added information display stuff.
I'm kinda curios if it's something to do with some sort of hardware detection like firewire that, every certain amount of time it searches for something and pauses the game...except that it only does it for generals.
Any help anyone could give me would be appreciated, since I work so hard to get my system at peek performance, and having people tell you that your lagging online is really dishartening.
